256 litograph plates (40 x 29 cm) in 5 bound volumes.
Famous hardcover design by Paul Berthon : female figures and flower patterns,
embossed stamps and golden touch up.
A subsciption series to collectors, directed by the famous illustrator Jules
CHERET, and pubished by CHAIX litographic workshop..
Every month from December 1895 through November 1900, subscribers received
4 plates of the best works of the major French and foreign masters of the time,
plus 16 unique original litographs offered as bonus plates.
These 256 plates (240 + 16) are numbered 1 to 240 and stamped with the printers
name CHAIX .
Among the artists represented in the series, some were the French masters Pierre
Bonnard, Jules Chéret, Eugène Grasset, Alphonse Mucha, Henri de ToulouseLautrec, there was the Swiss artist Théophile-Alexandre Steinlein ... and others
were the Anglo-saxons, Will Bradley, Edward Penfield, The Berggarstaffs, etc.
