We therefore serve them by the glass, by the Carafe or by the Bottle. Please feel free to ask for more information about them. GLASS 100ml CARAFE 375ml BOTTLE 750ml CHAMPAGNE Gosset, Brut Excellence NV £11.00 £60.00 The brilliant body is golden yellow in colour. The bubbles are fine, while the foam is discreet yet lingering. The nose, very open and expressive, delivers aromas of fruit and butter. It also gives off the fragrance of pear, pineapple, mango, white flowers (honeysukle, jasmine) and caramel. The entry onto the palate is lively, fresh and in total harmony. The Brut Excellence is a blend of about 20 Grand Cru and Premier Cru vineyards from the oldest winery of Champagne. WHITE WINE VdP des Coteaux de L’Ardèche Chardonnay £5.00 £13.00 £25.00 Louis Latour, France 2014 A lightly oaked Chardonnay produced in the Ardeche region in the South of France, this wine is a little more full bodied than average and very Burgundian in style, with a gentle creamy flavour from the oak sitting alongside classic Chardonnay flavours of green apple and citrus. Sauvignon Blanc £6.00 £16.00 £30.00 Martin Meinert La Barry, Elgin, South Africa 2014 Showing why this is the most popular wine style in the world at the moment, this South African Sauvignon displays the tropical character typical of the region’s style but with a herbaceousness more commonly associated with the Old World examples. Complex and aromatic this is a great food wine. Wachau Grüner Veltliner £7.00 Rainer Weiss 2015 £17.00 £32.00 A very aromatic wine with intense notes of citrus, grapefruit, pineapple and spice. Nicely refreshing and rich with a long finish. Incredible with a white fish and a creamy sauce or even on itself as an aperitif! 2 HOUSE WINES (continued) RED WINE Haut-Médoc GLASS CARAFE BOTTLE 125ml 375ml 750ml £7.00 £20.00 £38.00 Château Mille-Roses, France 2006 A deep and intense colour. Even for a wine of this age, it shows youthful clues: strawberry jam and freshly squeezed blackcurrant notes, a firm structure with a balanced acidity which would allow this wine to age even more! A must try on our Chef’s long-matured beef and duck! Pinot Noir £8.00 £21.00 £40.00 Seresin, Leah, New Zealand, 2012 A soft and juicy oaky Pinot Noir from Marlborough region, some smoky notes with a spicy edge. The winery is brand new and state-of-the-art equipped. This Pinot Noir is able to accompany either meat or fish thanks to his freshness and light body! Chianti Classico £8.00 £21.00 £40.00 Montesecondo, Italy 2013 This Chianti is a very approachable, full of characters and finess. It offers an abundance of soft red fruits on the nose, a hint of truffled earthiness and a lovely touch of sweet spices from the oak-ageing on the palate. DESSERT WINE 75ml IGP Comté Tolosan Petit Manseng Doux £7.00 Comte Philippe de Nazelle, Cabidos, France 2011 An amazing sweet white wine entirely made of raisined –on-the-stem Petit Manseng. Very enjoyable to drink with its freshness, strong quince and tropical fruits notes. We don’t put any non-Scottish fruits on your plates, get it in your glass ! FORTIFIED WINE Maury Grenat £5.00 Domaine Lafage, France 2013 A sweet red from a little-known region in the South of France; this is an interesting alternative to Port. Blueberry and ripe red-fruit flavours make it very drinkable with chocolate or cheese, but without Port’s weight. Port Late Bottled Vintage £5.00 Fonseca, Portugal 2009 A classic LBV (sometimes known as ‘Ruby’ port), this is a ripe and dense Port with lovely Blackcurrant and Raisin flavours. Perfectly suited to a range of cheeses or enjoyed on its’ own after dinner. 3 THE PERSONAL WINE SELECTION Below the team have listed their own personal favourites which might offer you a starting place from which to explore the list Beppo Owner Value for money: VdP des Coteaux de L’Ardèche Chardonnay, Louis Latour 2014 £25.00 A wonderful full-bodied wine which exudes balance far greater than its price suggests, and could easily fool you into thinking it’s a White Burgundy. Personal favourite: Toro, Numanthia-Thermes Winery, Numanthia 2011 £90.00 Going beyond this wine's meatiness and tannic force, this vintage of Thermes offers enough acidity to balance the powerful ripeness of the fruit and give it vigour. it's a wine to drink with something equally powerful. Try Something Different: Ridge Estates, Geyserville, Dry Creek Valley 2013 £90.00 A nice blend of Zinfandel, Petite Sirah and Carignane from Sonoma, a cool valley bathed by fresh ocean winds of Pacific Ocean. Ideal climate for having both fine fruitiness and acidity, so a wellbalanced red wine on blackcherry and strawberry notes paired with complex tastes of raspberry and silky tannins. Dream Wine: Alsace Riesling Clos St. Hune, MasonTrimbach 1998 £350.00 I first visited Alsace back in 2003 and was fortunate enough to spend the day as the guest of the Trimbach Family. It was a tough day’s work but extremely rewarding with the opportunity to mix and match wines with the wonderful food from the region. However, it was also deadly, as I was introduced to ‘Clos Sainte Hune’ and since then no other Riesling I have tasted has compared with the fine wine from this tiny vineyard. ‘Clos Sainte Hune’ provides the world with, in my opinion, the best dry Riesling and a benchmark to be challenged. Edouard Food & Beverage Manager Value For Money: Weinland Grüner Veltliner & Welshriesling Gut Oggau, Theodora 2015£44.00 A super classic Austrian Grüner made by a very well regarded winemaker. This wine brings elegance, intensity and complexity but remains fresh with balance of flavours from lemon zest to apple and white pepper. Refreshing acidity will also help to complement a great number of dishes on the menu.. Try Something Different: Vin de France Comte Abbatucci, Cuvee Fautine Blanc 2013 £55.00 A classic Vermentino from the South of Corsica. An elegant wine that opens with some citruss, stone fruits, and minerals along with fresh flowers and a slight hint of spiciness. On the palat, the fruits burst with soft texture and an incredible length. Personal Favourite: Ruinart, Brut, Blanc de Blancs NV £100.00 Made in the pure Ruinart tradition exclusively from the Chardonnay grape, Ruinart Blanc de Blancs reflects perfect harmony. Very beautiful pale golden yellow colour, great luminosity and striking brilliance. A profuse mousse with a sustained ring of beads. An intense first nose with notes of fresh citrus fruit, mainly lime and a very fine flowery second nose. Dream wine: Bolgheri Sassicaia Tenuta San Guido, Sassicaia 2011 £275.00 Intense, concentrated and deep ruby-coloured, this wine offers elegant, complex aromas of red fruits. In the mouth it is rich and dense, yet harmonious, with sweet, balanced tannins. The wine has a long finish with a depth and structure that ensure its extraordinary longevity. 4 THE PERSONAL WINE SELECTION Gordon General Manager White Anjou Blanc Sec Clos de l’Elu, Bastinage 2014 £40 This monovarietal wine is very fruity and honeyed. This wine native of the Loire Valley in France is complex, a brilliant straw-colored colour, an aromatic complicity such as a cooked red apple, white flowers, honey or cinnamon. This attractive fat balances have long acidity. This wine will accompany with marvel asparaguses, white meats as well as cheeses refined. Weinland Grüner Veltliner & Welshriesling Gut Oggau, Theodora 2015 £44 You are in for a good and usual surprise! An unconventionnal blend of Grüner Veltliner and Welshriesling produced by a fully certified Biodynamic winemaker. Could go on a whole meal even with pork and game terrines, amazing with the scallops! Vin de France Domaine Comte Abbatucci, Cuvée Faustine Vieilles Vignes 2014 £55 Have you ever had a Corsican wine? No? And it is totally normal as these wines are nearly exclusively locally consumed, we are very lucky to have it on our wine list. Very elegant, white blossom notes with a good balance between richness and freshness. Made by one the descendents of Napoleon!!! Trebbiano d’Abruzzo Emidio Pepe 2013 £75 It is an elegant and refined wine with great aging potential. Its beautiful acidity together with the aromatic balance make of it a fine wine with complexity at the same time. The proximity to the Gran Sasso mountain guarantee us big differences of temperature between night and day, this encourages the development of the flavors, while the proximity to the Adriatic Sea, whit its sea breezes gives us an important mineral tone and a beautiful sapidity to our Trebbiano. Red Rioja Bodegas Moraza 2014 £28 A very easy drinking wine, gourmand, a “vin de soif” as French say, well executed, partial carbonic maceration and fermentation in concrete vats, it delivers a great freshness and delicate profile while having elegant concentration, well balanced, fruit driven with smooth tannins – a great value for money Vin de France Domaine Henri Milan, Le Vallon 2009 £35 Henri Milan is one of the greatest winemaker, located in Provence (South of France). The nice blend of Grenache and Syrah gives a warm flavour of cherry, raspberry and blackcurrant. Great match with venison and pigeon ! Toscana Rosso Montesecondo, Tin 2013 £60 The TIN is fermented and matured in Amphorae, not particularly common in Chianti. Amphorae always make very elegant and fresh wines that seem to be full of energy and life. You truly taste biodynamic forces at play and this lifeforce in the wine gives it fantastic ageing potential. If it makes it that far, they only make a few thousand bottles! For a truly natural but also unique expression of Tuscan Sangiovese, I highly recommend Tin! Châteauneuf-du-Pape Domaine de Villeneuve, Vieilles Vignes 2012 £75 Juicy, bright and vibrant, with plenty of plum, blackberry, ground herbs and violets. It is mediumbodied, very well-textured and nicely balanced. This biodynamically farmed estate covers just over 20 acres, located exclusively in the lieu-dit of Palestor, which is in the northern part of the appellation. they employed Rhone superstar oenologist “Philippe Cambie.” 5 CORAVIN (Premium Wines by the Glass) We are excited to be using a wine-service device developed in America called a ‘Coravin’. Invented by Businessman and Wine Enthusiast Greg Lambrecht after his wife became pregnant, it was designed as a solution to the problem of wanting to drink quality wine in the evening without having to polish off the entire bottle! After 23 prototypes he created a device portable and durable enough to be used at home as well as professionally. Utilising a medical needle and a small canister of flavourless/odourless/ chemically unreactive ‘Argon’ gas it is possible to remove a desired quantity of wine from a bottle without even pulling the cork. When the extraction needle is removed from the bottle, the cork naturally closes itself and the wine can be left to carry on ageing as if it had never been opened! The device has undergone testing by many major wine critics and magazines and so far is performing as it should. Mr. Lambrecht has even been drinking some of his own bottles which were first ‘accessed’ (not opened!) seven years ago, and according to wine critic Robert Parker they are as fresh as if they had never been touched. We are pleased to be able to use the device to provide a small selection of premium wines at the highest possible quality by the glass. We feel that these wines are particularly well suited to some of our seasonal ingredients, but for more information please don’t hesitate to ask. White Wines Condrieu, Maison Vidal-Fleury 2012 £13.00/125ml Condrieu is a tiny Northern Rhône appellation. Maybe one of the best expression of the Viognier from France with Château-Grillet. A well-rounded wine, very rich on peach and violet notes, a nice saltiness and a really enjoyable finish on white blossoms. A great wine with white meats, white fishes and crustaceans! Meursault 1er Cru Charmes, Domaine Michelot 2011 £22.00/125ml The climate ‘Charmes’ is found on the border between Puligny-Montrachet and Meursault. The limestone and clay soils give a rare finesse and elegance, the red volcanic rocks add richness and minerality but the wine remains well-balanced and fresh. Paired well with crustaceans, poultry, hard cheeses and of course our Chef’s pork belly! Red Wines Toro, Numanthia-Thermes Winery, Numanthia 2011 £15.00/125ml From the still relatively under-explored Toro region in Northern Spain, Numanthia is a world-class wine. Dense, with huge ripeness and well integrated oak character, the weight and quality of tannin make this a powerhouse to rival the best wines of France. Corton Grand Cru, Louis Latour 2008 £22.00/125ml Extraordinary Pinot Noir Grand Cru from Maison Louis Latour. This exclusive wine is only made on great vintages assembling four ‘climats’ from the Grand Cru area. A pale ruby colour with cooked cherries and raspberries notes paired with a nice roundness and structure. A must try on duck, roast beef and soft cheeses! 6 Champagne/Sparklings Non-Vintage 633 Gosset, Brut Excelence 60 599 Taittinger, Brut, Réserve 65 603 Moët & Chandon, Brut Imperial 80 602 Veuve Clicquot, Demi-Sec, White Label 80 601 Veuve Clicquot, Brut, Yellow Label 85 610 Janisson, Brut, Blanc de Blancs 85 607 Franck Pascal, Reliance, Brut Nature 85 604 Francis Boulard, Extra Brut, Blanc de Blancs, Vieilles Vignes 85 605 Ruinart, Brut, Blanc de Blancs 100 612 Krug, Grande Cuvée NV 225 Vintage and Prestige Champagnes 617 Laurent Perrier, Brut, Cuvée Rosé 110 634 Gosset, Grand Rosé, Brut 120 7 Vintage and Prestige Champagnes 614 Taittinger, Brut 2003 90 620 Thienot, Brut 2005 90 609 Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin 2004 100 635 Gosset, Grand Millésime, Brut 2004 120 608 Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin, La Grande Dame 2004 175 606 Taittinger, Comtes de Champagne 2004 250 613 Louis Roederer, Cristal 2006 300 616 Krug 1996 600 Half Bottles – Non-Vintage 630 Veuve Clicquot, Brut, Yellow Label 45 631 Krug, Grande Cuvée NV 110 Sparkling Wines 641 Crémant de Bourgogne Brut 30 Domaine Simonnet-Febvre, France 642 Veneto Glera 16 La Jara, Italy (375 ml) 644 Prosecco Frizzante 26 La Jara, Italy Gastronomic Cider 645 Poiré de Poiriers Anciens Sur Granite Grand Cru 2014 Eric Bordelet 8 45 White Wine France - Burgundy Bourgogne 392 Bourgogne Blanc 45 Domaine Paul Pillot 2013 Auxerrois 410 Chablis 30 Simonnet-Febvre 2014 412 Chablis Grand Cru Les Preuses 90 Domaine Fèvre 2012 Côte de Beaune 397 Saint-Aubin 68 Domaine Larue, Vieilles Vignes 2013 390 Meursault 80 Domaine Michelot 2014 394 Puligny-Montrachet 100 Domaine Jean Chartron 2014 391 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Champgains 90 Domaine Pillot 2009 386 Meursault 1er Cru Charmes 130 Domaine Michelot 2011 387 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 180 Domaine Louis Latour 2008 393 Corton Grand Cru 190 Domaine Chandon des Brailles 2011 9 Côte Chalonnaise 389 Bouzeron 42 Domaine Aubert & Patricia De Villaine 2011 399 Montagny 1er Cru Les Coères 45 Domaine Feuillat-Juillot 2014 398 Rully 1er Cru La Pucelle 80 Emmanuel Giboulot 2013 Mâconnais 382 Saint-Véran 30 Domaine Louis Latour, Les Deux Moulins 2014 384 Saint-Véran 35 Domaine de la Croix Sénaillet 2014 395 Mâcon-Lugny 32 Domaine Louis Latour, Les Genièvres 2014 Pouilly-Fuissé 380 Domaine Dominique Cornin 2014 50 385 Château de Fuissé, Vieilles Vignes 1997 - Magnum 60 396 Pouilly-Vinzelles 64 Domaine de la Soufrandière 2012 France - Alsace 472 Gewurzraminer 45 Domaine Albert Mann 2013 Riesling 471 Domaine Zind-Humbrecht, Les Terres d’Alsace 2013 44 479 Hugel, Hommage à Jean Hugel 1997 - Magnum 175 478 Riesling Grand Cru 350 Trimbach, Clos St. Hune 1998 10 France - Loire Valley 421 Muscadet 28 Domaine de Bellevue, Granit 2015 428 Anjou Blanc Sec 40 Clos de l’Elu, Bastinage 2014 425 Savennières 60 Clos de la Coulee de Serrant, Le Vieux Clos 2013 424 Vouvray 50 Clos de la Meslerie 2013 422 Pouilly-Fumé 40 Domaine Jonathan Didier Pabiot 2014 Sancerre 42 423 Domaine Vincent Gaudry, Le Tournebride 2014 427 Francois Cotat, Cuvée Paul 2007 130 France - Rhône Valley 440 VdP des Coteaux de L’Ardèche Chardonnay 25 453 Côtes Du Rhone 28 Domaine Louis Latour 2014 Domaine des Aphillantes 2015 452 Condrieu 70 450 Saint Joseph 45 Domaine Vidal-Fleury 2012 Andre Perret 2012 451 Chateauneuf du Pape 100 Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe 2014 11 France - South West 465 IGP Comté Tolosan Petit Manseng Sec 38 Comte Philippe de Nazelle 2011 467 Gaillac Sec 35 Domaine Causse Marines, Les Greilles 2014 France - Languedoc-Roussillon 497 Picpoul de Pinet 28 Terre de Roqueloupié 2014 France - Savoie 466 Vin de Savoie Chautagne 44 Jacques Maillet, Autrement 2014 France - Provence & Corsica 460 Côtes de Provence 34 Domaine Rimaurescq 2014 461 Vin de France 55 Domaine Comte Abbatucci, Cuvee Faustine Vieilles Vignes 2014 Germany 481 Riesling ‘Estate’ 25 Dr. Loosen, Mosel, 2014 484 Mosel Riesling Spätlese 60 Willi Schaefer, Graacher Domprobst 2011 482 Pfaltz Riesling Trocken 30 Villa Wolf 2014 Austria 486 Wachau Grüner Veltliner 32 Rainer Weiss 2014 488 Weinland Grüner Veltliner & Welshriesling Gut Oggau, Theodora 2015 12 44 Switzerland 487 Valais Fendant 42 Les Deux Cîmes 2014 Italy 500 Verona Vermentino 30 Tommasi, le Rosse 2015 505 Ciello Cataratto 25 Terre Siciliane 2015 506 Verdicchio di Matelica 30 Colle Stefano 2014 501 Trebbiano d’Abruzzo 75 Emidio Pepe 2013 Spain 507 Penedès 40 Miguel Torres, Fransola 2013 524 Rioja 40 Amaren, Barrel Fermented 2014 523 Ribeiro 30 Ramon do Casar 2013 520 Rías Baixas Albariño 36 Bodegas Terras Gauda 2014 Bulgaria 516 Thracian Valley Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc... use of synthetic chemicals. The idea is that the best possible grapes are used in the manufacturing of the wine. The soil is respected and biodiversity of the environment is encouraged. Biodynamic For a vineyard to be considered biodynamic the vine-grower must follow the organic criteria first voiced in 1924 by Rudolf Steiner. His idea was to apply a holistic approach to the farm wherein every organism contributes and has part to play in the ‘circle of life’. The farm should encourage biodiversity, be self-sustainable and resist monoculture through cultivation of a variety of plants. ‘Natural’ There is no official classification of operating procedures, which makes natural wine hard to define. A natural winemaker once told me: ‘conforming to standards and criteria goes against the principles of natural wine’, but there are unofficial definitions and codes of practice published by various associations such as the Association des Vins Naturels, Vinnatur or Simbiosa. 29 MEET THE SUN HALF-WAY Enjoy your stay at Eriska! 30
