CHILD CARE INFORMATION
Child Care Information (CCI) is a French and English publicly funded information and referral service on early
learning and child care. The purpose of Child Care Information is to provide counselling, guidance and information
on all available child care options in Ottawa. Our staff are available by phone or in person to help parents make
informed child care choices. Comprehensive child care and nursery school directories as well as other helpful
publications are available.
Child Care Information offers a range of services and products free of charge, including:
•
Information, referral and counselling on child care options and issues in Ottawa: offered to clients
on-site and by telephone; includes licensed and unlicensed child care; with counselling services
to meet individualized needs of clients.a Centralized Waiting List for licensed child care centres,
home child care agencies and extended day programs in Ottawa
•
Customized information generated by data collected by Child Care Information: for clients and the
child care community which requires additional information, data and statistics; tailored to meet the
identified information needs; provided in both languages.
•
On-site resource centre: for clients to discuss their needs and be provided with the services of
an Information Counsellor in person; for clients to be provided with written information and resources
related to child care and early learning
•
Community outreach: for clients to directly access our services and resources in person from an
off-site location; for clients to be provided with information and guidance on all child care.
•
Workshops: for parents seeking child care and professionals to better assist their clients, provided
in a formal or informal approach based on the targeted audience; delivered in both languages with
corresponding resources in the selected language.
•
Series of Publications related to child care issues and options: directories which lists all licensed
child care options in Ottawa; guides to assist parents in their child care search for licensed and
unlicensed child care.
•
Ongoing collaboration with the child care community and support services to child care programs.

INFORMATION SUR LA GARDE DES PETITS
L’Information sur la garde des petits est un service d’information et d’aiguillage sur l’apprentissage et la garde des
jeunes enfants financé par les pouvoirs municipaux. Le mandat de l'Information sur la garde des petits est de
fournir des renseignements et de conseiller les parents sur toutes les options de garde possibles dans la région
d’Ottawa. Son personnel est disponible par téléphone ou en personne pour aider les parents à faire des choix
éclairés en ce qui a trait aux services de garde. Nos services sont offerts en français et en anglais.
L’Information sur la garde des petits offre une variété de services et de produits incluant :
•
Service d’information et d’aiguillage sur les choix et les questions relatifs aux services de garde:
en personne et par téléphone; comprend les options de gardes agrééés et non agrééés; avec
service de consultation afin de répondre aux besoins individualisés de la clientèle.
•
Information précise fondée sur les données recueillies par l’Information sur la garde des petits :
pour nos clients, nos partenaires, la communauté des services de garde et nos bailleurs de fonds à
la recherche de renseignements supplémentaires, de données et statistiques spécifiques afin de
rencontrer les besoins d'information identifiés fournies en français et en anglais.
•
Centre de ressources sur les lieux pour clients afin de discuter en personne avec une conseillère
d'information de leurs besoins en matière de garde à l'enfance; pour obtenir de la documentation sur
papier et des ressources portant sur l'apprentissage et la garde des enfants.
•
Services à la communauté pour parents à la recherche d'information, d'aiguillage et de conseils
afin de pouvoir accéder nos services et nos ressources en personne à une location hors site
•
Séances d’information et ateliers sur les choix de services de garde pour parents à la recherche
d'un service de garde et pour aider aux professionels à mieux desservir leur clientèle, approche
informelle ou formelle dépendemment de la clientèle ciblée, offerts en français et en anglais avec
des ressources dans la langue sélectionnée
•
Série de quatre publications sur les questions et les choix relatifs aux services de garde; soit des
répertoires qui comprennent les options de garde agréées à Ottawa et des guides pour parents à la
recherche d'un service de garde agréé ou non avec une composante pour les responsables de
garde en ce qui a trait à la garde informelle.
•
Collaboration continue auprès de la communauté des services de garde et services de soutien
pour les différents programmes.

Children’s Integration Support Services (CISS)
Children’s Integration Support Services (CISS) provides support, in English and in French, to licensed early learning
and care programs (nursery schools, child care centres and home child care agencies) that integrate children with
special needs, between 6 weeks to 10 years of age, within the City of Ottawa.
The range of support services can include but are not limited to:

Resource Consultants provide consultative support on an ongoing basis to various early learning and care
programs through recommendations and by suggesting strategies for adapting activities and by providing
training to ensure a positive inclusion experience for everyone. Using a team approach, the Resource
Consultant facilitates the development of a functional Team Service Plan.

Behaviour Consultants provide consultative support, in collaboration with the Resource Consultants, to early
learning and care program teaching teams to assist in the development of skills to meet the challenging
behavioural needs of children.

Behaviour Consultants provide consultative support through the Positive Outcomes Program, for children who
do not qualify for CISS, to early learning and care program teaching teams to assist in the development of skills
to meet the challenging behavioural needs of children.

A variety of training opportunities are available for early learning and care program teaching teams as well as
individuals involved with children who have special needs and parents/guardians.

Enhanced Staff Support Funding may be available to early learning and care programs, in order to hire a
program assistant, when enrolling a child whose needs meet the eligibility criteria for this level of support to
ensure a positive inclusion experience.

Access to a comprehensive Resource Library which includes materials, books, DVD’s and disability awareness
kits for early learning and care programs and parents/guardians as well as toys and equipment. CISS also
publishes the ACCESS Integration newsletter three times a year which is also available on our website. To

Parents/guardians are encouraged to visit early learning and care programs of their choice to discuss enrolment
possibilities and to speak with the Intake & Resource Coordinator at Children’s Integration Support Services as soon as
they begin to explore the various options. In order to access supports through CISS, children must meet the eligibility
criteria.

Services d’intégration pour jeunes enfants (SIJE)
Les Services d’intégration pour jeunes enfants (SIJE) offrent des services de soutien, en français et en anglais, aux
services de garde à l’enfance agréés (prématernelles, centres éducatifs et agences de garde d’enfants à domicile) qui
intègrent des enfants ayant des besoins spéciaux, âgés de 6 semaines à 10 ans, dans la Ville d’Ottawa.
Les mécanismes de soutien comprennent, mais ne se limitent pas à:

Des Consultantes-ressources fournissent des consultations aux services de garde à l’enfance agréés en
offrant des recommandations et de la formation ainsi qu’en en suggérant des stratégies pour adapter des
activités afin d’assurer une expérience d'inclusion positive pour tous. Les consultantes-ressources facilitent le
développement de plans de service fonctionnels par l’entremise d’une conférence de cas, et ce, en
collaboration avec l’équipe.

Une Consultante en comportement fournit des consultations, en collaboration avec les Consultantesressources, auprès du personnel éducateur des services de garde à l’enfance pour soutenir le développement
d’habiletés afin d’appuyer les comportements-défis des enfants.

Une Consultante en comportement fournit des consultations par l’entremise du Programme d’orientation positif
auprès du personnel éducateur des services de garde à l’enfance pour soutenir le développement d’habiletés
afin d’appuyer les comportements-défis des enfants qui ne sont pas admissibles aux SIJE.

Une variété de formations est disponible pour le personnel éducateur des services de garde à l’enfance ainsi
que pour les personnes qui travaillent auprès des enfants ayant des besoins spéciaux et les parents/tuteurs.

Des fonds d’enrichissement d’appui au personnel peuvent être alloués aux services de garde à l’enfance pour
faire l’embauche d’un(e) auxiliaire de programme lorsqu’un enfant inscrit au programme est admissible aux
critères pour ce niveau d’appui afin d’assurer une expérience d’inclusion positive pour tous.

L’accès à une bibliothèque ressources avec une variété de livres, de DC, de trousses de sensibilisation aux
handicaps et autres ressources pour les services de garde à l’enfance et les parents/tuteurs ainsi que des
jouets et de l’équipement. Les SIJE publient leur bulletin de nouvelles ACCÈS intégration trois fois par année,
celui-ci est aussi disponible sur le site Internet. Pour s’abonner, svp consultez le www.bulletinsije.ca .
Les parents/tuteurs sont encouragés de visiter les services de garde à l’enfance agréés de leur choix afin de discuter
de la possibilité d’inscription. Il est fortement recommandé de parler à la Responsable à l’accueil des Services
d’intégration pour jeunes enfants aussitôt que vous explorez différentes options. Pour avoir accès aux services des
SIJE, l’enfant doit répondre aux critères d’admissibilité.

Licensed Nursery School/Prématernelle agréée
A nursery school is a licensed half-day program with or without provision of extended hours. It is a supervised
program for children anywhere from 1½ to 5 years. Ages, days and times of operation vary between nursery
schools. The principle advantage of this child care option is to provide a good transition between the home setting
and school while providing them an opportunity to socialize with other children of similar age. This type of
program usually follows the school’s calendar. However, a few nursery schools continue to operate in the summer
time.
Une prématernelle est un programme agréé offert à demi temps avec ou sans provision d`heures de garde
prolongées. Il s’agit d’un programme pour enfants à partir de l`âge de 1½ à 5 ans. L’âge d’admission, les temps
de la journée ainsi que les jours de la semaine varient d’un service à l’autre. Le but principal de cette option de
garde est d’offrir une bonne transition entre la maison et l’école tout en donnant l'occasion aux enfants de
socialiser avec des pairs du même âge. Ce type de programme suit habituellement le calendrier scolaire,
toutefois, quelques prématernelles sont également ouvertes en été.
Headstart Program/Programme bon départ
A licensed Headstart program is designed to provide an enriched preschool learning experience for 2.5 to 5 year
old children from economically and socially disadvantaged environments.
Un programme bon départ agréé est conçu en fonction de fournir une expérience d’apprentissage enrichissante
pour des enfants de 2.5 à 5 ans de milieux socio-économiques défavorables.

Generally, child care costs are the responsibility of the parents. Subsidies may be available to qualifying families
living in Ottawa who require financial assistance in order to help them with licensed child care expenses. For

parents wish a similar curriculum as the typical kindergarten program found in an elementary school. A lower
child/staff ratio is offered within the nursery school setting.
Ceci est un programme alternatif dans une prématernelle agréée pour les enfants âgés de 4 et/ou de 5 ans pour
qui les parents veulent un curriculum similaire des écoles élémentaires offrant un programme de maternelle et/ou
