In life we always seem to be looking forward – which is a good thing – being
proactive and planning, but sometimes stopping, living in the moment, and
celebrating what we’ve achieved is also an important part of our experience.
Last week I received notification from the IB organization that our bid for IB
Diploma Program (DP) authorization was successful. HURRAY! While the
application for IB status culminated in a two day verification visit in January, it
was the result of 18 months of hard work on the part of the faculty and they are

AISA - GISS - ASOY
The
Association
of
International Schools in Africa
(AISA) Global Issues Service Summit (GISS) is committed to the goal of seeking sustainable
solutions to global problems. This conference serves as a platform to build partnership among
students and teachers on the African continent and beyond. The theme this year is ‘Funguka’:
Are you ready? Funguka is a Kiswahili word for open up, advocate.
The 8th AISA-GISS conference will take place at the International School of Tanganyika (IST) in
Dar-es- Salaam, Tanzania. March 12—14. ASOY will send a delegation of 8 students to this
conference. These students have shown great initiative, resourcefulness and resilience through
their various service learning groups and have been particularly commitment to their projects.
Students will hold a workshop on a global issues including: poverty, unemployment, new
technologies, the environment, gender equality, education, wildlife conservation, global
warming, preventable diseases including waterborne diseases, Ebola, HIV/AIDS all of which
plague the African continent.
There will be guest speakers from all over the world including (Human Rights Activist ) Vicky
Ntetema, Ishmael Beah (Activist and writer), Dr Rik Peeperkorn (Global Health Expert), just to
name a few. Congratulations to the following students selected for this amazing opportunity!
