This appliance is not equipped with a main power switch. Even when the appliance
is turned off, the power supply to the appliance is not completely turned off when the
power cord is plugged in. Pull out the adaptor when not using the appliance for long

To change the fuse in this type of plug proceed as follows:

Fit a new fuse which should be a BS1362 5 Amp A.S.T.A. or BSI approved type.
Refit the fuse cover.
If the AC mains plug fitted to the lead supplied with this equipment is not suitable for your type
of AC outlet sockets, it should be changed to an AC mains lead, complete with moulded plug of
the appropriate type.

If you’re a bass player who loves those classic
synth bass lines but never wanted to learn to use
a keyboard, the DEEP IMPACT SB1 is just what
you’ve been waiting for: your favorite synth bass
sounds at the tips of your fingers. With 9 programmable presets to choose from, you can just
plug and play or shape the sounds to suit you.
With the true/clean bypass mode, when you turn
the effect off, there is no coloration of the sound from the input.
PROTECTING YOURSELF AND THE SB1 DEEP IMPACT

Never touch the AC Adaptor with wet hands.
Always disconnect the AC Adaptor from the power supply by pulling on the adaptor/plug, not the
cord.
Allow only an AKAI professional dealer or qualified professional engineer to repair or reassemble
the SB1 DEEP IMPACT. Apart from voiding the warranty, unauthorized engineers might touch live
internal parts and receive a serious electrical shock.
Do not put, or allow anyone to put any object, especially metal objects, into the SB1 DEEP IMPACT.
Use only a household AC power supply. Never use a DC power supply.
If water or any other liquid is spilled into or onto the SB1 DEEP IMPACT, disconnect the power, and
call your dealer.
Make sure that the unit is well-ventilated, and away from direct sunlight.
To avoid damage to internal circuitry, as well as the external finish, keep the SB1 DEEP IMPACT
away from sources of direct heat (stoves, radiators, etc.).
Avoid using aerosol insecticides, etc. near the SB1 DEEP IMPACT. They may damage the surface,
and may ignite.
Do not use denaturated alcohol, thinner or similar chemicals to clean the SB1 DEEP IMPACT. They

OUTPUT LEVEL control
This sets the output level (volume) of the effect.
Operation:
1.
Connect your bass to the INPUT jack.

PARAMETER selector
To select the parameters that you want to edit.

Connect the OUTPUT jack to your amps INPUT jack or to the input of another
effect unit.

INPUT LEVEL control
This sets the input signal level.
Set it so that the red LED (OVER) doesn't light even when playing at your loudest.

Turn your system on.
4.
Press the ON/OFF (right) footswitch to turn the effect on (the LED (red) will light).

Adjust the INPUT LEVEL and OUTPUT LEVEL while playing the bass. The input
level should be adjusted so as the red LED of Level meter does not come on when
playing at your loudest. However, since the pitch cannot be determined properly if
the level is too low, the level should be adjusted as high as possible without turning
on the red LED (see “Important note” below for more detailed information).
Level meter: The LEDs show the following levels for the input signal:
Red - overload, level is too high / Yellow - correct level / Green - signal is too low
Note: It is important that the correct level (yellow) is set: If the level is too high, the
sound will be distorted. If the level is too low, the pitch will not be detected correctly
and the effect will not work properly.

Displays the program number.

DATA display
Displays the data value of the currently selected parameter.

Turn this dial to adjust the parameter’s data value (select the parameter with the
PARAMETER selector).

Lights when the effect is turned on.

PROGRAM UP footswitch
Switches through the 9 programs.
The programs are selected from 1 through 9 and back to 1, you cannot select
lower program numbers (from 8 to 7 for example) unless a separately sold pedal
is connected to the PROGRAM DOWN input.

ON/OFF footswitch
Switches the effect on and off. Also used as an ‘enter’ button after a program has
been selected with the PROGRAM UP switch.
Note: When the effect is turned off, the level display will not light. This is because
the SB1 is a true bypass and does not color the original sound of your bass when
turned off.

Select a program with the PROGRAM UP (left) footswitch.
The number will flash but the sound will not change. This is so that you can go
directly to a program without having to hear the other effects in between.
7.
Press the ON/OFF switch to enable the selected effect (the number will stop
flashing).
Important notes:
•
•
The SB1 performs the pitch detection of incoming signal. Depending on your
playing style, e.g., chord play, chopping, extremely fast passage, stc., the
pitch may be detected incorrectly and the effect sound may not sound at the
correct pitch.
The SB1 is designed for bass. It can only handle the input signal of frequency
range between 30Hz and 470Hz (equivalent to the open 6th string note to
23rd fret of 1st string of a 6-string bass). If the incoming signal is outside this
range, it cannot detect the pitch correctly and so the synth sound (effect
sound) will be out of tune.

Editing the Sounds
You can edit the characteristics of each of the 9 programs and you should experiment
with the different parameters to see if there is a sound that better suits your musical
ideas. Each parameter is correlated with other parameters. If altering one parameter
doesn’t change the sound much, try altering the other parameters as well. The programs
can be returned to the factory presets very easily (see step 3 below), so you don’t have
to worry about losing the sounds that are already programmed.

Select a program, as shown in steps 6 and 7 above.
2.
Turn the PARAMETER selector to the parameter that you want to edit (see next
PARAMETERS).
3.
Adjust the parameter data value from 1 to 9 with the DATA control (the factory
preset is 5 for all parameters, except for PRESET, allowing you to set the offset of
+/- 4).
4.
Repeat steps 2 and 3 until you have adjusted the parameters for that program.
When you have finished, the parameters are memorized automatically and you
can then go on to select another program number.
PARAMETERS
NOTE OFF LEVEL:
Sets the sensitivity for triggering the end of the effect. Too high a
setting may cut off the effect sound early and too low a setting
may make the separate notes indistinguishable.
This is a global parameter, which means that if you change this
level in one program, all the other programs are changed too.
NOTE ON LEVEL:
Sets the sensitivity for triggering the start of the effect. Too high
a setting may not trigger the effect sound and too low a setting
may trigger the sound by merely touching the strings.
This is a global parameter, which means that if you change this
level in one program, all the other programs are changed too.
PRESET:
Sets the preset sound for the program (Preset 1 to 9 are assigned
to Proram 1 to 9 respectively as factory default).
Example: instead of program 1 playing preset 1, you could
change it so that program 1 plays preset 7, etc.
ATTACK:
Sets how fast the effect sound sounds. If the change in sound is
not apparent, try setting the ENVELOPE DEPTH higher and/or
DYNAMICS lower.
DECAY:
Sets how fast the effect sound diminishes. If the change in sound
is not apparent, try setting the ENVELOPE DEPTH higher and/
or DYNAMICS lower.
ENVELOPE DEPTH:
Sets the amout of changes the effect sound makes. If the change
in sound is not apparent, try setting the DYNAMICS lower.

DYNAMICS:
Sets the sensitivity of the tone variation dependant on how hard
or soft you hit a string. If the change in sound is not apparent, try
setting the ENVELOPE DEPTH lower.
CUTOFF:
Adjusts the brightness of the effect sound.
RESONANCE:
Adjusts how much the effect sound characterized by synthesizer
sound.
BALANCE:
Sets the balance between the original bass sound and the synthesized effect sound.
LEVEL:
Sets the loudness of each program.

Pour votre protection et celle du SB1 DEEP IMPACT
• Ne touchez jamais l’adaptateur secteur avec des mains mouillées.
• Débranchez toujours l’adaptateur secteur à la prise murale en tirant sur la prise et non sur

• Ne confiez les réparations ou installations sur votre SB1 DEEP IMPACT qu’aux revendeurs

Le niveau d’entrée devrait être ajusté de manière à ce que l’indicateur rouge du
mètre à Niveau ne se montre pas lorsque la lecture est au plus fort. Cependant,
parce que la hauteur ne peut pas être adéquatement déterminée si le niveau est
trop bas, le niveau devrait être ajusté aussi haut que possible sans allumer
l’indicateur rouge (voir “Remarques importantes” ci-dessous pour une information
plus détaillée).
Mètre de niveau: Les indicateurs montrent les niveaux suivants pour le signal
d’entrée:
Rouge – surchargé, le niveau est trop haut / Jaune – niveau adéquat / Vert – le
signal est trop faible
Remarque: Il est important que le niveau adéquat (jaune) soit réglé: Si le niveau
est trop haut, le son sera déformé. Si le niveau est trop bas, la hauteur ne sera pas
détectée correctement et l’effet ne fonctionnera pas convenablement.

Edition des Sons
Vous pouvez éditer les caractéristiques de chacun des 9 programmes et vous devriez
expérimenter avec les différents paramètres pour voir s’il y a un son qui correspond le
mieux à vos idées musicales. Chaque paramètre est corrélé avec d’autres paramètres.
Si l’altération d’un paramètre ne modifie pas beaucoup le son, essayez d’altérer aussi
les autres paramètres. Les programmes peuvent être ramenés aux préréglages d’usine
très facilement (voir l’étape 3 ci-dessous), alors vous n’avez pas à craindre de perdre les
sons qui sont déjà programmés.

Sélectionnez un programme, comme montré ci-dessus dans les étapes 6 et 7.

Le numéro clignotera mais le son ne changera pas. Ceci est tel que vous pouvez
aller directement vers un programme sans avoir à écouter les autres effets au
milieu.
7.
Appuyez sur l’interrupteur ON/OFF pour permettre l’effet sélectionné (le numéro
arrêtera de clignoter).
Remarques importantes:
• Le SB1 applique la détection de hauteur d’un signal en entrée. En fonction de
votre façon de jouer, e.g., jeu de cordes, jeu coupant, passage extrêmement
rapide, etc., la hauteur peut être détectée incorrectement et l’effet de son peut
ne pas sonner à une hauteur adéquate.
• Le SB1 est conçu pour la basse. Il peut seulement supporter un signal d’entrée

Wenn Sie ein Bassist sind, der klassisch
synthetische Bässe liebt, aber niemals den
Umgang mit einem Keyboard erlernen möchte,
ist dieser DEEP IMPACT SB1 genau das, worauf
Sie gewartet haben: Ihre bevorzugten
synthetischen Bässe erklingen durch bloßes
Antippen mit dem Finger. Mit 9 verfügbaren
programmierbaren Voreinstellungen ist sowohl
das Plug & Play als auch das Anpassen des
Klanges an Ihren persönlichen Geschmack
möglich.
Mit dem echten/sauberen Bypass-Modus tritt beim Ausschalten des Effektes keine
Klangverfärbung vom Eingang aus auf.

• Berühren Sie den Netzadapter niemals mit nassen Händen.
• Ziehen Sie beim Abtrennen des Netzadapters stets am Adapter/Stecker und nicht am Kabel selbst.
• Überlassen Sie alle Wartungs- und Instandesetzungsarbeiten am SB1 DEEP IMPACT dem AKAIprofessional-Fachhändler oder dem geschulten Kundendienstpersonal. Bei eigenmächtigen und
unbefugten Eingriffen erlöschen nicht nur sämtliche Garantieansprüche, sondern es besteht auch
die Gefahr, daß die betreffende Person einen schweren elektrischen Schlag erleidet!
• Achten Sie darauf, daß keine Fremdkörper (insbesondere Gegenstände aus Metall) in das
Geräteinnere gelangen.
• Betreiben Sie das Gerät ausschließlich mit gewöhnlichem Haushaltsnetzstrom und niemals mit
Gleichstrom.
• Sollte Wasser oder eine andere Flüssigkeit auf dem SB1 DEEP IMPACT verschüttet werden bzw.

• Versprühen Sie keine Sprays (Insektenvertilgungsmittel u.dgl.) in der der Nähe des SB1 DEEP
IMPACT, da solche Chemikalien die Gehäuseoberfläche angreifen und sich entzünden können.
• Verwenden Sie zum Reinigen des SB1 DEEP IMPACT keinen denaturierten Alkohol, Verdünner
oder ähnliche Mittel, da solche Chemikalien die Gehäuseoberfläche angreifen.
• Eine Modifikation des SB1 DEEP IMPACT ist gefährlich und kann das Gerät beschädigen und
unbrauchbar machen. Sehen Sie daher unbedingt von eigenmächtigen Eingriffen ab!
• Achten Sie darauf, daß der SB1 DEEP IMPACT beim Betrieb auf einer festen, ebenen Fläche steht.
• Um optimale Betriebsvoraussetzungen zu schaffen, sollten Sie den Aufstellort für Ihren SB1 DEEP
IMPACT sorgfältig wählen und auf ordnungsgemäße Handhabung achten. Vermeiden Sie eine
Aufstellung des SB1 DEEP IMPACT:
1. an feuchten und staubigen Orten.
2. in schlecht belüfteten Räumen.
3. auf geneigten Stellflächen.
4. an Orten, wo das Gerät starken Erschütterungen ausgesetzt ist (z.B. in einem Fahrzeug).
5. in extrem warmer oder kalter Umgebung.
• Für einen einwandfreien Betrieb sicherstellen, daß einige Sekunden gewartet wird, bevor das
Gerät wieder eingeschaltet wird, nachdem die Spannungsversorgung ausgeschaltet wurde.
• Wenn Sie dieses Gerät an eine andere Anlage anschließen, vergewissern Sie sich, daß die
gesamte Anlage ausgeschaltet ist, damit Fehlfunktionen oder Beschädigungen an den Lautsprechern
vermieden werden.

INPUT LEVEL <Eingangspegel-Regler>
Hiermit wird der Eingangssignalpegel eingestellt.
Stellen Sie so ein, dass das rote LED (OVER) bei der Höchstlautstärke nicht
leuchtet.

Drücken Sie den ON/OFF-Fußchalter (rechts), um den Effekt einzuschalten (das
LED (rot) leuchtet).

Stellen Sie die INPUT LEVEL und OUTPUT LEVEL während der Wiedergabe der
Bässe ein. Der Eingangspegel sollte so eingestellt werden, dass das rote LED des
Pegelmessers auch bei der Wiedergabe mit Höchstlautstärke nicht aufleuchtet.
Dennoch, da die Erkennung der Tonhöhe bei zu niedrig eingestelltem Pegel nicht
einwandfrei möglich ist, sollte der Pegel schon so hoch wie möglich – ohne dass
jedoch das rote LED aufleuchtet – eingestellt werden (Einzelheiten hierzu
entnehmen Sie bitte dem nachfolgenden Abschnitt “Wichtige Hinweise”).
Betrieb:
Pegelmesser: Die LEDs zeigen die nachfolgend aufgeführten Pegel für das
Eingangssignal:
Rot – Überlast, der Pegel ist zu hoch / Gelb – richtiger Pegel / Grün – Signal ist
zu niedrig
Hinweis: Es ist wichtig, dass der richtige Pegel (gelb) eingestellt ist: Bei zu hohem
Pegel ist der Ton verzerrt. Wenn der Pegel zu niedrig eingestellt ist, wird die Tonhöhe
nicht ordnungsgemäß erkannt und der Effekt funktioniert nicht richtig.

Schaltet den Effekt ein und aus. Dient auch als “Eingabe”-Taste, nachdem mit dem
PROGRAM UP-Schalter ein Programm angewählt worden ist.

Editieren der Klänge
Sie können die Eigenschaften jedes einzelnen der 9 Programme editieren und Sie sollten
mit den verschiedenen Parametern experimentieren, um festzustellen, ob der eine oder
andere Klang möglicherweise besser zu Ihren musikalischen Ideen passt. Jeder einzelne
Parameter bezieht sich auf andere Parameter. Wenn die Änderung eines Parameters
keine deutliche Klangänderung zur Folge hat, sollten Sie versuchen, auch die anderen
Parameter zu verändern. Die werkseitige Einstellung der Programme ist problemlos
möglich (siehe nachfolgend aufgeführten Schritt 3), so dass Sie nicht befürchten müssen,
dass bereits programmierte Klänge verlorengehen.
1.
Wählen Sie ein Programm – wie in den oben beschriebenen Schritten 6 und 7 –
aus.
2.
Drehen Sie den PARAMETER-Wähler auf den Parameter, den Sie editieren
möchten (siehe nächstes Kapitel “PARAMETER”).
3.
Stellen Sie den Parameterwert mit dem DATA-Regler auf einen Wert zwischen 1
und 9 ein (werkseitig wurden alle Parameterwerte auf 5 eingestellt – mit Ausnahme
von PRESET, was Ihnen die Einstellung von +/- 4 des Offsets ermöglicht).
4.
Wiederholen Sie die Schritte 2 und 3 bis Sie alle Parameter für das entsprechende
Programm eingestellt haben.
Nach Beendigung werden die Parameter automatisch gespeichert und Sie können
die nächste Programmnummer anwählen.
Hinweis: Bei ausgeschaltetem Effekt leuchtet das Pegel-Display nicht. Grund dafür
ist, dass es sich bei dem SB1 um einen echten Bypass handelt, der den Originalton
beim Ausschalten Ihres Basses nicht verfärbt.
6.
Wählen Sie mit dem PROGRAM UP-Fußchalter (links) ein Programm aus.
Die Nummer blinkt, aber der Ton ändert sich nicht. Dadurch können Sie ein
Programm direkt anwählen, ohne sich zwischenzeitlich die anderen Effekte anhören
zu müssen.
7.
Drücken Sie zum Aktivieren des angewählten Effektes den ON/OFF-Schalter (die
Nummer hört auf zu blinken).
Wichtige Hinweise:
• Der SB1 führt die Tonhöhen-Erkennung des eingehenden Signals aus. Abhängig
von Ihrem Spielstil wie z.B. Akkorde, Wechsel, extrem schnelle Passagen usw.,
wird die Tonhöhe möglicherweise nicht richtig erkannt und der Effektklang ertönt
nicht in der richtigen Tonhöhe.
• Der SB1 wurde für Bässe konstruiert. Er kann nur das Eingangssignal des
Frequenzbereiches zwischen 30 Hz und 470 Hz bearbeiten (entsprechend der
offenen 6. Seite bis zum 23. Griff der 1. Seite eines 6-Seiten-Basses. Wenn das
Eingangssignal außerhalb dieses Bereiches liegt, ist keine ordnungsgemäße
Erkennung der Tonhöhe möglich und somit ist der synthetische Klang
(Effektklang) nicht einstellbar.

Stellt ein, wie sich der Effektklang verringert. Wenn die
Änderung des Klanges nur unwesentlich ist, sollten Sie
versuchen, die ENVELOPE DEPTH höher und/oder die
DYNAMICS niedriger einzustellen.
ENVELOPE DEPTH:
Stellt die Menge ein, um die sich der Effektklang verändert.
Wenn die Änderung des Klanges nur unwesentlich ist, sollten
Sie versuchen, die DYNAMICS niedriger einzustellen.
DYNAMICS:
Stellt die Empfindlichkeit der Klangvariationen ein. Dies
abhängig davon wie hart oder wie sanft Sie eine Seite
anschlagen. Wenn die Änderung des Klangs nur
unwesentlich ist, sollten Sie versuchen, die ENVELOPE
DEPTH niedriger einzustellen.
CUTOFF:
Stellt die Helligkeit des Effektklangs ein.
RESONANCE:
Stellt ein, wie stark der Effektklang durch Synthesizer-Klang
geprägt ist.
BALANCE:
Stellt die Balance zwischen dem Original-Basston und dem
synthesierten Effektklang ein.
LEVEL:
Stellt die Loudness von jedem einzelnen Programm ein.

Stellt die Empfindlichkeit zum Auslösen des Effektendes ein.
Eine zu hohe Einstellung führt zu einem frühen Ausschalten
des Effektklanges und eine zu niedrige Einstellung kann dazu
führen, dass separate Hinweise nicht zu unterscheiden sind.
Hierbei handelt es sich um einen globalen Parameter, d.h.
dass bei Änderung dieses Parameters in einem Programm
auch alle anderen Programme geändert werden.
Stellt die Empfindlichkeit zum Auslösen des Effektbeginns
ein. Eine zu hohe Einstellung löst den Effektklang
möglicherweise nicht aus und bei einer zu niedrigen
Einstellung wird der Klang unter Umständen durch bloßes
