On 05 July 2013, after 39 years of loyal and dedicated service to Canada, Major Brent
Mills will retire from the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) and The Royal Regiment of Canadian
Artillery.

Brent began his military career when he enlisted with the 49th Field Regiment in 1973.
After a year with the Militia and a couple of call-outs with the Regular Force, he became
convinced that this was the life that he wanted to follow and, in 1974, transferred to the Regular
Force. He served in 2 RCHA, 1 RCHA, the RCA Battle School, 3 RCHA, 5 RALC, and the
Artillery School, in Petawawa, Germany, Shilo, Valcartier, and Gagetown. His ERE tours
include service at the Land Forces Trials and Evaluations Unit and at the Royal Military College
of Canada.

Brent’s career was divided between service in the ranks and as an officer. As an NCM,
he progressed to the rank of Master Warrant Officer and attained the title of Master Gunner. In
1997, while he was the Drill Sergeant-Major at RMC, he was commissioned and undertook
Technical Staff training. This last portion of his career has been mainly involved in the
capability development and management realm. Like Brent will soon be, most of the equipment
that he operated or worked on such as the ¾ ton truck, the L5 pack howitzer, and the M109 (both
the 26 calibre and 39 calibre barrel) are now long retired from the service.

Along the way, Brent has worked with some really top notch people, got to do some
really interesting, fun and challenging things and visited some beautiful places both in Canada
and elsewhere. Brent and his wife, Christine, will continue to reside in Kingston. His
immediate plans are to attend the local community college in the Health and Fitness Promotion
program and then to assist the more mature-aged population in attaining their fitness goals. He
also looks forward to continuing an active lifestyle through hiking, biking, refereeing ice hockey,
and continuing to develop his woodworking skills.

Brent a commencé sa carrière militaire quand il s'est enrôlé dans le 49e Régiment de
campagne en 1973. Après une année avec la Milice et un couple de « call-outs » avec la Force
régulière, il est devenu convaincu qu'il s'agissait de la vie qu'il voulait suivre et, en 1974,

Sur le chemin, Brent a travaillé avec des gens de qualité, a obtenu de faire des choses
vraiment intéressantes, amusantes et stimulantes et visité quelques beaux endroits au Canada et
ailleurs. Brent et son épouse, Christine, continueront à résider à Kingston. Ses projets immédiats
sont d'assister le collège communautaire local dans le programme de promotion de la santé et de
remise en forme et d'aider la population plus mature d'âge à atteindre leurs objectifs de fitness. Il
attend également avec intérêt de poursuivre une vie actif à travers la randonnée, le vélo,
l'arbitrage au hockey sur glace, et en continuant à développer ses talents de menuisier.
