There are many actors who can facilitate or burden the process: the student, college/university teacher, tutor, supervisor, researcher, employer, and other stakeholders. And there are many ways to learn. During this seminar we would like to concentrate on learning by acting and reflecting. We would like to focus again on the well-known triangular figure head-heart-hands: how this principle could support and enrich learning in times of changes? How do we relate analytical and practical knowledge in never ending changes of social life? During the seminar we would like to discuss challenges which arise in the transition from student to professional. with professionals, students, trainers, educators, researchers in social education and related sciences To initiate this debate, we suggest that we analyze crucial issues in the process: from the first real contact with the profession in practice placement, to integrating theory and practice during study time, to becoming professional in a real work situation. 1. Field placement How does a student make a transition from college/university to the practice placement? What does it mean to be a student in practice placement? What is student’s identity: a trainee? a student? an emerging professional? What is our role as teachers in supporting the student to transfer theory to practice? What do we as educators construct during field placement: competences, knowledge, experiences? What is the role of the placement tutor? Of the supervisor? Of the educator? 8th FESET Seminar, Marseille 9-11 MAY 2012 Pwww.feset.org FESET Association Européenne des Centres de Formation au Travail Socio-Educatif European Association of Training Centres for Socio-Educational Care Work Organisation Internationale Non Gouvernementale (OING) dotée du statut participatif auprès du Conseil de l’Europe Non Governmental International Organisation (NGIO) enjoying participative status with the Council of Europe How can research support the student in transferring to practice placement and help him/her to integrate theory to practice? 2. Practice conceptualization. How does a student make a transition from practice placement back to college/university? What is useful before, during or after practice placement? What is our role as educators in supporting students to transfer practice to theory? What are the pedagogical resources which allow integration of theory and practice? How can research support practice conceptualization? How is theory applied to practice? And how does practice enrich theory? 3. Becoming a professional How does a student make a transition from college/university to professional work placement? When does a student consider him/herself as a professional? when he/she obtains the results of exams? a qualification? a diploma? when he/she has responsibilities ? when he/she has the team recognition ? client recognition? What is our role as teachers in supporting the student to transfer theory and practice to real life situation? How do we maintain relation with former student and/or his/her employer? How does research support the student when moving to work placement? How can research support the integration of theory and practice in a real work situation? During the 8th FESET Seminar different activities will be organized: plenary sessions, workshops, forum, field visits and a charming social programme. Student award “Paolo Marcon” ceremony and the FESET General Assembly will take place on Thursday 10th afternoon, according to the prelimary programme here below.
