reached by a 25-minute ferry ride from the northwest tip of the larger
island of Malta. Highlight This is peace and quiet perfected, with a

resort’s organic garden, which produces all the kitchen’s salads and many

Location On the north bank of Lake Massawippi, this 1898 house is a
90-minute drive from Montreal. Cuisine Roland Ménard’s dishes use
the freshest local produce, and there are two tables of Quebec cheeses.
Dinner is enhanced by sommelier Michael Otaka’s wine suggestions, a
pianist and superb lake views. Thing to do In winter, you can skate, crosscountry ski, snowshoe and ice-fish; in summer, discover the area on
the resort’s Larson speedboat. (More than half the wooded shoreline is
uninhabited.) Room to book The detached lakeside Cartier Suite – the
original ice house – is 100 metres from the main house; it comes with its
