It is with pleasure that we introduce you to Brainstorm, the
newsletter of the Canadian Neuroethics Interest Group. Last
year we launched an on-line consultation following a
neuroethics information session held at the Canadian Bioethics
Society in Toronto. One of the strongest recommendations was
to create a newsletter, a project we have been working on in the
past months. We hope that you will enjoy reading about
forthcoming events and find the neuroethics literature updates
useful. As there is always room for improvement, we welcome
your input and suggestions. Don’t hesitate to send us
([email protected]) material you would like to share
through this new research and communication tool.

National Core for Neuroethics at the University of British
Columbia, Vancouver, Canada
A position is available to spearhead a 3-year NIH funded
project to evaluate investigator needs for integrating ethics
into neuroscience. The position is available at either the
postdoctoral level or as a research fellow for an individual
with a Master’s or PhD degree in an appropriate discipline.
Some training in neuroscience is a requirement. The
incumbent will (a) use survey instruments to identify the
ethics needs of the large community of interest that
conducts basic, clinical and applied commercial brain
mapping research funded by federal sources, and (b)
conduct focus groups to explore the deeper and more
reflective dimensions of the way scientists think about the
work they do and its broader social implications. Relevant
research experience as well as interest in the agenda of
modern neuroethics is required. The position is available
May 1, 2008, but can be filled at a mutually agreed upon
date.
The National Core for Neuroethics at UBC is a vibrant
organization devoted to scholarly exploration of ethical
issues at the leading edge of neuroscience. We value
integrity, enthusiasm, and quality scholarship.
