First Notice - GAC-MAC Winnipeg 2013 Meeting

On behalf of the Geological Association of Canada and the Mineralogical Association of Canada, the Winnipeg 2013 Organizing Committee
invites you to attend the Joint Annual Meeting, in May 2013, at the Convention Centre in downtown Winnipeg. The city is located 29 km
west of the longitudinal centre of North America on the sediments of the immense glacial Lake Agassiz. We are just a short distance
from one of the world’s largest rare-metal pegmatites at Tanco, spectacular outcrops of Paleozoic carbonate rocks in the Interlake region,
Precambrian rocks of the Superior craton and Trans-Hudson orogen, and a score of other geological attractions. Winnipeg is renowned for its
cosmopolitan arts, culture and cuisine, and is once again the home of the Winnipeg Jets hockey team. The Manitoba Museum, Assiniboine
Park, Leo Mol Sculpture Garden, and The Forks National Historic Site are just a few of the city’s numerous cultural sites. A diverse technical program of symposia, special sessions, general sessions, and short courses is being planned for Winnipeg 2013. Field trips will explore
a cross section of Manitoba geology from the Archean to the Holocene, and social events will reflect the life and hospitality of the Prairies.

Au nom de l’Association géologique du Canada et de l’Association minéralogique du Canada, les membres du Comité d’organisation Winnipeg 2013 vous invite
à leur réunion annuelle conjointe de mai 2013 au Convention Centre du centre-ville de Winnipeg. Située à 29 km à l’ouest du centre longitudinal de l’Amérique
du Nord, Winnipeg est construite sur les couches sédimentaires de l’immense lac glaciaire Agassiz. Notre réunion se tiendra à proximité de Tanco, lieu de l’une
des plus grandes pegmatites de métaux rares de la planète, de magnifiques affleurements de carbonates paléozoïques de la régions des lacs, des roches précambriennes du craton du Supérieur et de l’orogène trans-hudsonien, et de nombreux autres attraits géologiques. Winnipeg est un ville cosmopolite par ses attraits
artistiques, culturels et culinaires, et toujours la ville hôte des Winnipeg Jets équipe de hockey de la Ligue nationale. Le Manitoba Museum, l’Assiniboine Park,
le Leo Mol Sculpture Garden, et le Lieu historique national du Canada de La Fourche ne sont que quelques-uns des nombreux sites d’intérêt culturel de la ville.
Un programme varié d’activités professionnelles (symposium, sessions spécialisées, cours intensifs) est en voie d’élaboration pour l’occasion. Des excursions de
terrain permettront d’explorer la colonne stratigraphique du Manitoba, depuis l’Archéen jusqu’à l’Holocène, et le programme d’activités mondaines reflétera la
