Herzlich Willkommen beim ASA-Programm!
Das ASA-Programm unterstützt junge Menschen in ihrem Engagement, etwas zu
bewegen! Es ist ein dynamisches Lernprogramm zur Ausbildung von gesellschaftsund entwicklungspolitisch interessierten, weltoffenen und kritisch nachfragenden
Menschen. ASA ist in Trägerschaft der Engagement-Global gGmbH – Service für
Entwicklungsinitiativen.
Das ASA-Programm gibt es schon seit mehr als 50 Jahren. Aus einer kleinen
Studenteninitiative 1960 ist ein umfassendes Qualifizierungsprogramm für junge
Menschen geworden, das heute vier Teilprogramme anbietet: Das Basisprogramm,
das Süd-Nord-Programm, das Programm "ASApreneurs - Shaping a Sustainable
World" sowie das europäische Kooperationsprogramm GLEN (Global Education
Network of Young Europeans).
Dieser Katalog beinhaltet alle Projekte des Basisprogramms, die 2013 durchgeführt
werden. Für die anderen Teilprogramme liegt jeweils ein eigener Programmkatalog
vor, den Sie auf unserer Website unter www.asa-programm.de herunterladen
können. Dort finden Sie auch weitere Informationen zum ASA-Programm, den
Teilnahmebedingungen und den Bewerbungsmodalitäten.
Auf den folgenden Seiten finden Sie einen kurzen Überblick über das Angebot des
ASA-Programms und im Anschluss daran die Projektbeschreibungen des
Programmangebots 2013 in Afrika, Asien, Lateinamerika und Südost-Europa für das
Basisprogramm.

Wie funktioniert das ASA-Programm?
Das ASA-Programm vermittelt seinen Teilnehmenden Wissen über globale
Zusammenhänge und fördert Kompetenzen zur Suche nach neuen Lösungen für
Entwicklung und drängende gesellschaftliche Probleme. Anschließend verbringen die
Teilnehmenden drei Monate in Afrika, Asien, Lateinamerika oder Südosteuropa und
erfahren dort andere Lebenswelten. Ein Perspektivwechsel auf Zeit! Das ASAProgramm bringt so die Sicht von Menschen aus dem Süden in viele soziale
Zusammenhänge im Norden ein. Globales Lernen wird hier konkret – und geht nach
dem Auslandsaufenthalt in den europäischen Ländern weiter.
Ziel des ASA-Programms ist es, dass junge zukünftige VerantwortungsträgerInnen
sich langfristig und wirksam in Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft in Deutschland und
Europa für eine global nachhaltige Entwicklung engagieren.
Was bietet das ASA-Programm?
Das Besondere am ASA-Programm ist das Zusammenspiel von Trainingsseminaren
in Deutschland und Europa sowie einem dreimonatigen Projektpraktikum in einem
von mehr als 50 Ländern in Afrika, Asien, Lateinamerika oder Südosteuropa. Im
Anschluss daran werden die Erfahrungen gemeinsam ausgewertet und Methoden
und Möglichkeiten für ein weiteres Engagement in der entwicklungspolitischen
Bildungsarbeit in Deutschland und Europa vermittelt.
Dafür vergibt das ASA-Programm jedes Jahr rund 250 Stipendien. Ein aktives
Netzwerk bietet die Möglichkeit zu nachhaltigem und langfristigem Austausch von
Wissen und Erfahrungen.

Basisprogramm, Süd-Nord, ASApreneurs oder GLEN?
Das ASA-Programm gibt es seit über 50 Jahren. Es hat sich im Laufe der Geschichte
stetig weiter entwickelt. Neben dem bewährten Basisprogramm gibt es heute
mehrere Möglichkeiten, am ASA-Programm teilzunehmen. Gemeinsam haben alle
Programme die Kombination von Seminar- und Praxisphase sowie die Einbindung in
ein aktives Netzwerk von Gleichgesinnten. Das Wichtigste finden Sie hier im
Überblick.
Basisprogramm
Das Basisprogramm blickt auf eine jahrzehntelange Tradition zurück und beinhaltet
alle oben beschriebenen Inhalte. Es vermittelt Wissen und Kompetenzen in drei
Seminaren sowie dem dreimonatigen Auslandsaufenthalt. Die Teilnahme am ASAProgramm beginnt mit einem ersten fünftägigen Seminar im April. Ein weiteres
ebenfalls fünftägiges Seminar findet im Juni statt. Die Seminare von ASA vermitteln
Wissen
über
globale
Zusammenhänge,
interkulturelle
Kommunikation,
Konfliktfähigkeit und Entwicklungszusammenarbeit. Sie schulen die Teilnehmenden
in der Teamarbeit und bereiten sie auf die Praxisphase und die Zusammenarbeit mit
der Partnerorganisation im Gastland vor. Es werden Methoden und Möglichkeiten
vermittelt, die im Ausland gewonnenen Erfahrungen im eigenen persönlichen und
beruflichen Umfeld weiterzugeben und sich in der entwicklungspolitischen
Bildungsarbeit zu engagieren. Zwischen den beiden Seminaren ist Eigeninitiative
gefragt: Die Teilnehmenden nehmen Kontakt mit den Partnerorganisationen auf und
planen die Details der Praxisphase. Sie verbessern ggf. außerdem ihre
Sprachkenntnisse. Zwischen Juli und Dezember findet - in Absprache mit dem
Partner im Gastland – der Auslandsaufenthalt in Form eines Projektpraktikums statt.
Im März des Folgejahres werden die Erfahrungen auf einem gemeinsamen Seminar
ausgewertet und alle Teilnehmenden dazu aufgefordert und darin unterstützt, sich in
der entwicklungspolitischen Bildungsarbeit zu engagieren - und ihre Erfahrungen im
persönlichen und beruflichen Umfeld zu nutzen und weiterzugeben. Das Netzwerk
bietet allen ehemaligen Teilnehmenden die Möglichkeit, entsprechend ihren
Interessen weiter aktiv zu bleiben – in Arbeitsgruppen, Regionalgruppen oder
Gremien – und sich weiter zu qualifizieren.

Süd-Nord-Programm
Das ASA-Programm fördert neben der Teilnahme von jungen EuropäerInnen auch
den Süd-Nord-Austausch durch gegenseitige Besuche. Bei dem Süd-NordProgramm wird das Basisprogramm erweitert: zwischen April und Juni kommen
zusätzlich Teilnehmende aus dem Gastland im Süden für drei Monate nach
Deutschland. Die Praxisphase für Teilnehmende am Süd-Nord-Programm umfasst
also insgesamt 6 Monate, wobei alle Phasen des Programmablaufes gemeinsam mit
den Teilnehmenden aus dem Süden geplant und durchgeführt werden.

Programm „ASApreneurs - Shaping a Sustainable World“
"ASApreneurs - Shaping a Sustainable World" ist ein neues berufsvorbereitendes
Qualifizierungsprogramm. Es richtet sich ausschließlich an Studierende und fördert
den Aufbau von Führungskompetenz für Nachhaltigkeit. Im Zentrum der Ausbildung
stehen Persönlichkeitsentwicklung, Wissensvermittlung und Praxis. Auch hier wird
das Basisprogramm erweitert: Die Teilnehmenden erhalten über mehrere
Themenmodule Einblick in die unterschiedlichen Aspekte der nachhaltigen
Entwicklung. Sie durchlaufen neben der Praxisphase im Ausland ein zusätzliches
Praktikum bei einem Unternehmen in Deutschland. Außerdem absolvieren
ASApreneurs-TeilnehmerInnen zwei zusätzliche Seminare, bei denen sie sich mit
Fragen der strategischen Umsetzung von Nachhaltigkeit in Unternehmen und mit
Führungskompetenz für Nachhaltigkeit befassen.

Programm „Global Education Network of Young Europeans“
Das „Global Education Network of Young Europeans“ - kurz GLEN - ist eine neue
und bisher einzigartige Initiative von europäischen Partnerorganisationen und dem
ASA-Programm. GLEN bildet MultiplikatorInnen für Globales Lernen aus. Im
Mittelpunkt stehen Wissen und Methoden zu Globalem Lernen und
entwicklungspolitischer Bildungsarbeit. Das Basisprogramm wird bei GLEN durch
eine intensive zweite Praxisphase in Deutschland und Europa zwischen Oktober und
März des Folgejahres ergänzt, bei dem eigene Aktivitäten zu Globalem Lernen
geplant und durchgeführt werden.
Das Besondere an GLEN ist, dass ein Team aus einem oder einer deutschen
TeilnehmerIn und ein bis zwei Teilnehmenden aus den europäischen Partnerländern
gebildet wird. Die europäischen Partnerländer umfassen neben Deutschland Estland,

Frankreich, Schweiz, Lettland, Polen, Slowakei, Slowenien, Tschechische Republik
und Ungarn. Die Teilnehmenden durchlaufen alle Phasen des Programms
gemeinsam. Sie arbeiten und lernen zusammen in Deutschland und Europa und
anschließend in einem Transformations- oder Entwicklungsland. Die Arbeitssprache
während des gesamten Programms ist, abhängig vom Gastland im Süden, entweder
Englisch oder Französisch.

Basée à Dassa-Zoumé, Progrès-Solidarité est une organisation environnementale
béninoise qui lutte contre les méfaits de la déforestation dans la région des Collines.
Soutenue par l’organisation allemande PRO-Bénin, elle travaille pour la promotion
des pépinières villageoises de production de plants tropicaux pour le reboisement de
la région. Elle apporte son soutien technique pour la production de plants fruitiers,
d’essences forestières et de plantes médicinales. L’organisation travaille également
au développement de cette activité par la formation et l’aide à l’installation de jeunes
pépiniéristes. Progrès-Solidarité agit auprès des groupes d’agriculteurs de la région
pour améliorer leurs conditions de vie, notamment par la sensibilisation aux pratiques
agro-forestières. Dans un but éducatif, l’organisation encourage aussi la plantation
d’arbres dans les écoles. Onze personnes travaillent pour l’organisation en tant
qu’employé-e-s et environ 40 en tant que volontaires. Progrès-Solidarité accueille
des stagiaires GLEN depuis 2006.
Les participant-e-s travailleront dans les pépinières et expérimenteront plusieurs
techniques de production. Ils/elles participeront à l’agriculture villageoise associée à
la plantation d’arbres. Les stagiaires animeront également des séances d’éducation
environnementale auprès des écoliers qui seront en vacances durant la période du
stage. Ils/elles se familiariseront avec les plantes tropicales et approfondiront leurs
connaissances lors de sorties en forêt et en savane, en compagnie de personnes
expérimentées. Pendant le stage, Progrès-Solidarité fournira un logement aux
participant-e-s.
La période de réalisation du stage est de 3 mois entre juillet et octobre 2013. Les
séminaires précédant le stage auront lieu en français.
L’équipe de stagiaires sera composée d’ un-e participant-e allemand-e/suisse et d’
un-e participant-e français-e.

Appuyer les groupements apicoles pour dynamiser le
développement rural au Bénin

L’organisation Wanra Do vise à améliorer le cadre de vie des habitants de la
commune de Banikoara dans la région de l’Alibori. Elle mène des actions sur le plan
écologique et socio-économique. Wanra Do intervient dans la protection de
l’environnement et la promotion de l’agriculture tout en intégrant la lutte contre la
pauvreté et le développement socioculturel des populations locales. Ces dernières
années, elle a particulièrement travaillé dans le domaine de l’apiculture et dans la
lutte contre la prolifération des déchets non biodégradables. L’organisation accueille
des stagiaires GLEN chaque année depuis 2007.
L’objectif du stage est de renforcer les capacités des apiculteurs et de contribuer à la
sauvegarde de la biodiversité à travers l’activité apicole. Les stagiaires auront pour
tâche d’appuyer les groupements d’apiculteurs dans la gestion de leurs activités ainsi
que dans les techniques de production, de conservation et de commercialisation du
miel. Ils/elles mettront en place une plateforme de rencontre et d’échange entre les
groupements d’apiculteurs pour l’organisation de la filière. Ce stage sera l’occasion
pour les participant-e-s de découvrir la vie associative des groupements et le
fonctionnement d’une organisation locale de développement.
Des connaissances en sciences de l’environnement et en économie rurale seront
utiles pour ce stage. Les participant-e-s logeront en famille d’accueil ou dans un
appartement privé. L’organisation ne dispose pas de bureau ; les stagiaires
travailleront principalement sur le terrain et à leur domicile. Ils/elles seront
accompagné-e-s dans leurs déplacements par un guide qui assumera les tâches de
conducteur et traducteur. Il leur est conseillé d’apporter leur propre ordinateur
portable.
La période de réalisation du stage est de 3 mois entre juillet et début octobre 2013.
Les séminaires précédant le stage auront lieu en français.

Protéger les tortues du Bénin pour prévenir leur disparition

Le Réseau de Développement des Réserves naturelles Communautaires (REDERCONG) travaille dans plusieurs communes du département de l’Atacora pour lutter
contre la surexploitation des ressources naturelles. Fondée en 2008, l’organisation a
créé des jardins botaniques et des pépinières communautaires autour desquels ont
lieu des activités de sensibilisation, d’éducation et de suivi scientifique. REDERCONG accorde une place importante à la valorisation et à la transmission du savoir
traditionnel et des plantes médicinales. En formant des apiculteurs et des
pépiniéristes, l’organisation contribue également à la réduction de la pauvreté dans
la région. En 2012, REDERC-ONG a créé un centre de reproduction des tortues à
Papatia, le village où se trouve le siège de l’organisation. Ce centre vise à protéger
les tortues, qui sont l’une des espèces animales les plus menacées au Bénin,
notamment à cause de leur utilisation pour l’alimentation et la médecine
traditionnelle.
L’objectif du stage sera de contribuer à la sauvegarde des tortues en participant au
développement du centre de reproduction. Les stagiaires valoriseront le centre en
aménageant le site et rédigeront un rapport sur les espèces de tortues, leur
comportement alimentaire et leur habitat. Ils/elles organiseront des séances de
sensibilisation à l’attention de la population, en particulier des jeunes. Les stagiaires
prendront part à la vie quotidienne du village et seront en contact étroit avec ses
habitants. Le stage sera l’occasion d'avoir un aperçu sur le conflit qui intervient
souvent entre exploitation et protection de l’environnement.
Pour ce stage, il est important que les participant-e-s soient disposé-e-s à vivre en
zone rurale dans des conditions sommaires. Les stagiaires pourront loger chez la
famille du directeur de l’organisation. Il est recommandé qu’ils/elles apportent leur
propre ordinateur portable.
La période de réalisation du stage est de 3 mois entre juillet et septembre 2013. Les

Le Réseau de Développement des Réserves naturelles Communautaires (REDERCONG) travaille dans plusieurs communes du département de l’Atacora pour lutter
contre la surexploitation des ressources naturelles. Fondée en 2008, l’organisation a
créé des jardins botaniques et des pépinières communautaires autour desquels ont
lieu des activités de sensibilisation, d’éducation et de suivi scientifique. REDERCONG accorde une place importante à la valorisation et à la transmission du savoir
traditionnel et des plantes médicinales. En formant des apiculteurs et des
pépiniéristes, elle contribue également à la réduction de la pauvreté dans la région.
Le stage offre diverses possibilités d’activités en fonction des intérêts et des
compétences des participant-e-s. La principale tâche des stagiaires sera
l’organisation de cours d’éducation environnementale dans diverses écoles de la
région. Parallèlement, les participant-e-s contribueront à promouvoir la bibliothèque
ambulante de l’organisation en effectuant des visites auprès des écoles primaires.
Ils/elles participeront également à promouvoir la médecine traditionnelle en appuyant
la pharmacie abritée par l’organisation et en organisant des échanges entre
guérisseurs traditionnels et agents de la médecine moderne. Le stage permettra aux
participant-e-s de mieux appréhender les problématiques de développement rural et
de protection de l’environnement.
Des connaissances de base en écologie et une expérience dans l’éducation seront
utiles. Pour ce stage, il est important que les participant-e-s soient disposé-e-s à
vivre en zone rurale dans des conditions sommaires. Les stagiaires logeront en
famille d’accueil à Birni. Il est recommandé qu’ils/elles apportent leur propre
ordinateur portable.

Le Centre Régional de Recherche et d’Education pour un Développement Intégré
(CREDI-ONG) est une organisation béninoise créée en 2005. CREDI-ONG intervient
dans la promotion de la pisciculture intégrée, l’agriculture paysanne et la protection
de l’environnement. Elle anime la ferme aquacole Pantodon et initie et accompagne
l’installation de la réserve naturelle communautaire de la Vallée du Sitatunga, dans le
sud du Bénin. Ainsi, CREDI-ONG s’engage dans le développement du tourisme
responsable et solidaire, ce qui permet d’offrir de nouvelles ressources financières
aux habitants de la vallée. Le centre abrite également le Musée Vert de la Vallée du
Sitatunga, qui fait office de lieu d’exposition et de vente de l’artisanat local. 15
salarié-e-s travaillent actuellement pour CREDI-ONG.
L’objectif du stage sera de valoriser les plantes aromatiques et médicinales locales.
Les stagiaires iront à la rencontre des médecins traditionnels et dresseront un
inventaire des plantes médicinales les plus utilisées sur le territoire de la réserve.
Dans un second temps, ils/elles proposeront un plan d’aménagement d’un jardin de
plantes aromatiques et médicinales. Enfin, ils/elles collecteront et planteront les
plantes qui composeront le jardin. Le stage permettra de valoriser le patrimoine
naturel local et de mieux appréhender la thématique des soins par les plantes, à
travers un outil accessible à tout type de public. En outre, il servira à la diversification
des visites touristiques dans la région.
Des connaissances en botanique, en horticulture et/ou en aménagement du paysage
seront utiles pour ce stage. Les participant-e-s pourront loger en famille d’accueil ou
sur le site de la ferme. Ils/elles auront accès à l’ensemble des infrastructures de
CREDI-ONG. Si possible, ils/elles apporteront leur propre ordinateur portable.

Evaluer la situation sociale et agraire d’un village béninois

L’organisation Solidarités Agricoles INtégrées (SAIN) s’engage pour le
développement local dans la vallée de l’Ouémé, une région agricole fertile située à
une heure de route au nord de Porto-Novo. SAIN adopte une démarche d’autodéveloppement à travers la formation et le suivi de jeunes issus de familles
d’agriculteurs et par la mise en place de structures de services. Depuis une douzaine
d’années, l’organisation a appuyé la réalisation d’une école primaire, d’un centre de
santé, d’un centre de formation professionnelle agricole et d’infrastructures
d’écotourisme. SAIN coopère avec les autorités locales et diverses organisations
nationales et internationales.
L’objectif du stage sera de mener une étude sur la situation sociale et agraire du
village de Kakanitchoé. Une étude régionale similaire avait été réalisée par des
stagiaires en 2007 et il s’agira donc de constater l’évolution au fil du temps. L’étude
de 2007 avait mis en valeur un certain nombre de difficultés aux niveaux agricole et
social, et portait également sur la situation sanitaire, éducative et touristique. En se
basant sur l’étude de 2007, les participant-e-s réaliseront un recensement de la
population du village et dresseront un diagnostic de la situation agraire et de la
formation professionnelle des élèves de la ferme-école. Ils/elles compareront leurs
résultats à ceux de l’étude de 2007 et en tireront des conclusions. Les stagiaires
conduiront des entretiens avec les habitants du village et prendront part à la vie
quotidienne. Ils/elles appréhenderont ainsi les problématiques de développement
rural au Bénin.
La maîtrise des méthodes de l’entretien qualitatif et quantitatif ainsi que du traitement
informatique des données statistiques constitue un atout pour ce stage. Les
participant-e-s pourront être logé-e-s au village, dans les locaux du centre
d’écotourisme.
La période de réalisation du stage est de 3 mois entre août et octobre 2013. Les

Communautaire - International (CEDHOC) est une organisation béninoise basée à
Klouekanme dans la région de Couffo. Sa mission est d’accompagner les
populations rurales et urbaines à tirer durablement parti des ressources offertes par
leur environnement. Le CEDHOC renforce les capacités des populations afin qu’elles
puissent participer au développement de leur communauté. Avec la collaboration
d’organisations nationales et internationales, le CEDHOC travaille sur des projets
communautaires dans les domaines de l’hygiène, de l’assainissement et de la
préservation des ressources naturelles. Actuellement, l’équipe du CEDHOC est
composée de trois employé-e-s et de neuf bénévoles.
L’objectif du stage sera de réaliser un site web afin de valoriser les potentialités de
l’écotourisme dans les zones abritant l’antilope Sitatunga. Pour ce faire, les
stagiaires collecteront des données et réaliseront des photographies. Une seconde
tâche des participant-e-s sera d’organiser une formation, pour les comités villageois
de sauvegarde (CVS), sur les techniques de surveillance et l’organisation des
patrouilles sur les sites. Les stagiaires vivront en contact étroit avec la population et
découvriront les réalités de la vie rurale.
Des connaissances en informatique et en création de site web seront utiles pour ce
stage. Le CEDHOC facilitera l’accès des stagiaires à un logement ou à des familles
d’accueil. Il est souhaité que les stagiaires apportent leur propre ordinateur portable.

L’Hôpital Sainte Bakhita est une structure sanitaire confessionnelle de l’Eglise
catholique construite par le Diocèse de Natitingou. L’hôpital collabore avec les
stratégies de développement sanitaires nationales en servant la population sans
distinction de race, ethnie ou inclination religieuse. Il fournit des soins aux malades et
vise l’amélioration de l’état général et nutritionnel de la population en sensibilisant à
l’hygiène, la salubrité, les vaccinations et la régularisation des naissances. L’hôpital
se trouve à Natitingou, une agglomération semi-urbaine de 75'000 habitants, située
au nord-ouest du Bénin, à 600 kilomètres de Cotonou. Natitingou est le chef lieu du
département de l’Atacora, au cœur d’une zone de savane. L’hôpital collabore
notamment avec la coopération allemande (GIZ) et l’Ambassade d’Allemagne. Il
emploie actuellement 32 salarié-e-s et cinq bénévoles.
Les tâches principales des stagiaires seront de participer aux activités d’information,
d’éducation et de communication de l’hôpital. Ils/elles apporteront leur contribution
aux résolutions des problèmes identifiés en santé communautaire. Les participant-es découvriront les réalités du monde rural au Bénin, en particulier les problèmes
sanitaires et environnementaux. Ils/elles renforceront leurs connaissances sur les
liens qu’entretiennent santé et développement.
Des connaissances en hygiène, environnement ou programmes de vaccination
seront utiles pour ce stage. L’hôpital s’engage à trouver un logement pour les
stagiaires.
L’équipe de stagiaires sera composée d’un-e participant-e allemand-e et d’un-e
participant-e français-e.

Le Lycée Technique Agricole d’Adja-Ouèrè se trouve dans le département du
Plateau, une zone rurale du Bénin où la population vit essentiellement de
l’agriculture. En dispensant des formations agricoles, cet établissement scolaire
public contribue à l’intégration professionnelle des jeunes de la région ainsi qu’au
développement rural du pays. Le Lycée compte 90 employés et jouit de plusieurs
partenariats avec des institutions et des réseaux au Bénin et en France. En
coopération avec le Lycée Agricole des Fontaines en France, le Lycée Technique
Agricole d’Adja-Ouèrè mène actuellement un projet pour lutter contre le diabète au
Bénin.
Les stagiaires conduiront une étude sur les habitudes alimentaires et les systèmes
de production agricole dans la région. Ils/elles mèneront des enquêtes sur
l’organisation des systèmes de production, la consommation et la disponibilité des
denrées alimentaires agricoles pour les populations à faibles revenus. Après avoir
traité et analysé ces données, ils/elles émettront des propositions d’actions pour
améliorer la qualité de la nutrition dans le département du Plateau. Les participant-es auront l’opportunité de se familiariser avec les réalités agricoles, alimentaires et
sociales des populations des zones rurales.
Les participant-e-s doivent maitriser les outils d’enquête en milieu rural et posséder
des connaissances en production agricole, en nutrition, ou en sociologie, économie
ou géographie rurale. L’étude nécessite une approche pluridisciplinaire et permettra
ainsi à chacun-e des stagiaires d’apporter ses compétences. Le tandem travaillera
en coopération avec un-e stagiaire béninois-e. Le Lycée mettra à disposition des
stagiaires un espace de travail ainsi qu’un logement.

Based in the rural village of Belo - in the North West region of Cameroon - the Rural
Development Centre Association Cameroon (RUDEC) works to improve the lives of
local communities by offering health services, vocational training and education. Most
people in the region depend on agriculture for survival. RUDEC tries to offer
alternatives by empowering young people through education and by giving microcredits and trainings in income-generating skills for women. Further, RUDEC
supports orphans and local infrastructure.
The main task of the interns will be to produce a documentary film on the work of
RUDEC which can be used for marketing. The organization aims to move closer to
financial sustainability and to increase its activities in the region. The story of
RUDEC-sponsored orphans will be at the centre of the documentary, but the video
should also include other activities of RUDEC as well as the challenges the people of
the village face. To do so, the GLEN-team will accompany the RUDEC staff in all
activities such as needs assessments, school registrations, educational tasks and
health check-ups. Finally, the interns will also promote the documentary locally,
online and upon their return home.
RUDEC is a small organization with 5 staff members. The interns can count on a
personal workspace, a computer and a camera. The European participants will be
joined by a local intern. The GLEN-interns can rent a house close to the organization.
In order to carry out this internship successfully, storyboarding, filming and video
editing skills are crucial. Experience in marketing and socio-economic development is
also useful. The internship requires an outgoing personality to allow for contact with a
diverse group of individuals, from community leaders to families.
The scheduled time for the internship is 3 months between July and September
2013. Training and seminars prior to the internship will be held in English.
The tandem will be formed by a French participant and a German/Swiss participant.

Ajemalebu Self Help (Ajesh) empowers rural communities to be self-sustaining and
toreduce levels of poverty through methods promoting sustainable development. The
organization works in the South West region of Cameroon, one of the two Englishspeaking regions of the country. The region offers a wide range of natural
environments: the Atlantic Ocean, rainforests, mountains, streams, rivers and
waterfalls, making itone of the most visited regions in Cameroon.
The population is mainly engaged in food and cash crop production like cocoa,
coffee, palm-oil cassava, plantain, maize, potatoes and various grains. Timber also
plays an important role in the economy. Ajesh works with local and international
NGOs – such as Plan International, Reach Out and ICCO to foster sustainable
agriculture in the region and also offers health care and infrastructural development
to the population.
The interns will support the fundraising activities of the NGO and will provide
trainings in marketing for the local community. The workshops will be especially
directed at women and youth. The goal is to increase the income of the people
through a rise in sales. In order to do so, the interns will first carry out basic research
about the existing marketing tools.
The internship requires facilitation skills and knowledge of business management, as
well as experience in web-based marketing. Basic research skills are also necessary.
The Glen-participants should bring their own laptops for their internship.
Ajeh employs around 8 staff members and volunteers. The Glen-interns will be
provided with office space, accommodation and transportation. Through the peoplecentred approach of the organizations, the interns will be in constant contact with the
local community. The European participants will also be joined by a local intern.

Alternatives Durables pour le Développement (ADD) est une organisation
camerounaise qui œuvre dans les zones forestières du pays depuis 1997. Son
objectif est de contribuer au développement durable par l'amélioration des conditions
de vie des populations marginalisées. Elle s’engage de manière participative dans
les domaines de la gestion des ressources naturelles, de la santé communautaire,
de la gouvernance locale et de la décentralisation. ADD est basée à Mbalmayo, à
environ 50 kilomètre au sud de Yaoundé, et compte actuellement 15 employés. ADD
coopère avec de nombreuses organisations nationales et internationales.
L’organisation accueille des stagiaires GLEN chaque année depuis 2007.
Durant leur séjour, les participant-e-s identifieront les besoins des organisations
partenaires GLEN et le rôle que ces dernières souhaitent jouer dans le programme.
Ceci permettra de mieux prendre en compte les perspectives des partenaires du Sud
au sein de GLEN. Les stagiaires contribueront ainsi à améliorer et à renforcer la
collaboration entre GLEN et les partenaires au Cameroun. Les participant-e-s iront à
la rencontre d’autres stagiaires et maîtres de stage GLEN et conduiront des
entretiens. Après avoir dépouillé et analysé les données collectées, ils/elles
organiseront un atelier de capitalisation avec les acteurs clés, rédigeront un rapport
d’évaluation et élaboreront un film. Ce stage permettra aux participant-e-s de
réfléchir sur l’utilité et le rôle des stages GLEN au Sud et de l’éducation au
développement. Ils/elles auront aussi l’occasion de découvrir les réalités
quotidiennes des populations locales.
Les stagiaires doivent être familiers avec la collecte et l’analyse de données, ainsi
que les méthodes de recherche participative. Pour la réalisation du film, il est
souhaité que les stagiaires possèdent des compétences en arts visuels. ADD se
chargera de trouver un logement pour les stagiaires et leur fournira un espace de
travail. Les participant-e-s travailleront en trinôme avec un-e stagiaire camerounaise.

public de coopération intercommunale initié par les élus locaux des dix communes

communes pour une vision partagée et durable du développement participatif local.
Le SYNCONYK intervient dans les domaines de l’hydraulique, l’entretien routier, la
gestion des ressources naturelles, la promotion de l’agriculture, le développement
touristique et le renforcement des capacités des communes.
L’objectif du stage sera de participer à la définition des axes de coopération
décentralisée et de création d’emplois dans les communes du Nyong et Kellé. A cet
effet, après avoir participé à une étude exploratoire et sommaire des communes du
département, les stagiaires identifieront des opportunités de création d’emplois et de
coopération avec les communes étrangères et/ou leur groupement, les organismes
d’appui au développement ou les organisations de solidarité internationale. Enfin,
ils/elles participeront au montage d’un projet intercommunal de création d’emplois,
spécialement pour les femmes et les jeunes, ainsi qu’à la définition des stratégies
pour sa promotion et sa mise en œuvre. Les participant-e-s découvriront le potentiel
et la réalité de l’intercommunalité, du développement participatif local et de la
coopération décentralisée. Ils/elles vivront en contact étroit avec la population et se
familiariseront avec les réalités de la vie rurale.
Les participant-e-s doivent posséder des connaissances en développement rural, en
animation sociale ou en gestion de projet. Ils/elles pourront loger dans des motels ou
louer un appartement. Le SYNCONYK les soutiendra dans leur recherche.

d’intervention sont la microfinance, la santé communautaire, la décentralisation et le
développement local. L’organisation compte actuellement sept employé-e-s et un
volontaire. Depuis 2010, le SAIMED coopère avec Plan Cameroun dans la mise en
place d’Associations Villageoises d’Epargne et de Crédit (AVEC). En 2010 et 2011,
les actions du SAIMED ont rendu possible la création de 214 AVEC.
Les stagiaires appuieront l’équipe du SAIMED dans la mise en œuvre d’un
programme visant l’établissement de 20 AVEC dans la région de l’Est Cameroun.
Ils/elles appuieront la création des associations villageoises avec les populations
autochtones. Ils/elles organiseront des formations en gestion des petites entreprises,
à l’attention des femmes, et contribueront à la formation des responsables des
AVEC. Enfin, ils/elles conduiront une évaluation qualitative des AVEC. Le stage
permettra aux participant-e-s de comprendre le rôle et le potentiel de la microfinance
et de l’approche genre dans la lutte contre la pauvreté. Les participant-e-s auront
l’occasion d’être en contact direct avec les populations autochtones Baka.
Les participant-e-s devront posséder des connaissances en économie, en
développement rural, ainsi qu’en gestion et comptabilité. Le SAIMED mettra un
espace de travail à disposition des stagiaires et les aidera à trouver un logement.
Les frais de transport lors du stage devront être pris en charge par les stagiaires.
La période de réalisation du stage est de début juillet à fin septembre 2013. Les

Le Centre des Ressources Agroforestières, Forestières et la Formation Continue
(CERAF) intervient dans les domaines de la gestion durable des ressources
naturelles, de la gouvernance locale et de la santé communautaire au Sud
Cameroun. L’équipe du CERAF est composée de huit personnes, dont la plupart
sont volontaires. L’organisation contribue au développement rural par des actions de
sensibilisation et d’éducation auprès des populations les plus vulnérables. Elle
participe également à la mise en place de projets de développement par des activités
de conseil et d’appui technique. Le CERAF est basé dans le village de
Ngoulémakong, une zone forestière où la majorité de la population recourt à la
médecine traditionnelle. Les plantes, et en particulier les arbres, constituent la base
des médicaments utilisés. En raison de la demande importante sur les marchés,
certaines espèces utilisées pour la médecine traditionnelle sont surexploitées, voire
menacées de disparition. Dans ce contexte, la protection de la biodiversité constitue
une priorité pour le CERAF.
Le stage aura pour objectif de valoriser la médecine traditionnelle tout en préservant
les écosystèmes forestiers de la zone de Ngoulémakong. Les participant-e-s
identifieront les espèces végétales les plus utilisées pour la médecine traditionnelle,
ainsi que leurs vertus curatives et leur posologie. Ils/elles élaboreront un répertoire et
établiront, dans le parc à bois du CERAF, une micro-pépinière regroupant ces
plantes médicinales. Les stagiaires iront à la rencontre des médecins traditionnels et
découvriront les réalités quotidiennes des populations rurales.
Pour ce stage, il est important que les participant-e-s apprécient la vie en milieu rural.
Le CERAF aidera les stagiaires à trouver un logement.

Le Centre de Développement Endogène SAARE (CDE-SAARE) œuvre pour le
développement socio-économique du Nord-Cameroun depuis la ville de Maroua. Le
centre est actif dans des domaines très divers ; il travaille notamment au
renforcement des capacités dans l’éducation, la culture et la pédagogie. Plus
généralement, le CDE-SAARE sert d’appui aux organismes de développement. Il est
à l’origine de la création de deux bibliothèques. L’organisation accueille des
stagiaires GLEN depuis 2008. Alors que la jeunesse constitue une catégorie
importante de la population au Cameroun, les jeunes sont souvent désœuvrés
pendant les vacances à cause du manque de structures et de programmes
d’encadrement.
Les stagiaires animeront un programme de formation pour des enfants et
adolescents de 5 à 18 ans. Ils/elles organiseront en fonction de leurs intérêts propres
et en dialogue avec l’organisation des cours de soutien, des séances de lecture, des
formations à l’informatique, des cours de cuisine et des jeux à l’attention des jeunes.
Ils/elles contribueront à l’animation d’ateliers de musique, de dessin ou de danse. De
plus, les stagiaires pourront participer à des manifestations culturelles dans la ville. Il
s’agira d’occuper les jeunes pendant trois mois et de les sensibiliser à l’importance
de la culture, d’une alimentation saine et équilibrée, et des outils de technologies de
l’information et de communication (TIC). Par leurs activités quotidiennes, les
stagiaires seront en contact permanent avec des jeunes de la région.
Des compétences en animation de groupes de jeunes sont nécessaires pour ce
stage. Les participant-e-s devront faire preuve d’un esprit de dialogue et
d’observation. Les stagiaires seront hébergés à Maroua et le CDE-SAARE mettra
une chambre à leur disposition.

L’organisation Action pour un Développement Equitable Intégré et Durable (ADEID)
vise à améliorer le niveau de vie de la population des zones rurales de la région de
l’Ouest Cameroun tout en protégeant l’environnement. Basée à Bafoussam, l’ADEID
mène des activités dans les domaines de la conservation environnementale, la
promotion des micro-entreprises, l’agriculture durable et les énergies renouvelables.
Créée en 1990, l’organisation a travaillé en partenariat avec Misereor et l’Union
Européenne dans le développement des énergies hydraulique, solaire et éolienne.
Huit centrales d’énergie hydraulique ont été installées dans les communautés.
L’équipe d’ADEID est constituée de 16 personnes et l’organisation accueille
régulièrement des stagiaires camerounais et européens.
La tâche principale des stagiaires sera d’appuyer l’ADEID dans l’organisation de
formations et d’ateliers. Ils/elles développeront avec l’ADEID des stratégies politiques
et sociales pour renforcer l’économie verte à l’échelle régionale et nationale. Ils/elles
développeront des projets locaux qui viseront à dynamiser l’économie verte dans la
région. Une activité concrète des stagiaires sera de créer un manuel sur la mise en
œuvre de projets d’économie verte à l’attention des autorités. Les participant-e-s
accompagneront également les projets d’énergies renouvelables de l’ADEID et
auront l’occasion de visiter les sites des projets.
Les stagiaires devront posséder des connaissances en économie et politique et/ou
en agronomie. L’organisation mettra à disposition des participant-e-s un espace de

L’agence Eau et Assainissement pour l’Afrique (EAA) est une institution
intergouvernementale qui regroupe 22 pays membres d’Afrique de l’Ouest et
Centrale. La représentation nationale d’EAA au Cameroun, créée en 2006, est
devenue un interlocuteur privilégié des autorités locales et nationales. Elle a pour
mission de promouvoir l’accès durable à l’eau potable et aux services
d’assainissement de base, ainsi que l’amélioration de l’hygiène des populations des
zones rurales et périurbaines et des villes secondaires. L’équipe de la représentation
d’EAA au Cameroun est constituée de onze personnes. EAA collabore avec de
nombreux partenaires techniques et financiers et diverses organisations
internationales. En partenariat avec l’organisation canadienne CAWST, EAA au
Cameroun met en œuvre un projet pour promouvoir le filtre BioSable pour le
traitement de l’eau à domicile.
Le stage vise à développer un réseau regroupant des villages souhaitant installer le
Filtre BioSable. Ce réseau permettra de promouvoir les filtres et de les rendre
accessibles à un plus grand nombre de personnes. Dans un premier temps, les
stagiaires prendront contact avec les organisations et les villages qui ont déjà été
impliqués dans l’installation de filtres, et enquêteront sur les besoins d'autres villages
intéressés par l'installation de filtres. Ils/elles établiront ensuite une liste de contacts
complète indiquant les lieux où des filtres ont déjà été installés et où ils doivent être
installés à l’avenir. Les participant-e-s auront l’occasion de visiter les sites
d’installation des filtres et auront un aperçu de la situation sanitaire des zones rurales
et des besoins des populations.
Des méthodes de communication interactives et des connaissances de base en
biologie seront utiles pour ce stage, notamment pour expliquer le fonctionnement du
filtre BioSable. Les participant-e-s pourront loger dans des familles ou louer un
appartement.

renforce les capacités des populations afin qu’elles puissent participer activement au
développement. La démarche de l’AERPROID est fondée sur l’approche
participative, la concertation et la collaboration avec les différents acteurs de
développement. Créée en 2007, l’association est basée dans la ville de Ndikiniméki,
dans la région du Centre du Cameroun. L’AERPROID collabore avec de nombreuses
organisations camerounaises et internationales. Elle compte actuellement deux
employés et trois bénévoles.
Le thème du stage concerne le développement organisationnel et institutionnel des
organisations paysannes et communautaires. Les stagiaires contribueront à identifier
des stratégies pour améliorer les conditions de vie des producteurs agro- pastoraux
à travers la professionnalisation de leur activité. Ils/elles réaliseront des diagnostics
institutionnels des organisations paysannes partenaires de l’AERPROID. Sur cette
base, ils/elles élaboreront deux projets, l’un sur le développement organisationnel et
institutionnel des groupements paysans, et l’autre sur l’entrepreneuriat agricole. Les
participant-e-s visiteront des exploitations agricoles et seront en contact direct avec
les organisations paysannes de la région. Ainsi, ils/elles se familiariseront avec les
réalités du développement rural.
Pour ce stage, les participant-e-s doivent maîtriser les techniques d’enquête socioéconomique. Ils/elles doivent posséder des connaissances en développement
institutionnel ou en production agro-pastorale. L’association mettra un bureau à
disposition des stagiaires et les aidera à trouver un logement. Les participant-e-s

Arba Minch is a city in southern Ethiopia in the area of the Great Rift Valley Lakes.
The city has around 92,000 inhabitants. It is home to the Arba Minch University, one
of the leading universities in the field of science and engineering in Ethiopia. Besides
offering public education, the university also conducts research and community
services.The Arba Minch University is a partner in the EU-funded CLARA project
(Capacity-Linked water supply and sanitation improvement for Africa’s peri-urban and
Rural Areas). The GLEN-intern will support the research activities within the CLARA
project with the main objective of bringing wider access to proper sanitation and
water supply for the local population.
The interns will assist in conducting research to improve the operation and
maintenance of urine diverting dry toilets (UDDTs). The interns will therefore visit
households with UDDTs, assess their use and conduct interviews. Furthermore, they
will sample and analyse toilet content. Finally, the GLEN-participants will write a
report including recommendations on how to improve the use of UDDTs in the
region. The interns will be working with a young group which has hosted GLENparticipants several times. Working in the university laboratories, the interns will also
get the chance to meet university students and share experiences.
For this internship, prior knowledge or experience in resources oriented sanitation,
especially urine diverting dry sanitation toilets, is an advantage. Some skills in basic
computing (e.g. Excel) are required. Knowledge in surveying questionnaires and
experience in laboratory methods are very welcome.

The Ethiopian Women Exporter’s Association (EWEA) is a membership organization
of export-oriented business women in Addis Ababa. The chief aim is to strengthen
their selling capacity. Currently the association has 41 active members from five
different sectors: coffee, flowers, textile, leather and handicraft jewellery. A future
objective is to expand the number of companies within these sectors, but also to add
new sectors such as food and spices.
EWEA member companies include small and middle-sized enterprises, which usually
function on Fair Trade and social principles. EWEA cooperates both with government
as well as civil society bodies such as ministries, grassroots organizations and
development agencies.
The overall goal of the GLEN internship is to support EWEA members in enhancing
their business and strengthening their export capacities. This will be done in two
ways - on the one hand, GLEN interns will work with EWEA to improve the financial
situation of the organization so that EWEA is able to offer more trainings and
participation in international trade fairs for its members. The other important part of
the internship will be the organization of events to enhance the popularity of the
member companies. On the other hand, GLEN interns will work directly with the
member companies and help them to improve their business by means of various
marketing activities and web design, depending on the needs of the companies.
Other tasks for interns include doing market research on export standards,
maintaining the EWEA website, setting up a database, preparing promotional
materials and providing general IT support.
Interns should have a background in business administration or related fields,
especially in the NGO sector. Experience in project management, event organization,
marketing and fundraising is desirable. One of the participants should have a
background in web design or IT and SEO/ SMO. It would also be helpful if interns
brought their own computers with them. EWEA values a proactive approach and is
open to new ideas.

Lake Tana is the source of the Blue Nile and the largest lake in Ethiopia. Located in
the north western Ethiopian Highlands, the area is rich with unique habitats like
wetlands and remnant forests as well as a rich flora and fauna.
The German-based Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union (NABU) dedicates
its work towards the conservation of natural habitats and the strengthening of civil
society. One of its projects promotes the establishment of the Lake Tana UNESCO
Biosphere Reserve (BR). To implement UNESCO’s BR concept, the organization
supports the sustainable use of the local natural resources in the area and promotes
eco-tourism, natural product marketing and climate smart agriculture.
The aim of this internship is to develop a concept and an action plan to support and
promote green initiatives in the local town Bahir Dar in order to turn it into a green
model city in Ethiopia. Interns will assess existing green initiatives, interactively
conceptualize new options and create an action plan. They will also promote the
project and communicate with relevant stakeholders. The GLEN-participants will
keep track of their work by writing a report. Before leaving for Ethiopia, the interns will
become familiar with the target area and the project structure at NABU’s headquarter
in Berlin.
This internship requires experience in urban planning/management and in
implementing local green initiatives. Ideally the interns also have knowledge in the
area of tourism, waste and transport management. Skills in drafting project
proposals, city master plans and business plans would be an asset. The GLENparticipants further need fluency in English, good communication skills and openmindedness. The interns should bring their own computers.

The Embracing Hidden Talents Network (EHTN) works in two main locations in
Ghana: the Weija Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, and the Ahanta West
District in the Western Region. People in both regions live mostly from fishing,
farming, stone quarrying and tourism. Educational levels among the villagers are
generally low and the average income is less than two US dollars a day. Recently,
teenage pregnancies, prostitution, HIV/AIDS, airborne diseases and environmental
pollution have been on the rise. The communities have little health or educational
facilities.
In order to combat some of these challenges, EHTN offers workshops to create
awareness about human rights and environmental issues. It aims to empower
communities through educational support and health care services. The organisation
also promotes education for females and anti- child labour strategies and produces
television documentaries to encourage intercultural relationships and good moral
practices.
The GLEN-participants will get involved in the environmental section of EHTN. As a
first step before arriving in Ghana, interns will research the benefits of waste
management and its effects on small communities in order to better analyse the
situation once they are on site. They will then hold workshops in schools based on
their findings. The goal of these workshops is to motivate young people to become
environmental watchdogs along their beaches and to separate and reuse waste. A
local intern might join the GLEN-participants. The interns will also teach children
about the possible spread of diseases. If successful, this pilot project will be
extended to other communities.
Interns require an environmental studies background or experience in environmental
awareness research or campaigning. Experience in social work or journalism with a
focus on environmental awareness projects is also welcome.

The Ashanti region lies at the centre of Ghana and is its most populated one. The
main income source is agriculture and commerce. Kumasi is the capital of the region
and located close to Lake Bosomtwi, situated within an ancient meteorite impact
crater. The Ashanti region also includes forests and wildlife sanctuaries.
Located in Kumasi, Young People We Care (YPWC) is encompassing the idea of
Global Education to foster youth participation and societal change. Through
Development Education Clubs in schools, young people are taught the necessary
tools to engage the general population in better ways of dealing with societal
challenges. In collaboration with European organizations, some of the students are
able to join international exchange programmes. The organization uses media to
spread alternative ideas on community development and actively engages in public
debates on topics like education, migration and employment. YPWC collaborates
with many international organizations like World Vision and UNICEF Rural Voices.
The idea behind one of YPWC’s projects is to create jobs and income through waste
management. Therefore, the interns will first carry out a survey on the possibilities of
turning plastic waste into a productive venture. Then, the interns will write a report on
the issue as well as present policy recommendations. At the same time, interns
should support YPWC in their daily activities according to their own interests. The
GLEN-participants will be supported by a local intern.
This internship requires good oral and written communication skills as well as
experience in data management and analysis. The interns should have basic
computer skills. An independent, proactive working style is desirable. Finally, the
GLEN-participants should enjoy working with youth.
The team of GLEN-participants will be formed by an Hungarian participant, an

La filière palmier comme moteur du développement rural
en Guinée

Action de Démarrage Alternatif (ADA) œuvre pour l’éducation des adultes et des

Guinée. ADA compte actuellement huit salarié-e-s et six stagiaires. Le siège de
l’organisation se trouve dans la préfecture de Forécariah, à une centaine de
kilomètres de la capitale, Conakry. Les quelque 200'000 habitants de Forécariah
vivent essentiellement de l’agriculture. Un peu moins de la moitié de la population vit
en dessous du seuil de pauvreté. Pour la période 2011-2013, ADA met en œuvre un
projet intitulé « appui à l’autopromotion des organisations communautaires de base /
éducation des adultes et des jeunes de Forécariah ».
Dans le cadre de ce projet, les stagiaires réaliseront une étude sur la filière palmier à
Forécariah. Ils/elles analyseront le rôle que la filière palmier peut jouer dans les
communautés et son apport pour l’économie de la région. Les stagiaires mèneront
des enquêtes sur la filière palmier auprès de la population et analyseront la
rentabilité économique du palmier. A travers leur travail sur le terrain, les participante-s seront en contact direct avec la population rurale. Ils/elles auront également
l’occasion de participer aux activités quotidiennes d’ADA.
Les participant-e-s doivent être familiers avec les méthodes de recherche en
sciences sociales, et posséder des connaissances en économie et en gestion. Une
expérience dans l’éducation des adultes et des jeunes et dans l’animation rurale
constitue un atout. ADA mettra à disposition des stagiaires un espace de travail et
des motocyclettes, et leur fournira un logement. Un-e stagiaire guinéen-ne travaillera
avec les participant-e-s durant toute la durée du stage et assurera la traduction.

Protéger la biodiversité et systématiser l’élevage pour
dynamiser les actions de développement rural

L’Assistance au Développement Communautaire et Associatif (ADECOMA) est une
organisation guinéenne active dans la préfecture de Mali. Créée en 1993, elle
compte actuellement plus de 160 adhérents et son secrétariat général est constitué
de sept membres. L’ADECOMA travaille avec les collectivités décentralisées sur des
thèmes tels que l’alimentation, le logement, la santé, les communications, la
formation ou l’emploi. En coopération avec Weltfriedensdienst e.V. (WFD), une
organisation allemande, l’ADECOMA met en œuvre un projet intitulé « Appui à la
reforestation et à la sécurité alimentaire à Mali » (ARSAMA). La troisième phase du
projet a été initiée en 2011 et s’étale sur trois ans. Ce projet vise à réduire la
pauvreté dans la préfecture de Mali, située au nord de la Guinée, à 540 kilomètres
de Conakry. 85% de la population de Mali est rurale et vit essentiellement de
l’agriculture.
Les stagiaires travailleront dans le cadre du projet ARSAMA. Ils/elles contribueront à
des activités de protection et de renforcement de la biodiversité locale. Ils/elles
appuieront également la systématisation de l’élevage par la valorisation de nouvelles
filières. Les participant-e-s travailleront avec les conseillers du projet et seront en
contact régulier avec les populations rurales.
Les stagiaires doivent disposer de connaissances en protection de l’environnement
et de la biodiversité, en santé/nutrition, en techniques agricoles et d’élevage durables
ainsi qu’en planification/suivi-évaluation. Il est souhaité qu’il/elles maîtrisent les outils
de planification, de recherche, du diagnostic participatif et de capitalisation des
acquis. L’ADECOMA mettra à disposition des stagiaires un espace de travail à Mali
et les aidera à trouver un logement.

La Fédération des Apiculteurs et Intervenants de la filière miel et cire de Guinée
(FAPI-Guinée) est une organisation socioprofessionnelle créée sur la base d’une
cinquantaine de groupements d’apiculteurs. Ses objectifs sont la représentation et la
défense des intérêts de ses membres, ainsi que l’augmentation du revenu de ses
adhérents. FAPI-Guinée cherche à lutter de façon durable contre la pauvreté par la
pratique d’une apiculture respectueuse de la biodiversité et de l’environnement.
Fondée en mai 2002, la fédération est basée à Labé. Elle est active en Moyenne et
Basse Guinée, dans les régions administratives de Labé, Maou, Kindia et Boké.
Elle compte actuellement 25 Unions de groupements d’apiculteurs créés sur la base
de la loi L014 ;127 groupements d’apiculteurs isolés non formalisés en union ;et 3
groupements d’artisans (Menuisiers, Tailleurs et Ferblantiers) spécialisés dans la
production du matériel et outillages apicoles (ruches kenyanes, tenues de protection,
enfumoirs, moules à cire, lève cadre,……..). L'effectif total de FAPI-Guinée est de
5301 membres adhérents. 25 personnes travaillent actuellement pour la fédération.
L’objectif du stage est d’améliorer les bases de données de la fédération. Ceci
permettra à la FAPI-Guinée d’optimiser le système de commercialisation de ses
produits et d’écouler les produits de ses membres sur le marché équitable. Les
stagiaires établiront des statistiques fiables de la production de miel de la fédération.
Ils/elles élaboreront des fiches d’enquêtes puis collecteront les informations sur le
terrain, dans 12 unions de groupements. De retour à Labé, ils/elles analyseront et
centraliseront les données recueillies. Grâce aux visites dans les villages, les
participant-e-s pourront partager la vie de la population et se confronter aux réalités
locales.
Il est important que les participant-e-s disposent de connaissances de base en
statistique et en apiculture. Ils/elles devront être prêt-e-s à travailler en milieu rural.
Les stagiaires apporteront, si possible, leur propre ordinateur portable. FAPI-Guinée
aidera les participant-e-s à trouver un logement à Labé. Dans les villages, ils/elles
pourront loger dans des familles d’accueil.
La période de réalisation du stage est de 3 mois entre début juillet et début octobre
2013. Les séminaires précédant le stage auront lieu en français.

Kenya’s capital Nairobi is home to almost three million people. Mathare is an area in
the eastern part of the city where about 500,000 people live. The area fights
problems of environmental degradation, lack of sanitation and high levels of crime.
The Mathare Youth Sport Association (MYSA) was established in 1987. One of the
main tools MYSA uses for community development is football. Today, it reaches up
to 20,000 people with its various activities including community cleanup, community
outreach, dancing and music as well as film and photography training (Shootback
program).The main purpose of MYSA is to give the Mathare youth a chance for
personal and social development through sport and cultural activities.
The GLEN internship has two main goals. First, interns will teach film and
photography skills to the kids and youth participating in the Shootback classes. The
content of the classes will depend on the experience of the interns (script writing,
animation, book production, documentary making or the use of new media and the
internet). These classes usually take place on weekends in one of the MYSA centres.
Therefore, interns will get a chance to visit different areas of the city. The second
goal is to support the daily Shootback activities like producing commissioned
material, networking, administration as well as preparing events.
The interns should be specialized in film (directing, camera work, production and
editing), graphic design and photography - both digital and analogue, knowledge of
using a dark room would be an asset. Experience in PR, marketing and fundraising is
also important. The GLEN-participants require teaching skills and creativity in order
to develop activities for kids which are both entertaining and educative in the field of
understanding visual media. Interns should bring a laptop (ideally with editing
programs) as well as their own cameras.

Kibera Slum is home to one quarter of Nairobi’s total population. It is composed of
ten main villages. Young people form the largest part of this population, yet they
remain at the periphery of decision-making and are excluded from the design,
planning and implementation of important programs. Only 25% of youth are absorbed
into the job market. Statistics indicate that youth make up approximately 33% of
those infected with HIV/AIDS.
Amani Kibera (AK) is a youth-led organization supporting peace making, conflict
management and education for development in Kibera. AK aims to create a peaceful,
healthy and active society through the power of value-based sports, cultural
interaction and education. AK has a library and a resource centre giving children the
opportunity to do their homework. The UWEZO empowerment program focuses on
providing a space especially for girls to discuss issues affecting them. There is also
an annual AK peace soccer tournament. All AK projects are designed and
implemented with full involvement of the Kibera community youth and other important
stakeholders.
The internship is geared towards strengthening the UWEZO program. UWEZO is a
Swahili word meaning “able” or “ability”. The project’s aims are to increase
confidence and self-esteem of Kibera girls through participation in income-generating
activities like bead making and to get school drop-outs back into school. The money
generated from UWEZO goes towards buying girls’ personal items and school
equipment. The GLEN-participants will market UWEZO products and provide lifeskills/entrepreneurship and basic IT training to the participants. Interns will also
fundraise and do public relations work for AK and participate in other daily activities.
Part of the work will also be to do home-visits.
This internship requires facilitation skills and experience in working with young
people. Knowledge of business management and entrepreneurship as well as ITskills are also necessary. Experience in sports management and development are an
asset. GLEN-participants are asked to bring their own laptops.

The social stigma of HIV/AIDS keeps many people in rural villages in Kenya from
getting counselling and treatment, a reason for the further spread of the disease
among adults and children. HIV prevalence in the western province of Kenya is 6.6%
(national average 6.3%). The HIV prevalence is higher among women (8.0%) than
men (4.3%). HIV/AIDS is enhanced by drug use, lack of education and high rates of
unemployment as well as cultural practises such as polygamy, widow/widower
remarriages and sexual cleansing.
Working within the frame of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), the Western
Focus Community Organisation (WEFOCO) promotes community development in
Shianda village. The organization combines the work of young people with over 15
womens’ groups in several areas, who want to improve the lives of the people in their
villages. WEFOCO offers seminars, education and is engaged in raising AIDS
awareness. It also supports orphans and other vulnerable children. In the field of
HIV/AIDS, the organization is active in care, nutritional programs for children and
human rights advocacy. WEFOCO puts special focus on anti-stigma campaigns.
The GLEN-interns will support the HIV/AIDS program of WEFOCO by supporting the
different self-help groups. They will also encourage the creation of new groups and
document the challenges and advancements. Further, interns will carry out
awareness raising campaigns in the village to combat stigmatization and
discrimination. They will also support the testing and counselling activities of the
organization.
For these tasks, interns need knowledge of HIV/AIDS and in the general field of
health care. Experience in social work is also required. The GLEN-participants
should be able to work independently. Experience in project management and
leadership would be an asset.

l’apprentissage dans les écoles du pays. Les activités de SchoolNet Madagascar
concernent les niveaux de l’éducation primaire et secondaire. L’organisation est
basée à Antananarivo, la capitale, et collabore avec un réseau d’établissements
scolaires, ainsi que différentes institutions privées et publiques. SchoolNet
Madagascar compte une dizaine de membres bénévoles.
L’objectif du stage est de promouvoir l’intégration pédagogique des TIC dans les
écoles de Madagascar. Les stagiaires soutiendront un réseau d’écoles dans
l’exploitation pédagogique des outils informatiques et travailleront en étroite

According to UNICEF, primary school enrolment in Morocco has been consistently
rising since 2000. However, gender and social inequalities persist in parts of the
country, particularly in rural areas which still face lacking supplies. The Forum
Communication of Cultures (FCC) is a non-profit organization trying to fill the gaps of
formal education with complementary teaching offers.
FCC focuses on community development through promoting volunteerism in
Morocco. The organization’s headquarters is located in Rabat, with a branch in Ain
Khalouia, a suburb of Rabat. FCC enhances cultural exchange between Moroccan
nationals and international volunteers. The organization believes that such
encounters play an important role in community development. The goal of the
volunteering program is to offer the local community intercultural experiences and
educational opportunities. The program also strengthens environmental awareness
through workshops focusing on sustainability.
The GLEN-participants will teach French and English to children with little access to
foreign language learning. Another goal of the internship will be to raise awareness
on waste management and environmental protection. Interns should also create after
school activities for the local children. The content of these activities will vary
according to the experience of the interns and can include gardening, painting,
recycling etc. Interns will be accommodated in the village and get an opportunity to
live in a Muslim community.
For this internship, participants need to have previous experience working with kids,
especially language teaching. Working in rural areas can also be a useful
experience. Interns should be proactive, creative and artistic in order to develop good
ideas for workshops. The participants don’t need to be professional but enthusiastic.

La Coopération technique allemande (GIZ) au Maroc met en œuvre les projets de
coopération bilatérale entre les deux pays. Le Maroc est un pays prioritaire pour la
Coopération allemande et la GIZ y est présente depuis 1975. Ses domaines
d’activités sont l’environnement, le développement économique et l’emploi, la
gouvernance et la démocratie, ainsi que le développement social. La GIZ conduit
actuellement un projet qui appuie le gouvernement marocain dans sa politique
d’adaptation au changement climatique et de valorisation de la biodiversité. Ce projet
se déroule en partenariat avec le Ministère de l’énergie, des mines, de l’eau et de
l’environnement. Cinq employés de la GIZ travaillent à la mise en œuvre de ce
projet. Les bureaux de la GIZ au Maroc se trouvent à Rabat.
Durant le stage, les participant-e-s travailleront dans le cadre du projet d’appui à la
politique d’adaptation au changement climatique. Ils/elles contribueront à
l’organisation d’ateliers et de formations, établiront des rapports, des réunions de
projet et participeront aux ateliers de planification. Les stagiaires auront l’occasion
d’effectuer des missions sur le terrain et seront en contact régulier avec la
population. Le stage permettra aux stagiaires de se familiariser avec le travail de la

Quartiers du Monde est une association française de solidarité internationale qui a
pour objectif la promotion de la gouvernance participative. Cinq professionnels
travaillent pour l’association, dont trois à Rabat, au Maroc, une à Paris et une à
Bruxelles. Quartiers du Monde coordonne et anime un réseau d’associations établi
en 2003 qui regroupe 14 quartiers populaires de neuf villes d’Amérique latine,
d’Afrique et d’Europe. L’association organise tous les deux ans le Forum
international des jeunes des quartiers populaires du monde. Ce Forum est un espace
de dialogue et de réflexion animé par et pour les jeunes issus de quartiers populaires
du Sud et du Nord. La troisième édition du Forum aura lieu du 25 au 27 octobre 2013
à Salé, au Maroc. Les thèmes identifiés pour cette édition sont les migrations, les
politiques publiques, les mouvements sociaux, et l’égalité des sexes.
Les stagiaires contribueront à la préparation et à la réalisation du troisième Forum
international des jeunes. Les trois principales activités du stage consisteront en
l’aménagement d’un terrain vague sur les lieux du Forum, l’élaboration de matériel
audiovisuel pour des ateliers, et l’intégration de l’approche du genre dans le travail
de groupe. Les participant-e-s partageront le quotidien de jeunes issus de cultures
diverses et travailleront en étroite collaboration avec eux. Ils/elles auront ainsi
l’occasion d’échanger sur des thématiques telles que la justice sociale ou la
participation citoyenne des jeunes.
Des connaissances en aménagement, urbanisme et environnement, en audiovisuel
et communication, ou en sciences humaines et études de genre sont nécessaires
pour ce stage. En outre, les stagiaires devront être familiers avec les méthodes de

Economic Empowerment for the Women of Chididi

In the southern most district of Malawi, Nsanje, close to the Mozambican border lies
Chididi. SURCOD is a grassroots NGO working to empower women in this region.
Aside from helping the women creating savings schemes, the organization also
works with local leaders to raise the status of women by advocating against forced
marriage and child labour. The organization further works on sensitization campaigns
on health, sanitation, environmental and human rights topics.
The interns will support the organization in their community work, which mainly
addresses women. Teaching women saving, capital building and entrepreneurship
are at the centre of this project with the goal to improve the socio-economic situation
of families in the community. The interns will encourage knowledge sharing among
women and supervise the saving groups. Towards the end of the internship, the
GLEN-participants will submit a proposal for future programs for SURCOD and
including fundraising opportunities.
For this internship, an interest in microfinance, group loan programs and social
entrepreneurship is crucial. Experience with participatory learning is desirable.
Interns should be proactive and responsible. The GLEN-participants will be
interacting with the community as well as staff members on a daily basis. Interns
should bring their computers for research tasks. The NGO will help the interns find an
accommodation.
The scheduled time for the internship is 3 months between July and October 2013.

Soil for Life (SFL) aims to significantly improve the economic and nutritional status of
individuals and communities living in poverty in the Cape Town area. They do this by
educating and training people in low-input, organic food gardening using water
wisely, and applying low-cost, environment-friendly technologies in order to maximize
the production of vegetables, fruits and herbs. SFL also runs trainings on income
generating skills and environmental protection.
Interns are required to support SFL in promoting more energy-efficient, environmentfriendly standards. This will involve doing an assessment of opportunities for
environmental efficiency in the region. Interns will then offer workshops on simple
energy-saving tricks and technologies (solar cooking, recycling, compost power
technologies, vertical gardening etc.) that both SLF and the people in the township
can use. Another project interns will be involved in is reducing SFL’s administrative
red tape by streamlining their monitoring and evaluation process and creating a
database. The main task of this project will be piloting culturally sensitive monitoring
and evaluation tools in the townships with SFL trainees. The GLEN-participants will
then detail the findings in a report.
Experience in working with or studying energy conservation and/or recycling
technologies, engineering, building, environmental science and training are required.
Further, an understanding of community-building processes and ways to effectively
communicate with a diverse array of people from different cultural backgrounds is
necessary. The internship also requires IT-knowledge and skills in databasing, data
capturing, research, monitoring and evaluation. It would be useful for the interns to
bring their own computer.

The Cape Flats of Cape Town, South Africa, are largely populated by economic
refugees from previous Apartheid homelands. The number of new arrivals in Cape
Town is officially estimated to be 1200 families per month. Between 30 and 40 per
cent of Cape Town inhabitants are unemployed. Abalimi Bezekhaya (AB) – which
means ‘farmers of home’ - works to empower disadvantaged people in this area
through urban gardening and micro-farming projects. AB attempts to alleviate poverty
and create self-employment by growing food using organic methods and planting
native flora at home and in community gardens. Backyard and community allotment
gardening provides an affordable way to produce food for a family, but also the
opportunity for small businesses to enter the market.
The main task of the interns will be to complete and publish the organization's
newsletter which allows them to get to know all different programs of AB. However,
according to their talents and interests, they are also invited to plan and implement
their own projects and participate in existing ones. Their tasks can include any of the
following: crisis and problem solving, systems development, marketing, driving and
deliveries, monitoring, data collection, administration support, research to increase
yields, adapting various planting methods and report writing – in short: interns should
be prepared to do whatever is necessary to support the work of Abalimi.
Above all, AB expects interns to be flexible, independent and open-minded. GLENparticipants need a very high level of English language skills and a driving license to
participate in this project. Interns should also have good command of computers and
experience in data processing, public relations and possibly fundraising. Project
planning and management aptitude and/or skills are essential. Finally, interns should
have experience in organic gardening.

With a population of 3.4 million, Cape Town is the second largest city in South Africa.
The herbal biodiversity of its surroundings is so high, that the Cape Region is
specified as of one of the world's six “Floral Kingdoms”.
Founded in 1997, the Environmental Resource Management Department's (ERMD)
task is to lead the implementation of the City's Integrated Metropolitan Environmental
Policy (IMEP) and adhere to the principles of environmental sustainability. Cape
Town has committed itself to a range of sustainability targets linked to the UNEP
Urban Environmental Accords. The department focuses on fourth main issues:
Biodiversity, Energy and Climate Change, Coastal Zone Management and
Environmental Education and Training.
The interns will support the work of the ERM department as research assistants
(internet research, interviews and field visits) in all four focus areas of the
department. The GLEN-participants will also work on developing a sustainable city
programme, which focuses on building resilience (both social and through healthy
ecosystems) as well as promoting community wellbeing. Further potential projects for
the interns will be preparing the World Design Capital period of 2014, preparing the
bid for Cape Town to host the Biological Diversity COP 13 in 2016 and working on
the Climate Smart Cape Town campaign.
Interns should be interested and engaged in the following topics: biodiversity, climate
change, renewable energy, eco-mobility and community wellbeing. The participants
should also possess openness, research, analytical and presentation skills and
experience in the field of urban environmentalism. They should be able to work
autonomously. Some knowledge of conducting social surveys would be an
advantage.

The South African Education and Environment Project (SAEP) is a non-profit
organisation that aims to educate, inspire and empower disadvantaged young people
to take charge of their futures. It envisions a South Africa where every child has the
education and inspiration to do great things.
SAEP's Early Childhood Development Programme aims to increase access to and
quality of early childhood care and education. Through mentorship, training and
infrastructural upgrades, it empowers principals and staff to develop under-resourced
educare centres into sustainable education providers. The programme currently
partners with 10 centres.
While some township educare centres operate as functional schools, many are
overcrowded where 60 children and two adults share a room the size of a shipping
crate. Women who start ECD centres-sometimes in their own living rooms-often lack
the education, skills and confidence to successfully run a centre. Many underresourced centres function as little more than "holding pens" for children.
Without government support, centres struggle to fund daily operations. However, in
order to be eligible for subsidies, they have to meet minimum requirements in
infrastructure, financial management, curriculum and teacher training. External
assistance gives educare centres resources they might never obtain on their own to
make these upgrades and build a foundation for self-sufficiency.

centres.
For this internship, experience with participatory methods and adult education are
desired. An independent working attitude is required as well as management skills
and initiative. Interns should also be able to drive a manual car on the left side of the
road.

Dar es Salaam is one of the world's fastest growing cities. The economic hub and
political center of Tanzania is home to the main office of the Tanzania Handicraft
Association (TanCraft). TanCraft supports small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in
the handicrafts sector by organizing trade fairs, facilitating exports, accessing grants
etc. The organization reunites more than 300 artisans from across the country of
which 95% are women. Through its work, TanCraft empowers families to generate
income and employment.
Interns will get to know the artisans and in responding to their needs and wishes,
implement diverse workshops. These classes will focus on developing new products
and designs as well as on business and management. The core idea is to give the
member enterprises tools and skills to improve their working structure and products.
Interns should put a strong focus on the use of recycled materials not only to
save costs, but also to create an awareness of the waste problem and the saleability
of such products in Europe. The GLEN-participants should also help set up blogs,
social media accounts and other online-marketing platforms which facilitate
marketing, fundraising and cooperation.
Accordingly, one intern should have knowledge of business and marketing or have
experience with entrepreneurial activities. The other intern should have knowledge of
product or fashion design and/or should have worked as a designer or artisan. The
GLEN-participants should have experience in conducting workshops. Knowledge of
the European handicraft market and working with recycled materials would be
appreciated. Furthermore, Kiswahili language skills are desirable for this internship.

In Tanzania, people with disabilities can be met with prejudice, exclusion and
discrimination. Awareness-raising and education for mentally handicapped people
started in 1981 but the services are still limited as only few regions have set up
special education units for mentally handicapped children. Vocational Training
centres are rare and in rural areas they do not exist at all.
Morogoro is a region in the Southern highlands of Tanzania with a population of more
than 200,000. The region is one of the national food reservoirs and a centre for
agriculture. Rice, maize, tropical fruit and vegetables are grown in Morogoro.
The Society of Mentally Handicapped Youths (MEHAYO) offers care and support to
disabled and other disadvantaged children and youth. The organization trains the
youth in practical life skills, health related issues as well as involving them in income
generating activities and entrepreneurship classes to empower them for a selfdefined and independent life.
The GLEN-participants will give training to the children and youth in areas like art and
crafts, games, music and dancing. Interns are welcome to suggest activities. Each
intern will also have special responsibility for one or two children – they will
accompany the kids during the day and create or update their individual plan and
goals.
For this internship, GLEN-participants should have experience in working with
mentally handicapped people. They should also enjoy working with children.
Experience in teaching arts, sports, games or agriculture and vocational training are
very welcome.
The tandem will be formed by a Slovak participant and a German/Swiss participant.

GRAPHE est constitué de 15 volontaires qui s’engagent dans des activités
éducatives et des projets sur les droits humains et sur l’environnement. Fondé en
1996, le groupe travaille dans la région du Plateau, plus spécifiquement dans le
village de Guebaki. Les conditions dans le village sont sommaires ; il n’y a pas
d’électricité et pas d’eau courante. La population de Guebaki dépend du charbon de
bois comme source de revenu ; néanmoins cette activité contribue à la dégradation
de l’environnement. Pour cette raison, trouver des alternatives à cette activité
constitue une des priorités de GRAPHE. Ce stage s’inscrit dans la continuité du
travail effectué par les stagiaires Géco-GLEN au sein du même projet durant les
deux années précédentes.
L’objectif du stage sera la réalisation d’une alternative au charbon de bois en
collaboration avec la population locale. Au cours du stage, les participant-e-s
contribueront à la mise en place d’un terrain de démonstration pour la population.
Ainsi, tous les villageois pourront apprendre à diversifier leurs revenus et répliquer ce
modèle dans leur propre ferme. Les participant-e-s s’assureront que les stratégies
proposées pourront être utilisées sur le long terme. Les stagiaires participeront à la
vie quotidienne du village et auront un aperçu des problématiques liées au
développement rural au Togo.
Les stagiaires devront posséder des connaissances sur la protection de
l’environnement et la diversification des revenus en milieu rural. Une expérience des
méthodes participatives ainsi qu’une maîtrise des outils de l’enquête sociologique
constituent un atout. A Guebakui, les participant-e-s seront logé-e-s dans la maison
du chef du village. Les stagiaires pourront passer les week-ends dans les villes
avoisinantes.

Une conférence stratégique pour promouvoir l’énergie
solaire au Togo

Urbis Fondation Togo (UF Togo) s’engage dans les domaines de l’environnement,
du développement rural, de la formation, de l’éducation, de la santé et du social. La
fondation est basée à Sokodé, la seconde ville du pays, dans la région du Centre.
Son objectif est de promouvoir l’égalité des chances dans l’accès aux ressources
naturelles et économiques. La promotion de l’énergie solaire est au cœur de cette
approche. Depuis 2005, UF Togo a facilité l’équipement en installations solaires du
Lycée Technique à Sokodé et des hôpitaux dans la région centrale et littorale. Avec
ses projets « Médiathèque » et « Ferme Pilote Solaire CPIA », elle renforce son
engagement social pour améliorer les conditions de vie de la population. La
fondation réalise son programme en étroite collaboration avec son organisation
mère, l’UF en Allemagne. L’équipe d’UF Togo est constituée de 28 personnes.
L’objectif du stage sera la mise en réseau des acteurs de l’énergie solaire du pays,
dans le but de créer une Journée Nationale Solaire annuelle au Togo, qui aura lieu
dès 2014. Les stagiaires établiront une base de données des acteurs clés qui
comprendra les fournisseurs, les techniciens, les producteurs, les formateurs et
enseignants, l’administration, les associations et les ministères. Ils/elles organiseront
une conférence à Lomé qui réunira ces acteurs. Cette conférence visera à
développer une stratégie pour l’organisation de la Journée Nationale Solaire et à
formuler une déclaration commune décrivant un concept concret. A travers leur
démarche, les participant-e-s contribueront à sensibiliser la population et les
autorités aux atouts de l’énergie solaire. Les stagiaires auront également l’occasion
d’effectuer un voyage d’échange dans un pays voisin avec une organisation active
dans le domaine de l’énergie solaire.
Une expérience en gestion et organisation d’évènements ou de conférences
constitue un atout pour ce stage. Les participant-e-s pourront loger au siège de la
fondation à Sokodé et pourront utiliser les équipements de la médiathèque.

Dynamiser la production de d’huile de palme au Togo

L’Association pour le Développement des Initiatives Locales au Togo (ADIL-TOGO)
accompagne les paysan-ne-s dans la valorisation des filières agricoles. Elle vise leur
autonomie financière et dynamise l’entrepreneuriat rural. L’association compte quatre
employé-e-s et deux volontaires. Elle travaille dans le milieu rural de la préfecture de
Kloto, dont le chef-lieu est Kpalimé. En 2012, ADIL compte élargir sa zone
d’intervention à neuf préfectures avoisinantes. Dans cette région, la culture du
palmier à huile occupe une place primordiale dans les productions agricoles et les
revenus des ménages. Les actions d’ADIL-TOGO ont conduit à la création de la
Coopérative des Transformatrices d’Huile de palme de Fiokpo (CTHF). Cette
coopération souhaite maintenant partager ses expériences avec les productrices
d’autres préfectures.
L’objectif du stage est de renforcer les capacités des productrices d’huile de palme.
Les stagiaires participeront au renforcement des capacités de la CTHF. Ils/elles
contribueront aussi à former les acteurs des filières agricoles au marketing
commercial. Ils/elles créeront une brochure sur l’utilisation de l’huile de palme rouge
pour promouvoir ce produit. Enfin, ils/elles créeront un site internet et formeront
l’équipe d’ADIL à l’utilisation et à la maintenance du site. Les participant-e-s se
familiariseront avec les problématiques liées à la production agricole au Togo.
Ils/elles échangeront quotidiennement avec les groupements de femmes
productrices de la région.
Il est important que les participant-e-s disposent de connaissances dans les
domaines du commerce, de l’économie coopérative, du marketing et de l’agriculture.
Des notions en création et maintenance de site internet constituent un atout. Les
stagiaires pourront loger dans les locaux d’ADIL-TOGO ou louer une chambre en
ville.

L’agriculture, une alternative de développement

Alternative Clé Verte (ACV) est une organisation togolaise ayant pour but la
promotion de l’agriculture biologique à travers la sensibilisation et la formation des
populations locales. ACV réalise également sa propre production biologique et
organise des séances de reboisement. Ses activités visent à proposer des
alternatives à l’utilisation d’engrais et d’insecticides chimiques. En démontrant aux
jeunes que l’agriculture est une alternative viable pour gagner dignement sa vie, ACV
soutient l’emploi des jeunes dans la région. 21 volontaires et stagiaires travaillent
actuellement pour l’association. ACV est basée à Kpalimé, une ville de 108 088
habitants située à 120 kilomètres au nord de Lomé. La région des Plateaux, où se
trouve Kpalimé, abrite les terres les plus riches du pays. La situation écologique de la
région s’est dégradée dans la dernière décennie à cause de l’usage massif des
herbicides et engrais chimiques, ainsi que de la coupe incontrôlée des bois des
forêts.
Les stagiaires participeront aux travaux quotidiens sur le site d’ACV. Leurs tâches
seront notamment la production agricole, la préparation du compost et de
l’insecticide biologique, ou l’élaboration de méthodes de sensibilisation. En dehors du
site, ils/elles visiteront des groupements agricoles et participeront aux campagnes de
sensibilisation dans les villages ainsi qu’aux séances de reboisement. Les
participant-e-s travailleront avec d’autres jeunes sur le site et se familiariseront avec
les réalités de la population rurale.
Pour ce stage, des connaissances de base en agriculture écologique et en protection
de l’environnement sont souhaitées. Etre familier avec le fonctionnement d’une
structure associative constitue aussi un atout. Il est important que les participant-e-s
apprécient le travail en équipe et la vie en milieu rural. Les stagiaires travailleront du
lundi au jeudi sur le site d’ACV et dans les villages, et reviendront en ville pour

L’Association maghrébine-européenne des jeunes pour le dialogue démocratique
(AMEDD) a été créée en septembre 2011 lors d’un échange entre jeunes
protagonistes de la révolution tunisienne et étudiant-e-s allemand-e-s. L’AMEDD vise
la participation des jeunes dans la région de Douz, une ville du sud de la Tunisie,
située à la lisière du Sahara. L’AMEDD collabore intensivement avec l’association
culturelle Merbed Douz, qui cherche à promouvoir le développement local dans cette
région. Les deux associations ont maintenant pour objectif commun de fonder un
réseau associatif avec d’autres organisations de développement local de la région.
Le réseau fournira aux citoyens un espace de rencontre, d’échange et de
coopération. Sept volontaires s’engagent actuellement pour l’AMEDD, ainsi qu’une
vingtaine pour Merbed Douz.
Les stagiaires soutiendront la mise en place et le renforcement du réseau associatif
local. Les principales tâches des participant-e-s seront l’organisation d’évènements
tels que des débats, des formations ou des échanges, ainsi que la recherche
d’associations partenaires en Europe. Selon l’état d’avancement du réseau au
moment du stage, les stagiaires contribueront à l’établissement d’un bureau
commun. Ce stage sera l’occasion pour les participant-e-s de se familiariser avec la
problématique de la transition démocratique dans le monde arabe. En travaillant
avec les volontaires, ils/elles pourront se mêler à la vie quotidienne de la ville.
Les stagiaires devront être capables de travailler de manière autonome. Une
expérience dans une association de développement local ou la participation à un
échange de jeunes constitue un atout. Il est souhaité que les participant-e-s

Kawempe is the division of Uganda’s capital, Kampala, with the lowest average
income. Situated around 8.5km from the city centre, this metropolitan area has
businesses, small industry as well as low income housing. The majority of youth in
Kawempe do not attend school, especially girls. It makes them vulnerable to sex
work, early marriage and drug trafficking.
In Kawempe, the NGO Somero Uganda has created a youth centre where it uses
peer education to reach the young people. Somero focuses on vulnerable groups
with special focus on girls and young women. Computer and literacy classes,
scholarships, tutoring and career guidance are aimed at offering the needed skills for
a self- determined and self-sufficient life. Somero also gives health-related and
psycho-social support and engages in community and mentor mobilization and
sensitization. Somero’s vision is the creation of a network of mutual support among
young Ugandans.
In this internship participants will gain insight into the multiple effects that education
of women can have on local communities. The goal of this internship is to support the
strategic development of this grassroots organization. Therefore, interns will create a
communication strategy for Somero Uganda including a web page, social media and
a blog for Somero scholarship-holders. The GLEN-participants will also support the
daily work of the NGO: giving classes on health and literacy, supporting the
documentation, monitoring and evaluation of project activities. Interns will also teach
IT classes and develop an alumni volunteer program. The GLEN-participants might
be joined by a local intern.
The interns should have experience with IT education and social work. Ideally, they
will have web design and communication skills in order to develop the
communication strategy of the NGO. GLEN-participants should be comfortable being
confronted with the difficult personal backgrounds of the participating girls and enjoy
working with and counselling young people.

Lying in the northern part of the Kampala district of Uganda, the Kawempe division
attracts many migrants from the northern region of the country. Informal economy
and informal settlements are constantly growing.
In promoting education, the Kawempe Youth Centre (KYC) mainly works to give
access to educational resources to marginalized groups through libraries, IT training,
health-related workshops and counselling. KYC has a mobile library service and
provides access to educational resources and services, providing information to be
used for leisure and knowledge, stimulating public interest in books and promoting
reading in general.
The internship will be linked to a project on adolescent sexual and reproductive
health (ASRH). The GLEN-participants will support the project by carrying out
activities with children, youth and women making use of performing arts and by
designing and distributing materials on the topic. Interns should also carry out
research and write a report on ASRH, which can be used by KYC for further projects
on the topic.
The interns will be provided with housing and a work space. The GLEN-participants
need good spoken and written communication skills. Further, this internship requires
flexibility and the ability to work independently as well as intercultural skills.
Experience in working with young people would be an asset.
The tandem will be formed by a Latvian participant and a German/Swiss participant.

Situated in the southern province of Zambia, Masuku High School is a boarding
school run by the United Church of Zambia (UCZ). There are 450 pupils from across
the country studying in Grades 8-12. The school faces many challenges such as lack
of teaching materials and a small teaching staff due to lack of funds, as well as
unreliable electricity and water supply. However, power from the national grid with a
steady supply of electricity is expected in late 2012, making the internship particularly
interesting as the village will undergo a significant transformation.
The aim of the internship is to support the existing teachers by lightening their
workload. Interns will teach Natural Sciences and/or Mathematics (or other subjects
depending on their field of study) for 10 lessons a week, as well as offer afternoon
activities for students. Interns are encouraged to come up with ideas for these leisure
activities. Examples are drama classes, soccer, volleyball, chess, choir or agricultural
activities. Interns are required to take part in the weekly assemblies with the local
teachers. Another task of the interns is to take supervision duties for two weeks per
term.
Interns will live at the school which means facing the same conditions as the locals,
such as the scarcity of electricity, which is currently only provided by solar panels.
For most supplies, the village is totally dependent on Choma, the district capital 76
km away (access by dirt road). There is only one form of public transport per day,
except Sundays, to reach Choma. The school will therefore be the main focus of the
interns’ time in Zambia.
Differing pedagogical methods (experiments, group work, discussions, etc.) and the
ability to teach with limited resources are required for this internship. Good
knowledge of the subject matters to be taught (maths, natural sciences etc.) is also
necessary. Any artistic or sport skills are welcome for the afternoon activities.
The scheduled time for the internship is 3 months between September and
November 2013. Training and seminars prior to the internship will be held in English.

Sheki is a city in north-western Azerbaijan with 63,000 inhabitants. The city is
surrounded by the white peaks of the Greater Caucasus. Sheki is known for its
mineral springs and its small silk industry attracting national and international tourists.
The “Uluchay” Social Economic Innovation Center is a local grassroots organization
addressing social, economic and human rights issues. Uluchay’s mission is to
support the socio-economic development of Azerbaijan’s regions outside of the
capital. Its priority areas are: civil society development, public sector reform,
economic development & youth empowerment. In this context, it works with internally
displaced people, media, farm workers as well as local governments and privatesector businesses.
Interns will support the development of the NGO by bringing in new ideas. They will
first assess the local situation in order to suggest new areas of involvement.
Developing new projects with the staff members will be at the centre of the
internship. These should especially focus on the field of socio-economic
development. The GLEN-participants will also offer workshops on important skills for
setting up new businesses and for improving the quality of services.
For this internship, GLEN-participants need the ability to work in an unstructured
work-environment. They should have experience in working with grassroots
organizations. Project planning and project management skills are an important
asset. Interns need research (community mapping and needs assessment), data
collection and analysis skills. Finally, the cohabitation of several cultural groups in
Sheki requires intercultural competences.

Borjomi, Georgia, was once a famous spa and holiday destination. With the end of
the Soviet Union this income-source, however, disappeared leaving an
unemployment rate of over 60%. Lately, thanks to the close-by National Park, the
number of national and international visitors has increased again. This offers new
opportunities for small businesses in the field of tourism services.
The Borjomi Women’s “Just by Hand” Craft Cooperative was created in 2009. Its
objective is to create employment in the region for locals and for internally displaced
people (IPDs) from the break-away province of Abkhazia. Given the rise of tourism,
the cooperative produces traditional hand-made Georgian crafts to be sold as
souvenirs. The cooperative focuses on women and children who receive training and
support.
The goal of this internship is to encourage more IDP women to join Borjomi Women’s
Craft Cooperative and to develop the work of the organization. The GLENparticipants will support the cooperative by offering trainings (English, book-keeping,
updating the webpage and communication with potential funders etc.) Furthermore,
they will help the organization increase its distribution network and find alternative
sources of funding. To do so, GLEN-participants will be joined by a local intern. The
organization offers a stay with a host family and the interns will be in constant contact
with the local community since Borjomi is a small town.
For this internship, experience in working with refugees or other vulnerable groups is
desirable. Interns should have computer skills as well as knowledge of accounting. It
is essential that at least one participant speaks Russian. Experience in fundraising,
small business development and project management would be an asset. Interns are
encouraged to bring their own computers.
The tandem will be formed by a Slovakian participant and a German/Swiss

The Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park, located in central Georgia, is one of the
largest of its kind in Europe. It covers more than 85,000 hectares of native forest,
sub-alpine, alpine meadows and is home to rare species of flora and fauna. The park
is also the first national park in the Caucasus corresponding to international
standards of nature protection. Established in 1995, it became a member of the
European Network of Protected Areas – Pan Park in 2007, guaranteeing the highest
level of nature protection and sustainable development of tourism.
Aside from nature-based tourism, the park offers environmental education to schools
and interested groups and has established a visitor-oriented infrastructure which
includes health spas, a ski-centre and the Ktsia-Tabatskhuri high elevation lake area.
By attracting tourists to the region, the Park actively helps decreasing the high
unemployment rate in the region and creating new income sources.
The goal of this internship is to diversify tourism opportunities in the BorjomiKharagauli National Park. The interns will assess the current tourism products and
prepare suggestions on how to improve them. They will further prepare plans to
diversify and develop the Park’s tourism activities. They are encouraged to propose
new tours and services. For this project, the interns will be joined by a local
participant.
The GLEN-participants should have experience in tourism management as well as
marketing, planning and tourism product development. Russian skills are an asset.

In the Koda Settlement, 25 kilometres from Georgia’s capital Tbilisi, locals are mainly
employed in the agricultural sector. However, due to the lack of irrigations systems
the yields are limited. The Community Educational Centre of Koda (KCEC) is the only
free educational facility in the municipality. Set up in 2009 by the Georgian chapter of
the Institute for International Cooperation of the German Adult Education Association
(dvv-international), KCEC offers various vocational and self-development oriented
courses for internally displaced persons (IDPs) and local community members. With
the main goals of socio-economic integration of the IDPs and improvement of their
social welfare, the centre runs courses in computer skills, foreign languages, office
manager skills, small business management and handicrafts. There are also free
medical and law consultations, as well as special trainings for youth club members,
teachers and community leaders. Since 2012 KCEC also includes a social
enterprise.
This internship aims to strengthen civil participation of local youth with the use of
non-formal education. GLEN-participants will plan and implement different
community activities and events with youth club members. These will focus on the
promotion of multiculturalism, volunteerism and social inclusion. The interns will also
support KCEC in marketing their activities through the use of multimedia and social
networks.
Interns should have experience in youth activation and mobilization. Furthermore, a
background in formal or non-formal education is necessary. PR and IT skills are
desirable. Good social and communication skills are also required.

The Lagodekhi Reserve located in Kakheti, eastern Georgia, on the border to
Azerbaijan, is one of the oldest preserved natural landscapes in Georgia. Almost one
fourth of Georgia’s flora, up to 1500 species, can be found in this relatively small area
of only 25 000 hectares. The Protected Area offers good opportunities for naturebased tourism and environmental education and a wide range of recreational
activities.
As a result of the Soviet Union’s collapse and the transition from a planned to a
market economy, the region has suffered economically from the disruption of
established trade patterns and rapidly decreasing production. As a result, the
unemployment rate is high in Kakheti. Credit, investment and training are needed to
stimulate the economy. The decayed agricultural infrastructure lends itself to
subsistence rather than commercial agriculture. The Lagodekhi Reserve offers an
opportunity to attract tourism to the region and create jobs and income.
The main goal of this internship is to plan and implement a monitoring system for
mammal species in the Lagodekhi Reserve. Interns will evaluate what kind of system
would be adequate for the reserve, plan and hold trainings for the rangers on how to
use the system. Furthermore, they will create manuals for rangers on how to collect
information on other kinds of species.
For these tasks, interns need knowledge about animals and experience in related
field work as well as knowledge in GIS and database management. The ability to
handle maps and GPS are an asset. The GLEN-participants should be in good shape
physically and motivated to work outdoors. If possible, interns are encouraged to
bring their own computers. A local intern will join them.

The Society for Enabling and Training Adolescents for Successful and Healthy
Adulthood (ETASHA) trains young people to give them a better chance to find jobs.
They provide guidance and vocational training as well as educational and
employment opportunities for communities in and around Delhi.
ETASHA believes that vocational training is not enough and must be matched with
confidence building and developing inter- and intrapersonal skills. Many of the
trainees who were school drop-outs, unemployed or workers in the informal economy
have now jobs in the formal sector, earning fair salaries and enjoying safe work
conditions. This in turn supports their families and improves general living conditions.
The goal of the internship is the creation of a “drop-in” centre for youths and their
families from low socio-economic backgrounds. The centre offers career guidance
and vocational training. The interns will support ETASHA in conceptualizing and
developing the centre. They will also create necessary facilitation materials and
promote the centre in the community. Further tasks will be the organization of events
and the creation of a library. The GLEN-participants might be joined by a local intern.
GLEN-participants need excellent written and spoken skills in English as well as
computer literacy (MS Office and internet). Intercultural awareness and good
organizational as well as communication skills are required.
The scheduled time for the internship is 3 months between September and
November 2013. Training and seminars prior to the internship will be held in English.
The tandem will be formed by a Slovenian participant and a German/Swiss
participant.

The Don Bosco College provides higher education in Angadikadavu in the Kannur
district of northern Kerala, India. The region is green with its rainforests, coffee and
tea plantations. Rice, coconuts and different types of spices are also grown in the
Kannur district. A large part of the population depends directly or indirectly on
agriculture. However, the ecological integrity of the region is threatened by logging
and mining, which lead to water scarcity and landslides.
The Don Bosco College aims to play an active role in educating and sensitizing their
students and the community on issues related to environmental protection. The
GLEN-participants will assist in turning the college into a forum for exchange and
learning on climate and environment.
Before starting their awareness raising activities, the interns will study the
environmental risks in the area and elaborate actions plans on how to avoid
environmental damage. They will then try to develop and implement environmental
conservation projects in collaboration with Don Bosco students.
The Don Bosco college offers the GLEN-participants accommodation and meals in
their residence. The organization also gives provides a workspace with computers.
Due to their work at the college, the interns will enjoy constant contact with the local
youth.
This internship requires fluency in English and an outgoing personality. Experience in
environmental conservation activities is desirable. Interns should also bring teaching
skills and experience with informal learning.

In the territory between the Palani and Sirumalai Hills in the south Indian state of
Tamil Nadu, agriculture is the main occupation of the inhabitants. Over the past
years, the area has seen environmental degradation which puts the livelihood of
people at risk. As a result, migration to the cities has increased. The Sirumalai
Evergreen Multipurpose Community Development Society (SIMCODESS) offers the
people of the region environmental education to halt these developments. They put
emphasis on organic farming and bio-fertilizers. Besides trainings on sustainable
agriculture, SIMCODESS also gives out micro-credits and offers education in order to
integrate marginalized groups into society.
The interns will support the organization’s daily work with special focus on training
rural communities in setting up organic manure compost centres and developing
samples of bio-fertilizers. Therefore, they will analyze the local agricultural practises
and then organize workshops and support farmers to develop plans on the use of
bio-fertilizers. The GLEN-participants will also be invited occasionally to teach
environmental issues in local schools. The organization offers the interns a working
space, internet access and accommodation.
Most importantly, participants should have knowledge of sustainable and organic
farming techniques. Furthermore, they should have experience with bio-fertilizers,
manure-preparation and compost centres. Teaching skills are also welcome. The
interns should be outgoing and enjoy working with people.

In the far east of Tajikistan lies the city Panjakent on the Zeravshan river. Zeravshan
means “golden” in Tajik. The river supplies water for agriculture, the main livelihood
of the 314,000 people in the valley, whose population consists mainly of ethnic Tajiks
and an Uzbek minority.
The Zeravshan Tourism Development Association (ZTDA) works to implement
community-based tourism strategies. The NGO’s mission is to provide villagers with
better sources of income and at the same time to preserve the fragile environment
and cultural heritage. The organization’s members are local villagers providing tourist
services like accommodation, transport and mountain guiding. ZTDA offers free
professional training courses focusing on issues like running a home stay,
environmental care, marketing and business management.
The GLEN-interns will develop a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy for
ZTDA which strengthens the visibility of the organization's sustainability and
environmental protection efforts. The goal of the CSR policy is to win new business
ventures, to improve customer and workforce satisfaction, to differentiate from
competitors as well as to promote transparency. The CSR plan should also open up
new opportunities for publicity and funding.
For this internship, good writing skills in English are indispensable. Interns also need
knowledge of CSR, sustainable tourism management and development. Previous
experience in fundraising activities and international project writing would be
appreciated. A good grasp of publishing programs and photo editing software is an
asset. Finally, ZTDA seeks knowledge of statistics and data handling. Interns should
bring their own laptops.
The tandem will be formed by a German/Swiss participant and a Swiss participant.

Lviv, close to the Polish border, is one of the cultural centers of Ukraine. The city is
also famous for its eleven universities. The hilly green landscape and its historical
city centre make Lviv one of the country’s main tourist destinations. However, the
tourism sector has been affected by the global financial crisis. Due to the EU
integration process ecological awareness and environmental issues are on the rise in
the country opening space for sustainable tourism, environmental education and
green technologies.
The organization Znesinnya is responsible for the protection, preservation and
regulated development of the old historical and picturesque district of Lviv which is on
the UNESCO world heritage list. The creation of the Znesinnya Regional Landscape
Park reflects the goal to enhance people’s appreciation of the natural, historical and
cultural environment of the city. Therefore, the park combines tourism with
environmental protection, education and monitoring tasks. On average, 800 000
people visit the park every year.
Interns will help the organization in boosting the recognition of the importance of the
park and green areas in general. In order to do so, interns will work on showing the
economic value of the park by turning tourist attraction, recreational offer, aesthetic
value, health, educational and scientific benefit as well as its political good into
numbers. The interns will also make recommendations and promote the park to
different stakeholders (city officials, business people, public). The GLEN-participants
will also start environmental volunteering projects in the city.
This internship requires experience in economic analysis and ecosystem valuation
(cost-benefit, contingent valuation, hedonic pricing, etc.). The participants should be
familiar with the concepts and global trends of “urban green”. Good research,
communication, and analytical skills are also necessary. Experience with PR and
media relations as well as working with volunteers are desirable.
