Good afternoon.
Je suis content de vous voir de nouveau présents à ce rendez-vous annuel et je suis
fier d’être celui qui vous brossera un tableau des principales activités qui se sont
déroulées à l’aéroport et autour de l’aéroport en 2011.
Comme Paul ne manquera pas de le souligner dans un moment, l’année 2011 a été un
succès à tous les égards – nous avons enregistré un nombre record de passagers à
Ottawa, notre situation financière est excellente, et nos passagers et nos parties
prenantes continuent à applaudir nos initiatives.
Grâce à ces excellentes critiques, l’Administration s’est de nouveau distinguée en 2011
en remportant des prix convoités pour la qualité de son service à la clientèle.
We were thrilled to learn that the airport moved up in the ranks in North American to
finish first of all participating airports. We also continued to show well in the World,
finishing second among airports that serve between two and five million passengers.
That makes six consecutive years of providing outstanding service and placing well in
36 categories for which all airports are judged. It also earned us a spot on the inaugural
Airports Council International Executive Director’s Roll of Excellence in Airport Service
Quality that recognized airports that have consistently ranked in the top of their
categories. This is a distinguished list that we’re pleased to be a part of and will make
every effort to stay on.
Achievements in customer service are not the Airport Authority’s alone. We have
wonderful partners in the airlines, the concessionaires, the car rental companies, our
volunteers and everyone else who interacts with our customers on a daily basis. They
contribute to the overall impression that a passenger has when he or she travels
through the airport. They make a difference with each helpful hint or smile that they
share with someone who needs their help. Thank you to everyone on the campus who

has made serving our collective clients well a priority. And thank you to each client who
has taken the time to complete a survey and provide the needed feedback. Whether the
comments are negative or positive, we have something to learn from them.
Les compliments que nous recueillons s’expliquent en partie par l’attention que nous
portons à l’entretien et à l’amélioration de nos installations, là et quand ces
améliorations sont nécessaires, et dans la mesure où nous en avons les moyens.
Compte tenu de notre bonne performance financière et du respect de nos cibles
budgétaires, nous avons pu continuer à investir dans l’aéroport, et avons apporté
plusieurs améliorations du côté piste, du côté du traitement des voyageurs dans le
secteur de l’Agence des services frontaliers du Canada et procédé à des mises à
niveau et remplacements continus programmés de plusieurs aspects du bâtiment qui
compte déjà neuf ans.
Ces projets ne sont pas très excitants, relativement parlant, mais ils étaient et
demeurent très importants. Les travaux côté piste se poursuivent et se feront plus
intensifs au cours des prochaines années parce que nous entreprendrons le
resurfaçage de nos principales pistes. Oui, nos activités en seront quelque peu
perturbées, mais nous croyons que ces inconvénients à court terme seront négligeables
par rapport aux avantages que ces travaux nous procureront une fois réalisés.
Some of the more visible projects happened outside of the terminal on airport property.
Our new neighbour, the CE Centre, constructed and opened their new building in less
than a year. From watching as the land was cleared, the shell structure was
constructed, the building was topped-off and all the finishing touches were applied, it
was something to see! The 225 thousand square foot, state-of-the-art facility has
already hosted everything from concerts and music shows to major trade exhibitions.
The CE Centre offering coupled with that of the new Ottawa Convention Centre
downtown means that Ottawa is back on the map for convention business, which is

already attracting major conferences and events and should bode well for the future of
tourism in our region.
Et ce n’est qu’un petit aperçu de toutes les choses excitantes qui se sont déroulées en
2011. À moins d’être dans le feu de l’action, il est difficile de saisir réellement tout ce qui
se passe à un aéroport. Les jours se suivent mais ne se ressemblent pas, et les
problèmes qui touchent un partenaire se répercutent sur l’ensemble de l’exploitation.
Je suis toujours renversé de découvrir comment les gens à notre aéroport se serrent les
coudes pour venir à bout de ces difficultés et rendre l’expérience de voyage de nos
clients encore plus agréable. Les employés de notre Administration aéroportuaire
participent à cet effort collectif et continuent à m’épater par leur dévouement envers
l’aéroport, leur débrouillardise et leur engagement à œuvrer à son succès.
Et je tiens à tous les en remercier. I appreciate Paul and his team for their leadership
and dedication. I meet with them regularly and I know that they put a lot of time and
consideration into their research and planning and they are focused on every aspect of
the operation.
I also have a great deal of gratitude for my colleagues on the Board of Directors.
Each shares his or her talent very willingly and I’m happy to have had the opportunity to
get to know all of them very well, and appreciate their friendship. Particular thanks to
those who left the Board in early 2011, including Geneviève Brown, Charlie Logue and
Joan Sun McGarry. More recently, the term for Jim Wright, Eric McSweeney as well as
my own also came to an end. I wish each of them well and thank them for their service.
We had the good fortune to welcome Brendan McGuinty to the Board early in 2011 and
Jacques Sauvé, Thom Bennett, Philippe Marion and Craig Bater are recent nominees.
I have no doubt that each of you will make your own unique contribution to the success
of the Airport Authority going forward and will take the same pride in it that the rest of us
have and do.

L’an dernier, j’ai ouvert mon allocution en indiquant que ce serait ma première
assemblée publique comme président du Conseil d’administration. Cette année, je vais
la conclure en indiquant qu’il s’agit de ma dernière assemblée comme président du CA.
Nos statuts internes sont conçus de sorte à échelonner pour ainsi dire les mandats de
nos membres et nous assurer une bonne combinaison de nouveaux membres et de
membres d’expérience.
Et si j’ai siégé au Conseil d’administration depuis 2003, je n’ai eu le plaisir de présider le
Conseil que quelques années. Je suis fier des réalisations que nous avons accomplies
ensemble et je suis très heureux d’avoir fait partie de cette équipe pendant près d’une
décennie. I would be remiss if I did not pay special tribute to Paul, as this will be his last
meeting as well. Prior to my time on the board, and certainly while I was a member,
Paul has impressed me with his passion for the airport and his dedication to ensuring its
success. He’s very fond of saying things like “every orchestra needs a conductor but
also the musicians to make beautiful music”. Well, he’s one heck of a conductor!
The airport and the region are better for having had him at the helm of the airport, and
both will reap the benefits of his time here for many decades to come. Thank you for
your help and wise counsel, and please take my best wishes and those of the entire
Board of Directors with you as you plan your retirement years.
I would like to close my remarks by saying that I will take with me fond memories of the
many accomplishments of the Authority, and I will always feel an enormous amount of
pride in our airport.
