I work with concepts of gender, life, death, and transcendence — with their multiple and varied
connotations — by means of the recycled and found, moulded with noble and modest materials. I
ritualize them, putting forth a new expression with the ability to appreciate chaos. With reference to
the knowledge and wisdom of indigenous cultures, the same material is reflected in my work as
generator of questions and answers, and as having contact with the sacred.
Je travaille avec les concepts de genre, de vie, de mort et de transcendance, et leurs multiples et diverses
connotations — au moyen du recyclé et du trouvé, fusionné avec des matériaux nobles et modestes. Mes
œuvres ritualisées possèdent une nouvelle expressivité qui tient compte du chaos. La sagesse et le savoir
des cultures autochtones sont également reflétés dans mon travail comme générateur de questions et de
réponses, et de communication avec le sacré.
Trabajo conceptos de género, vida, muerte y trascendencia, con sus múltiples y variadas connotaciones;
por medio de lo reciclado, encontrado, modelado; con materiales nobles y humildes, ritualizando con
ellos; proponiendo una nueva mirada con la capacidad de apreciar el caos. Con referencia al
conocimiento y sabiduría de diversas culturas originarias, la materia misma como generadora de
preguntas y respuestas, y a un contacto con lo sagrado, es lo que reflejo en mi trabajo especificamente
de esta parte del planeta.

Zinnia Ramírez Taylor is a Chilean visual artist born in Valparaiso in 1955. She now lives in Santiago.
She is a graduate of Concepción University with a major in painting, and continued her studies in the
studios of the University of Chile. She began her work with an investigation of colour, pre-Columbian
cultures, and the language of the indigenous peoples of southern Chile (Mapudugun). She then entered
the ceramic studios. Since 1989, she has participated in exhibitions of sculpture, installation, painting,
graphics, and ceramics in Chile and abroad. Currently, Zinnia Ramírez directs the Sculptors Society of
Chile and participates in community and ecological action groups such as Women for the Earth and
the Pre-Ecological Art Group.
Zinnia Ramírez Taylor est une artiste visuelle chilienne née à Valparaiso en 1955. Elle vit maintenant à
Santiago. Diplômée de l’Université Concepcion avec une majeure en peinture, elle a poursuivi ses études
dans les ateliers de l’Université du Chili. Elle débute sa pratique artistique par une investigation de la
couleur, des cultures pré-colombiennes et du langage des peuples autochtones du sud du Chili
(Mapudugun). Puis elle s’intéresse à la céramique. Depuis 1989, elle a participé à des expositions de
sculptures, d’installations, de peintures, de dessins et de céramiques au Chili et à l’étranger. Actuellement,
Zinnia Ramírez dirige la Société des sculpteurs du Chili et participe à des groupes d’action écologique et
communautaire comme les Femmes pour la Terre et le Groupe d’art pré-écologique.
Zinnia Ramírez Taylor, artista plástica chilena, nació en Valparaíso en 1955, vive actualmente en
Santiago. Egresada de Artes Plásticas de la Universidad de Concepción, con mención en pintura en
1980, continuó estudios en los talleres de la Universidad de Chile. Inició su trabajo con investigación
del color, de culturas precolombinas, y del idioma de los indígenas del Sur de Chile (Mapudugun).
Ingresó a talleres de cerámica. Desde 1989, ha participado, en Chile y en el extranjero, en exposiciones
de escultura, instalaciones, pintura, gráfica, y cerámica. Zinnia ha sido galardonada con premios y
becas. Actualmente dirige la Sociedad de Escultores de Chile — SOECH — y participa en grupos de
acción comunitaria, y ecológicos, entre otros, “Mujeres por la Tierra” y “Grupo de Arte Pre-ecología”.
