Mon frère jumeau Harold et moi y avons travaillé à temps partiel tout au long de nos études universitaires. Plus tard, nous en sommes devenus copropriétaires. Au Ruby Foo's, j'ai appris à apprécier et à respecter la compétence des autres. Madagascar est la cinquième île du monde par taille, aussi grande que la France et la Belgique réunies. La majorité des 16 millions de Malgaches vit à la campagne. Le pays est l’un des plus pauvres de la planète. L’espérance moyenne de vie n’est que de 57 ans contre 75 pour la France. Le revenu moyen d’une famille est de 30,50 euros par mois. Impossible de faire vivre les siens avec une somme pareille. Cela suffit à peine à acheter les produits de première nécessité: du riz, de l’huile, du sucre, un peu de viande. Voici un exemple typique de la pauvreté de ce pays et des problèmes qui se présentent aux jeunes. Fenitra est un garçon de quatorze ans. Son père travaille comme porteur de briques. Sa mère est marchande ambulante. Salaire total: 8000 francs malgaches, soit 1,52 euros par jour. A peine de quoi nourrir leurs quatre enfants. Fenitra, l’aîné, doit s’occuper de la maison: préparer le riz, chercher l’eau et le charbon de bois pour cuisiner, garder les petits...... Alors il a quitté l’école à neuf ans, comme beaucoup d’autres jeunes qu’on appelle “enfants des rues”. Les parents de ces enfants-là n’ont pas les moyens de les envoyer à l’école. Certains font de petits boulots pour aider leurs parents, mais beaucoup traînent dans le quartier, passant leur journée à jouer au baby-foot, aux cartes ou à faire des mauvais coups. Quant à Fenitra, il a de la chance. Il raconte: “Un dimanche, à l’église, des gens d’une association qui s’occupe de jeunes gens comme moi sont venus établir un Centre de Formation. Ma mère a déposé ma candidature. Et voilà!” Il avait le choix entre l’atelier de mécanique, de menuiserie, de maçonnerie ou d’électricité. Il a choisi la menuiserie ........ Un vieux bar, des tables orange et des banquettes en cuir. Un bon bistrot de quartier. L’endroit est pourtant tout à fait différent. Car dans ce café, toutes les boissons et les plats coûtent 1,50 euros, un prix exceptionnel à Paris où il faut payer au moins 8 euros pour le moindre plat du jour. Cette idée est née d’une conversation entre copains. “Nous étions tous d’accord pour dire que boire un coup à Paris était devenu beaucoup trop cher”, explique le patron. Jus d’orange, café, bière, croque-monsieur, omelette, poulet, frites, salade, pâtisseries, mousse au chocolat...on trouve ici tout ce que proposent les autres brasseries. Mais moins cher. “Un bistrot n’est pas un magasin de luxe. Pour moi, un repas ne doit pas dépasser 4,50 euros. Je respecte les gens qui travaillent dur et qui viennent dépenser leur argent chez moi,” continue le patron. Pour 4,50 euros donc, on peut effectivement choisir et composer un repas complet: poulet-fritescafé ou encore omelette-salade-tarte aux pommes. Deux amies, Caroline et Françoise, sont attablées tranquillement. Caroline a essayé un poulet-salade et Françoise un croque-monsieurfrites, soit un repas à 3 euros chacune. “On ne pensait vraiment pas trouver cela à Paris. Non seulement c’est bon, mais le choix est large et surtout le service très rapide”, explique Françoise. Spoken Text 3 – Le Courriel d’Eloise Cher Antoine, Une grande nouvelle: je suis amoureuse!! Je pense que je perds mon temps en classe. Je n’apprends rien d’utile ou d’intéressant. A quoi ça sert les maths ou tous les livres qu’on doit lire? Et puis je m’ennuie cette année parce que mes profs sont tellement ennuyeux!! En plus, avoir son bac, ça ne sert à rien. Mon grand frère, tu sais, il est allé à l’université, mais il ne trouve pas de travail. Ça fait déjà dix mois qu’il cherche! Presque tous ses copains sont aussi au chômage. Par contre ma mère, qui n’a pas fini l’école, elle a toujours travaillé. Et puis, quand je travaillerai, je pourrai enfin m’acheter une voiture et me payer des vacances.
