2009, of Rosenthal AG, a prestigious
German producer of items in porcelain
and designer furnishing complements
for the tabletop, marked the birth of
a leading group in the prestigious
tabletop furnishing sector. Founded
in 1879 by Philipp Rosenthal, this
German company with headquarters
in Selb, Bavaria, is one of the most
well-known
elegant
tableware
brands, a producer of porcelain and
furnishing complements and the
pioneer of design on the tabletop.
Internationally famous Designers,
such as Jasper Morrison, Paul
Wunderlich and Patricia Urquiola,
have worked with Rosenthal, as
have artists, such as Salvador Dalì
and Andy Warhol. Sambonet and
Rosenthal represent the union of two
companies sharing a focus on design
and innovation, product quality and
customer care, both with a strong
personality, a peculiar heritage of
notoriety, and appeal on consumers.
The offer of tabletop and kitchen
complements deriving from the
union of the two companies, is
one of the most extensive and
articulated proposals available on
today’s market. Together with the
support of an attentive and capillary
distribution structure, it assures the
new group turnover results that put
it at the top of the sector. Estimated
turnover for the new Group stands at
approximately 200 million euros.
The purchase of the German
company will allow the Group to
offer prestigious tabletop settings,
where the cutlery and items in steel
by Sambonet will be completed by
Rosenthal porcelain and glasses.
The Group will extend its product
portfolio, currently comprising the
Sambonet, Paderno and Arthur Krupp
brands, with another three prestigious
brands in the sector: Rosenthal,
Thomas and Hutschenreuther. The
excellence of Rosenthal in the retail
market, together with the skill matured
by Sambonet in the catering channel,
will ensure the new Group plays
a leading role in the international
tabletop market in both the Home
and the Hotel & Restaurant sectors.
Thanks to this important operation,
Sambonet Paderno Industrie, which
already boasts a leading presence on
the foreign markets, will become even
stronger in the international tabletop
and kitchen complement sector, in
particular, acquiring an important
position on the German market
through the Rosenthal brand.

Hutschenreuther. L’eccellenza di Rosenthal nel mercato al dettaglio unita
alle competenze maturate da Sambonet nel settore alberghiero, garantirà
al nuovo Gruppo un ruolo di primo
piano sul mercato internazionale della
tavola sia nel settore Home sia in quello Hotel & Restaurant.

It all began at the end of the eighteenth
century when Giuseppe Sambonet, a
nobleman from Vercelli, a skilled goldsmith
and silversmith, was asked to restore precious
sacred objects from Vercelli cathedral.
In 1856, his son Giuseppe, a Fine Arts
graduate, obtained his warrant as Master
Goldsmith and on 15th May founded the
company, Giuseppe Sambonet, depositing
his seal bearing the initials “GS” at the Turin
mint: this seal was destined to become a
famous symbol of excellence in the tabletop
sector. In 1900, he earned the title of Official
Purveyor to many noble families, including
the Duchess of Genoa and the Count of Turin.
In 1932, the company set up the first
industrial production plant in Italy, capable
of manufacturing both sterling silver and
galvanic silverware. In 1938, Sambonet was
the first company in Italy and Europe to
produce stainless steel cutlery and master
the technique for silver-plating steel, thus
becoming the unchallenged protagonist of
the “modern tabletop”.
In 1947, it started producing stainless steel
knives and blades using its own technology.
In 1956, Sambonet conquered the
international market by being chosen, from
among many other competitors, to supply
the first international American hotel: the
Cairo Hilton. It was in that moment that
Sambonet entered the international hotel
sector.
Starting from the sixties, leading designers,
such as Roberto Sambonet, Giò Ponti and
Rodolfo Dordoni, created innovative models
which further strengthened the market image
of Sambonet. Some of them, such as the
“Pesciera”, the “Center line” collection and
the Elite trays from “Linea 50” are exhibited
at the New York Moma.
1990 was the year the group entered the
American market with Sambonet USA Inc., a
company incorporated in New Jersey and an
able developer of a continuously expanding
“Italian style market”. Established in 1925,
Paderno is an international manufacturer of
professional cookware and kitchen items for
the catering sector. In 1979, the company, at
that time known as Alluminio Paderno and
specialised in the production of aluminium
cookware for the home, was taken over by
the brothers Pierluigi and Franco Coppo, the
current owners of the Sambonet Paderno
Industrie group. The two young brothers
soon began to reorganise and relaunch the
company. Its name changed to Paderno
S.r.l. and the production of stainless steel
cookware began to accompany that in
aluminium. In a short while, the range of
manufactured items was differentiated in
order to satisfy the specific requirements
of the home and catering sectors. Paderno
distributes its products via specialist resellers
to all the catering sectors (restaurants, fastfood outlets, hotels, community, hospitals,
cruise ships, the military, etc.) in over 120
countries around the world. Thanks to 80
years of history and a capillary presence
in Europe, the Middle and Far East, not
to mention Russia, the United States and
Australia, Paderno is a vital international
reference point for the entire catering sector.
It’s vast product range can fully satisfy the
requirements of each market segment, from
catering to communities in general.
The company’s entrance into the Paderno
Group united two strongly complementary
brands, as regards both product and markets
served. The combination of Sambonet and
Paderno, in fact, made it possible to give
customers a complete offer of tableware by
Sambonet and kitchenware by Paderno.
Beard was purchased in April 2000. This
company, based in Montreux, Switzerland,
has a hundred years’ experience, an
international reputation and, especially, a
quality level that is appreciated in the most
prestigious hotels and restaurants all over the
world.
In 2001, to crown the relaunch of Sambonet
S.p.A., a new factory was built in Orfengo
(Novara) where all the production activities
of Sambonet S.p.A. and Paderno S.r.l. are
carried out.
Designed by the Frigerio Design Group
architecture studio, the building reflects the
image of a company based on quality and
design in which all the pieces are based on a
geometrical module.
The factory does not just comprise
production departments and offices, but
it also incorporates a total concept of the
Sambonet philosophy, paying special
attention to customers, thanks to a showroom
and company store, and to employees who
can benefit from a recreational area fitted out
with a gym, five-a-side football pitches and
tennis courts.
In 2004, the Orfengo factory was further
extended and the two companies were
merged into Sambonet Paderno Industrie
S.p.A..
In 2008, the covered area was further
extended [50,000 m²] to satisfy the new
logistics and storage requirements for an
industrial facility covering an area of 120,000
m² and employing over 250 people.
On 1st August 2009, Sambonet Paderno
Industrie purchased the German company,
Rosenthal, a prestigious German group in the
sector of porcelain and designer furnishing
complements for the home. The purchase
allowed Sambonet Paderno Industrie to
extend and enrich its Sambonet, Paderno
and Arthur Krupp brand portfolio, integrating
it with prestigious brands in the sector Rosenthal, Thomas and Hutschenreuther thus giving life to an international leader of
prestigious furnishing complements for the
tabletop.

Die Anfänge gehen auf das Ende des 18.
Jahrhunderts zurück, als Giuseppe Sambonet, ein
Edelmann aus Vercelli und begnadeter Gold- und
Silberschmied, die Restaurierung der heiligen
Preziosen des Doms von Vercelli anvertraut wurde.
1856 erhält der Sohn Giuseppe, der bereits die
Kunstakademie abgeschlossen hat, die Lizenz
als Goldschmiedemeister, gründet am 15. Mai
die Firma Giuseppe Sambonet und hinterlegt
bei der Münzanstalt von Turin die Punze mit den
Initialen „GS“: eine berühmte Marke, die zum
Symbol feinster Tafelkultur werden sollte. 1900
erhält er den Titel des offiziellen Lieferanten vieler
Adelsfamilien, darunter die Herzogin von Genua
und der Graf von Turin. 1932 errichtet er die erste
industrielle Produktionsstätte in Italien, in der
neben der Produktion von Massivsilber nun auch
die galvanische Versilberung vorgenommen wird.
1938 beginnt Sambonet als erste Firma in Italien
und Europa mit der Herstellung von Bestecken
aus rostfreiem Stahl, verfeinert die Technik für
die Versilberung von Stahl und wird somit zum
unbestreitbaren Protagonisten der „modernen
Tischkultur“. 1947 beginnt die Herstellung von
Messern und Klingen aus INOX-Stahl.
1956 erobert Sambonet den internationalen
Markt, indem sich die Firma unter verschiedenen
Konkurrenten durchsetzt und den Auftrag für das
erste internationale amerikanische Hotel erhält:
das Hilton Kairo. Mit diesem Schritt setzt Sambonet
einen Fuß in die internationale Hotellerie. Seit den
60er Jahren haben große Designer wie Roberto
Sambonet, Giò Ponti und Rodolfo Dordoni
innovative Modelle kreiert, die Sambonets Image
auf dem Markt weiter gestärkt haben. Einige
von ihnen, wie die “Pesciera”, die “Center Line”
-Kollektion und die Elite-Tabletts der “Linea 50”,
sind heute im MoMa in New York ausgestellt.
Im Jahr 1990 erfolgt der Markteintritt auf den USamerikanischen Markt durch Sambonet USA Inc.,
die in New Jersey gegründet wurde und den “Italian
Style Market” geschickt verbreitet. Paderno, 1925
gegründet, ist Weltmarktführer in der Herstellung
von Kochgeschirr für den professionellen Gebrauch
und von Küchenartikeln für Großküchen. Die Firma,
die zu dieser Zeit Alluminio Paderno heißt, hat sich
auf die Herstellung von Aluminium-Kochgeschirr
für den Hausgebrauch spezialisiert und wird 1979
von den Brüdern Pierluigi und Franco Coppo, den
derzeitigen Eigentümern der Sambonet Paderno
Industrie Gruppe, übernommen.
Schon bald leiten die beiden jungen Unternehmer
die Umstrukturierung und den Relaunch der
Firma ein, die zu Paderno S.r.l. wird. Neben
Aluminium-Kochgeschirr stellen sie auch INOXStahl-Kochgeschirr her. Innerhalb kürzester Zeit
wird die Produktpalette erweitert und kann so
den Ansprüchen der privaten Haushalte und der
Hotelküchen entsprechen.
Paderno vertreibt ihre Produkte durch spezialisierte
Einzelhändler in weltweit mehr als 120 Ländern
für alle Bereiche der Gastronomie (Restaurants,
Fast-Food-Restaurants,
Hotels,
Großküchen,
Krankenhäuser, Kreuzfahrtschiffe, Militär etc.). Dank
ihrer 80-jährigen Geschichte und der engmaschigen
Präsenz auf den Märkten in Europa, dem Mittleren
und Fernen Osten sowie in Russland, USA und
Australien ist die Firma auf dem internationalen
Markt ein unabdingbarer Bezugspunkt für alle,
die in der Gastronomie arbeiten. Durch das weite
Spektrum der hergestellten Artikel kann die Firma
bestmöglich auf die Bedürfnisse aller Branchen
- vom Catering bis hin zu den Großküchen
allgemein - reagieren. Der Eintritt in die Paderno
Gruppe begünstigt die Vereinigung zweier sich
sowohl in Hinblick auf die Produkte als auch auf
die bedienten Märkte gut ergänzenden Marken
unter einem Dach. Die Verbindung von Sambonet
und Paderno erlaubt es der Gruppe, das Angebot
für die Kunden zu vervollständigen: auf der einen
Seite Sambonets Produkte für den Tisch und auf
der anderen Seite die Küchenprodukte der Marke
Paderno. Im April 2000 erfolgt die Übernahme
von Beard mit Sitz in Montreaux in der Schweiz, die
hundertjährige Erfahrung und internationalen Ruf
hat und deren Qualität in den namhaftesten Hotels
und Restaurants weltweit anerkannt ist.
Als Krönung des Relaunches von Sambonet
S.p.A. wird 2001 die neue Produktionsstätte in
Orfengo (Novara) errichtet, in der die gesamte
Herstellung von Sambonet S.p.A. und Paderno S.r.l.
zusammengeführt wird. Das Gebäude wurde vom
Architekturbüro Frigerio Design Group entworfen
und spiegelt das Image einer Firma wider, die
auf Qualität und Design gründet. So verweist
jeder Gebäudeabschnitt auf ein geometrisches
Segment. Hier gibt es nicht nur Produktionshallen
und Büros, sondern das Gesamtkonzept der
Sambonet-Firmenphilosophie, mit besonderer
Berücksichtigung der Kunden, für die es einen
Show-Room und eine Fabrikverkaufsstelle gibt,
sowie der Mitarbeiter, für die es helle Freizeiträume
mit Fitnessraum, Hallenfußball und Tennisplätzen
gibt. 2004 wird die Produktionsstätte in Orfengo
erweitert und die beiden Firmen fusionieren unter
dem neuen Firmennamen Sambonet Paderno
Industrie S.p.A. Um den neuen Anforderungen
für Logistik und Lagerung gerecht zu werden,
wird 2008 die überdachte Fläche erweitert [50.000
m²], zu einer Industrieanlage, die sich über eine
Fläche von 120.000 m² erstreckt und mehr als 250
Angestellte beschäftigt.
Am 1. August 2009 übernimmt Sambonet
Paderno Industrie die deutsche Firma Rosenthal,
ein namhaftes deutsches Unternehmen der
Porzellan- und Design-Wohnaccessoirebranche
für Privathaushalte. Die Übernahme ermöglicht
Sambonet Paderno Industrie eine Erweiterung
und Bereicherung des Portfolios ihrer Marken
Sambonet, Paderno und Arthur Krupp, die mit
den exklusiven Marken Rosenthal, Thomas
und Hutschenreuther ergänzt werden. So wird
ein Weltmarktführer für Wohnaccessoires und
Tischkultur ins Leben gerufen.

Gli inizi risalgono alla fine del ‘700, quando a
Giuseppe Sambonet, nobiluomo di Vercelli, abile
orafo e argentiere, fu affidato il restauro di preziosi
oggetti sacri custoditi nel duomo di Vercelli. Nel
1856 il figlio Giuseppe, diplomato alle Belle
Arti, ottiene il brevetto di Maestro Orefice e il
15 maggio fonda la ditta Giuseppe Sambonet,
depositando presso la zecca di Torino il punzone
con le iniziali “GS”: celebre marchio destinato a
diventare simbolo della tavola di prestigio. Nel
1900 si merita il titolo di Fornitore Ufficiale di molte
famiglie nobili tra le quali la Duchessa di Genova e
il Conte di Torino. Nel 1932 crea il primo impianto
su scala industriale in Italia, capace di affiancare
ad una produzione di argenteria massiccia una
produzione in argenteria galvanica.
Nel 1938 Sambonet inizia per prima in Italia e
in Europa la produzione di posateria in acciaio
inossidabile e la messa a punto della tecnica per
l’argentatura dell’acciaio, diventando protagonista
indiscussa della “tavola moderna”. Nel 1947 inizia
con tecnologia propria la produzione di coltelli e
lame in acciaio inox. Nel 1956 Sambonet conquista
il mercato internazionale, aggiudicandosi tra
diversi concorrenti la commessa del primo
albergo americano internazionale: l’Hilton Cairo.
E’ da questo momento che Sambonet entra
nell’hotellerie internazionale.
A partire dagli anni ‘60 grandi designer come
Roberto Sambonet, Giò Ponti e Rodolfo Dordoni
hanno creato modelli innovativi che hanno
rafforzato maggiormente l’immagine Sambonet
sul mercato. Alcuni di essi come la “Pesciera”, la
collezione “Center line” e i vassoi Elite della “Linea
50” sono oggi in esposizione al Moma di New
York. Il 1990 è l’anno dell’ingresso nel mercato
statunitense con la Sambonet USA Inc. fondata
nel New Jersey e abile divulgatrice di un “Italian
style market” in continua espansione. Fondata nel
1925, Paderno è leader mondiale nella produzione
di pentolame professionale ed articoli da cucina
per comunità. La società, all’epoca denominata
Alluminio Paderno e specializzata nella produzione
di pentolame in alluminio per la casa, viene rilevata
nel 1979 dai fratelli Pierluigi e Franco Coppo,
attuali proprietari del Gruppo Sambonet Paderno
Industrie. Ben presto i due giovani imprenditori
avviano la ristrutturazione e il rilancio della società,
che diventa Paderno S.r.l. ed affiancano alla
produzione di pentole in allumino quella in acciaio
inox. In breve tempo la gamma di articoli prodotti
si differenzia per soddisfare le esigenze delle
cucine private e le forniture alberghiere.

ristorazione

fast-food,
alberghi,
comunità, ospedali, navi da crociera, enti militari,

Nell’aprile 2000 avviene l’acquisizione di Beard,
con sede a Montreux in Svizzera che ha esperienza
centenaria, reputazione internazionale ma
soprattutto una qualità riconosciuta negli alberghi
e ristoranti più prestigiosi al mondo.
Nel 2001, a coronamento del rilancio della
Sambonet S.p.A., viene costruito un nuovo
stabilimento a Orfengo (Novara) in cui si
concentrano tutte le attività produttive di
Sambonet S.p.A. e Paderno S.r.l. Progettato dallo
studio di Architettura Frigerio Design Group,
l’edificio riflette l’immagine di un’azienda fondata
sulla qualità e sul design nella quale tutti i pezzi
rinviano a un modulo geometrico. Non solo
reparti produttivi e uffici, ma un total concept della
filosofia Sambonet con un’attenzione particolare
ai clienti, grazie a uno show-room e a uno spaccio
aziendale, e ai dipendenti che possono beneficiare
di uno spazio ludico ricreativo adibito a palestra
oltre a campi da calcetto e da tennis. Nel 2004
viene ampliato ulteriormente lo stabilimento di
Orfengo e avviene la fusione delle due società
con la registrazione della nuova ragione sociale
Sambonet Paderno Industrie S.p.A. Nel 2008 la
superficie coperta viene ulteriormente ampliata
[50.000 m²] per sostenere le nuove esigenze
di logistica e stoccaggio per un insediamento
industriale che si sviluppa in 120.000 m² e oltre 250
persone impiegate. Il 1 agosto 2009, Sambonet
Paderno Industrie acquista la tedesca Rosenthal,
prestigioso Gruppo tedesco del settore delle
porcellane e complementi d’arredo di design
per la casa. L’acquisizione consente a Sambonet
Paderno Industrie di ampliare e di arricchire il
proprio portafoglio marchi Sambonet, Paderno
e Arthur Krupp, integrandolo con prestigiosi
brand del settore come Rosenthal, Thomas e
Hutschenreuther, dando così vita a un leader

Over the years, Sambonet has demonstrated
a decided drive towards modernity, as can be
seen in the activities of Roberto Sambonet,
company designer from the Fifties to the end
of the Eighties. Consequently, research into
style, form, functionality and adaptation to
new lifestyles has always been indispensable
for achieving market acknowledgement.
To promote research into reconciliation
between Design, Industry and Market,
Sambonet has established a Style Centre
comprising young designers making use of
cutting-edge design and prototyping tools.
Design, innovation, quality and customer
care are the engines that have constantly
driven the growth of Sambonet, a group

obtained prestigious awards all over the

In 1994, Sambonet received the ADI
(Industrial Design Association) Compasso
d’oro award for the “Hannah” cutlery line
designed by Anna Castelli Ferrieri.
In 2000 Sambonet received a BRANDNEW TRENDS special mention from the
buyers jury during the MACEF trade fair in
Milan and a FORM 2000 mention during the
Frankfurt Fair, both for the “Linea q” cutlery
line.
In 2004, Sambonet Paderno Industrie S.p.A.
received the Contract Design – International
Design Award, an international competition
organised by the Genoa Exhibition Centre
under the patronage of POLIdesign –
Consortium of the Milan Polytechnic and
H&C design – Scientific Observatory on
the tourism and hospitality sectors. The jury
awarded the prize to the company for its
“Imagine” cutlery collection.
In 2006, it obtained the top innovation

content, but also in the service offered to final
customers. Thanks to a fully computerised
delivery system that connects all the picking
and packaging equipment to a WI-Fi radio
system, deliveries become so efficient that
two deliveries a day can be catered for.
The Customs Agency has qualified
Sambonet Paderno Industrie as an
“Authorised Economic Operator (AEO)”.
This authorisation is issued to companies
which satisfy specific customs requirements,
certain accounting and financial solvability
criteria, and suitable safety regulations.

Founded
in
Marktredwitz,
Upper
Franconia, by Fritz Thomas in 1903,
Rosenthal acquired the “F. Thomas,
Marktredwitz porcelain factory” in
1908. In 1960 porcelain manufacturing
was relocated from the factory in
Marktredwitz to the newly-built Thomas
am Kulm Factory in Speichersdorf, Upper
Franconia, the façade of which had been
decorated with geometrical patterns by
Italian architect, Marcello Morandini.
Since the 1950s, THOMAS has been
consistently expanded as a brand
for
young,
design-oriented
and
uncomplicated everyday tableware.
Right into the 1980s, the THOMAS
collections were primarily influenced
by Scandinavian design and its Scandic
range, for example, was awarded the
Faenza Gold Medal.
At the end of the 1980s, THOMAS took
off in new design directions, this time
predominantly influenced by the UK. The
first cookshops replaced the elegantly
set table. During this period, the Trend
service from the Lord Queensberry/
Hunt design school was just one line that
became a big sales success.
In the 1990s, the THOMAS brand was
characterised by new, functional and
simple design which now, in the 21st
century, continues to be implemented
with innovative and modern concepts.

Rosenthal 1908 die Porzellanfabrik „F.
Thomas, Marktredwitz“. 1960 wurde
die Porzellanfertigung vom Werk in
Marktredwitz in das neu gebaute Werk
„Thomas am Kulm“ nach Speichersdorf /
Oberfranken verlegt, dessen Fassade der
italienische Architekt Marcello Morandini
mit geometrischen Mustern gestaltet hat.
Seit den 50er Jahren wurde THOMAS
konsequent als Marke für junges,
designbetontes und unkompliziertes
Gebrauchsgeschirr
ausgebaut.
Bis in die 80er Jahre wurden die
THOMASKollektionen vor allem durch
skandinavisches Design geprägt und
beispielsweise mit der Goldmedaille
von Faenza für die Form „Scandic“
ausgezeichnet.
Ende der 80er Jahre wandte sich THOMAS
neuen Designrichtungen zu, die vor allem
von Großbritannien beeinflusst wurden.
Die ersten „Cookshops“ lösten den
elegant gedeckten Tisch ab. Zu dieser Zeit
hat sich unter anderem das Service „Trend“
aus der Designschule Lord Queensberry/
Hunt zu einem Verkaufserfolg entwickelt.
Die 90er Jahre standen bei THOMAS im
Zeichen eines neuen, funktional schlichten
Designs, das auch im 21. Jahrhundert
weiterhin mit innovativen und modernen
Konzepten umgesetzt wird.
