academicsfrommetropolitanFrance,foraminimumstayoftwoyears.
IFAECI(http://www.cima.fcen.uba.ar/UMI)isaUnitéMixteInternationale(UMI),i.e.,ajointinternationallaboratory,
betweentheCentreNationaldelaRechercheScientifique(CNRS)inFranceandtheConsejoNacionalde
InvestigacionesCientíficasyTécnicas(CONICET)andtheUniversidaddeBuenosAires(UBA)inArgentina.
OnemainmissionoftheUMIistofosterlong-lastingcollaborationsbetweenArgentinaandFrance.IFAECImembers
areexpectedtoactivelydevelopnewcollaborationsandmaintainexistingones.Visitsandexchangesbetween
ArgentinaandFrancearealsostronglyencouraged.
ThebackboneofIFAECIinArgentinaistheCentrodeInvestigacionesdelMarylaAtmósfera(CIMA
http://www.cima.fcen.uba.ar/),ajointinstitutebetweenCONICETandUBA,butitalsoincludesresearchgroups
locatedatdifferentfacilitiesofbothUBAandCONICET,andgathersaround55researchers.ThemainFrench
counterpartofIFAECIistheInstitutPierre-SimonLaplace(IPSLhttps://www.ipsl.fr/)intheParisarea,butcooperation
withotherFrenchpartnersisalsoencouraged.BecauseIFAECIisaCNRSlaboratory,allitsresearchersmayapplyto
callsforprojectsemanatingfromINSU,ANR,etc.,whichhasprovedverysuccessfulinthepastyears.
TheresearchagendaofIFAECIisarticulatedalongthreegeneralaxes:(i)tobetterobserve,understand,simulateand
predictphysicalprocessesdrivingclimatevariabilityandclimatechangeatregionalscaleandateverytemporalscale,
(ii)tofosterstudiesaddressinghowclimatevariabilityandchangewillimpactpopulation,biodiversity,productionand
vulnerability,and(iii)togenerateclimateinformationforapplicationandadaptation.
Geographically,theIFAECIresearchconcerns,firstofall,southeasternSouthAmerica(whichischaracterizedbya
signaloflargeclimatevariabilityandchangeimpactingthesocio-economicregionsofArgentina,Brazil,Uruguayand
Paraguay);theextratropicalAndesregion(whichcontainsvulnerablemountainglaciersandwatersourceswithstrong
socio-economicimpactsonbothArgentinaandChile);theSouthAtlanticOcean(itswesternportionbeingoneofthe
mostproductiveregionsoftheworldandincludingtheRíodelaPlataEstuary,oflargerelevanceforArgentinaand
Uruguay).IFAECIresearchersalsohavestrongcooperationwithcolleaguesofotherinstitutionsofSouthAmerica
(Brazil,Chile,Uruguay,Paraguay,Bolivia,etc.).Becauseofitsstrongemphasisonprocessstudiesandthe
developmentofobservationandmodelingtools,theresearchcarriedoutatIFAECIisalsofullyrelevanttootherparts
oftheworld.

Applicationsfromallfieldsofclimateresearcharewelcome.ApplicantsmustholdapermanentpositioninFrance,
fromapublicresearchorganization(suchasCNRS)orfromauniversityundercoverofaCNRSappointment
(délégationCNRS).Non-CNRSapplicantsshouldinquireabouttheconditionssetupbytheirhomeinstitution,
preferablybeforeapplyingtothepositions.
Theinitialdeadlineforapplicationsis15February2017,andevaluationwillstartimmediatelyafter.Applicationswill
