HAUTE COUTURE SEWING III
COURSE DESCRIPTION
To teach the advanced expressions of hand and machine sewing with a focus on the realization of toiles from the pattern making course. To develop the capacity of each student to finish original creations.
Haute Couture is a hallmark of quality in both hand and machine sewing, as well as finishing. Haute Couture requires in general a great deal of patience, attention to detail, willingness, discipline and above all regular attendance at classes.
PROGRAM
The SEWING III class works in parallel with Fashion Design III and Draping III.
A bustier is the first of a series of haute couture sewing projects presented in conjunction
with Draping and Historical Research and Fashion Design.
Haute Couture techniques will also be explored. However, only the final draping project will
be expected to be finished using a Couture or a semi-Couture technique.
-Needlework will be stitched on the grain without thread but the final product will be one of
quality, done in ‘surfils petite’ at the sewing machine.
-Will work on “flou (non-structured) projects, will study the bias technique and be expected
to use this technique when necessary, will work on hemmed projects with various kinds of
finished flounces.
