Venerdì 21
IN BREVE DALL’UE
1
Sabato 15

http://arirusila.blogactiv.eu/2014/02/13/the-%E2%80%98bosnian-spring%E2%80%99-between-chances/
Over the last several days Bosnia and Herzegovina saw widespread unrest as protesters clashed with police and burn government
buildings, leaving scores injured and arrested, mainly in the ethnically mixed parts of Bosnia that are governed by the Muslim-Croat
Federation (FBiH), while minor protests took place also in the Republika Srpska (RS) towns of Banja Luka and Bijeljina. 30 years ago
Sarajevo hosted the Winter Olympic Games, now however instead of the Olympic flame Bosnians cheered to the flames that
engulfed government buildings.
BRITEXIT2: HOW TO AVOID POISONOUS MYTHS AND A CALAMITY AFTER UK’S REFERENDUM – da Blogactiv – 14 febbraio
http://democracy.blogactiv.eu/2014/02/14/britexit2-how-to-avoid-poisonous-myths-and-a-calamity-after-uksreferendum/#.UwC_QPl5MqQ
If a UK Referendum to leave the EU succeeded, Britain would have to deal with a complex, new set of negotiations. They would have
to deal both with facts of commerce and economy but also with myths that would reinforce treating the UK as an unreliable partner.
Material loss from a poor negotiating stance would only be part of the story. If Britain was left with an unfounded reputation as a
wrecker and trouble-maker it would be far worse for its future.

WHY THE THREE BIGGEST ECONOMIC LESSONS WERE FORGOTTEN – da Social Europe Journal di Robert Reich - 12 febbraio

Why has America forgotten the three most important economic lessons we learned in the thirty years following World War II? Before
I answer that question, let me remind you what those lessons were:
ARE THE UK FLOODS DAVID CAMERON’S KATRINA? – da Social Europe Journal di Simon Wren-Lewis – 11 febbraio

There are three reasons why the government should be very worried about the political fallout from the unprecedented level of UK
flooding.
UKRAINE & EASTERN EUROPE: LEAKED ‘NON-PAPER’ – da Brussels Blog di Peter Spiegel – 10 febbraio
http://blogs.ft.com/brusselsblog/2014/02/ukraine-eastern-europe-leaked-non-paper/
One of the lingering questions left after Ukraine’s failure to sign its long-negotiated integration treaty with the EU at a November
summit in Vilnius – setting off months of protests in Kiev – is whether more needs to be offered to former Soviet republics than the
current “Eastern Partnership”, which promises “association” but not future membership with the EU.
DOES ANYBODY LOVE THE TROIKA? – da Brussels Blog di Andrew Byrne – 13 febbraio
http://blogs.ft.com/brusselsblog/2014/02/does-anybody-love-the-troika/
The troika of bailout lenders has not been getting much love at the European Parliament’s ongoing inquiry into its activities in recent
weeks. But the criticism is not just coming from MEPs in the throes of election fever. Predictions of the troika’s demise have come
from some unexpected quarters, including current and former members of the European Central Bank executive board.
LEAKED ‘ISSUES NOTE’: WHO PAYS FOR EU BANK BAILOUTS? – da Brussels Blog di Peter Spiegel – 14 febbraio
http://blogs.ft.com/brusselsblog/2014/02/leaked-issues-note-who-pays-for-eu-bank-bailouts/
For those not following every twist and turn in the EU’s debate over how to bail out failing banks, it may come as a bit of a surprise
that finance ministers are still fighting over who pays for a collapsed financial institution given the deal struck in December on this
very issue.

febbraio
http://www.touteleurope.eu/actualite/referendum-suisse-sur-limmigration-trois-questions-a-catherine-de-wenden.html

SNATCHING THE BATON – da Charlemagne – 13 febbraio
http://www.economist.com/blogs/charlemagne/2014/02/italys-government
In the ever-inventive political slang of Italy, it was a staffetta—a relay, or handover. But it looked more as if the baton was being torn
from the runner’s hand. On February 13th a meeting of the centre-left Democratic Party (PD) passed what amounted to a motion of
no confidence in the prime minister, Enrico Letta (pictured), himself a member of the PD. As a result, he decided reluctantly to step
aside in favour of his party’s ravenously ambitious new leader, Matteo Renzi, who has for months now been decrying the
performance of Mr Letta’s government.

Known for rambling monologues, Martin Schulz, president of the European Parliament, struggles to attract much attention in his
home continent. But his speech Wednesday in the Israeli Knesset prompted walkouts and heckles as well as criticism from Israeli
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his native Germany.
