ARE HOMOSEXUALS BORN THAT WAY OR NOT - IS THAT THE RIGHT QUESTION? EN (Twenty seven activists from around the word highlight some homophobic and eugenicist aspects of a piece of research on the pre-birth origins of homosexuality.) Press release No. TR10SOC12 Paris, Monday 17 May 2010 On the occasion of the sixth International Day against all forms of homophobia (against lesbians, gays, bi- and trans- sexuals) Tjenbé Rèd announces the publication of an international letter by twenty seven activists in Africa, Latin America and Europe - “To be or not to be born homosexual; is that the question?” -, including Tjenbé Rèd, Africades, CHÉ (Gay Students at the free University of Brussels), Contact Aquitaine, Couleurs gaies, FAU (MidiPyrénées Federation of people from overseas France), SMUG Ouganda, SASOD Guyana, Strass, Swissgay.ch and Trans Aide, as well as Lounès CHIKHI, Martine GROSS, Louis-Georges TIN and Élisabeth ZUCKER-ROUVILLOIS. This international collective letter constitutes a «first reaction to a publication by Pr. Jacques Balthazart of the University of Liège, which aimed to demonstrate the pre-birth origins of homosexuality, a move which sometimes echoes certain homophobic, indeed eugenicist, theories». It is published in French by the magazine Minorités [1], and in English by the magazine MOC (Men of Colour, who has edited in a more concise form the English version provided by us) [2]: [1] http://www.minorites.org/index.php/3-lagence/745-naitre-ou-nepasnaitre-homosexuel-est-ce-la-question.html [2] http://anonymouse.org/cgi-bin/anonwww.cgi/http://www.ukmoc.com/opinions.html By Tjenbé Rèd (Federation for the struggle against all forms of racism and homophobia, and AIDS), President, David AUERBACH CHIFFRIN +33 (0)6 10 55 63 60 [email protected] TJENBÉ RÈD !
