“Escape to the Château Country”
8 days – 7 nights .
DAY 1: Arrival in Tours
You arrive in Tours by yourself and you go to your hotel (10 minute walking distance from the train
station). Sometime in the afternoon we will meet you in our shop in Tours and we will give you your
road books, your bikes and any information you need.
DAY 2: Tours / Azay-le-Rideau.....
..... 32 km
Following the "Loire à Vélo" itinerary, along the Cher River, you reach Château de Villandry which
offers the best example in France of formal Renaissance gardens. You travel through the country
towards Azay-le Rideau, a pretty little town which delicate Renaissance castle seems to float in the
Indre River.
DAY 3 : Azay-le-Rideau / Chinon.....
..... 42 km
Today you cycle towards Langeais and its 15th Century fortress, and later you reach Château
d’Ussé, the enchanting castle of Sleeping Beauty. You proceed through woods and vineyards of the
Chinon area – wine tasting is recommended en route! – and you arrive in the medieval town of
Chinon.
DAY 4: Chinon / Chinon.....
..... 45 km
You cross a picturesque landscape enamelled with old villages, private chateaux… here you are in
the heart of the Touraine County. Reach the village of L’Ile-Bouchard. For a longer option: cycle to
Crissay-sur-Manse, one of the Most Beautiful Villages of France. Come back to Chinon along the
"Route des Vins".
DAY 5: Chinon / Saumur.....
..... 40 km
You reach the Royal Abbey of Fontevraud, one of the biggest abbeys of western Christendom. You
discover the exceptional sites of Candes-Saint-Martin and Montsoreau, two other of the Most
Beautiful Villages of France and you end the day in Saumur.
DAY 6: Saumur / Brissac-Quincé.....
..... 42 km
Following the quiet course of the Loire River, you cross numerous beautiful villages offering an
exceptional variety of religious monuments, Roman traces, private châteaux, etc... Ride across
fields and vineyards and forests to reach Brissac dominated by an imposing castle.
DAY 8: Brissac-Quincé / Angers.....
..... 32 km
You cycle across the vineyards of Coteau de l’Aubance and Anjou-Village, which are both renown for
their beautiful white wines. Here the countryside is the perfect illustration of what we call in French
« la douceur angevine » - the sweetness of the county of Angers. Soon you ride between the Louet
and the Loire rivers, until you reach Angers.
DAY 9: Depart from Angers
End of the tour after breakfast. You leave the bikes at the hotel.
