Project Co-PI and Co-Coordinator for Comorbidity Algorithms Project (COMAP), 2000 to 2004 Southwest Institute for Addictive Diseases (SWIAD), Department of Neuropsychiatry, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, Lubbock, Texas. COMAP was a joint project between the Department of Neuropsychiatry and the Texas Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation (TDMHMR). Responsibilities included grant proposal writing/development, conference planning, and the preparation of extensive literature reviews that provided the scientific basis for proposed medication algorithms to be developed in a national consensus conference of physicians gathered from around the world and the State of Texas. These algorithms would be used to more effectively treat patients with co-occurring disorders. Additionally, extensive literature reviews were completed in relation to psychosocial treatment algorithms and family therapy algorithms and proposals were prepared to submit for additional conference grants prior to leaving this position. Project Co-Administrator for Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, Federal Probation Services Agreement, 2003 to 2004 Southwest Institute for Addictive Diseases (SWIAD), Department of Neuropsychiatry, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, Lubbock, Texas. Provided project oversight, consultation and supervision to project directors with specific supervisory responsibility for the mental health and family services portion of the agreement. Provided capitated EAP and addiction services representing more than 55,000 covered lives to state agencies, municipalities, corporations, school districts and hospitals. (Unfunded, 2006) ($1,400,000) Competitive grant to study and provide services to recovery communities. Funds submitted through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration (SAMHSA). Collegiate Recovery Community Prevention Enhancement Project, Shumway, S. T., Kimball, T.G., & Harris, K.—Co-Investigator (Unfunded, 2006) ($175,000) Proposed to enhance services and research at the Center for the Study of Addiction and Recovery. Funds submitted through the U.S. Department of Education. Recipient of Law Enforcement and Corrections Grant, National Institute of Justice (NIJ), 1999 (Funded, 2002) ($100,000) Developed, wrote and submitted the grant. Grant funds were provided to develop and evaluate a stress management program for Police officers and their spouses. Wrote a police officer and spouse relationship training curriculum as part of this grant. Recipient of the National Institute of Drug Abuse (NIDA) Conference Grant, (Funded, 2002) 5 ($50,000) Grant funds were provided to develop medication algorithms for dually diagnosed patients. Developed the comprehensive literature review and organized and hosted the national conference to develop best practices on co-occurring disorders. Physicians, Psychologists, and other mental health professionals participated from around the country to develop best practice algorithms for those struggling with a mental health and addictive disorder. Contracts Project Co-Administrator for Contracted Services, United States District Court, Northern District: Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services, (Funded June, 2003) ($300,000 over three fiscal years) Funds were provided to offer substance abuse and mental health services for federal probationers. Co-administered all elements of program development, operations, and USPO relations. Was in-charge of research development for the project. Internal Funding New Faculty Research Seed Grant, College of Human Sciences, (Funded Fall, 2005 – 2006) ($4,500) Funds were provided to adapt stages of change and motivational interviewing techniques to encourage retirement planning success.
