Do not stop here are photo installations that examine transitional spaces. The images work as metaphors
for travel from one world to another, one state of mind to another. This idea is informed by my
childhood memory of regularly crossing the Victoria Bridge into and out of Montreal. The passage was
always frightening and exciting, and the worlds at either end were completely distinct. The opportunity
to travel from one country to another with relative ease is enticing for those dissatisfied with the place
that they are in — or those with a sense of adventure. What of the person who stops on a bridge or in
a passageway? They are in a neutral space, and don’t have to answer to either side. Both photo
installations depict remnants of human activity, including that of the artist, in a transitional space.
Les installations photographiques, do not stop here, examinent les espaces transitoires. Les images
agissent comme métaphores du voyage d’un monde à l’autre, d’un état d’esprit à l’autre. Cette idée est
inspirée par un souvenir de mon enfance : la traversée régulière du pont Victoria vers et hors de
Montréal. Cette traversée m’effrayait et m’excitait à chaque fois, et les univers aux deux pôles étaient
parfaitement distincts. L’occasion de voyager d’un pays à l’autre avec une facilité relative est attrayante
pour les personnes insatisfaites de l’endroit où elles se trouvent – ou qui ont le sens de l’aventure. Que
penser des personnes qui s’arrêtent sur un pont ou dans un passage? Elles se trouvent dans un espace
neutre et n’ont de comptes à rendre à aucun des deux côtés. Les deux installations photographiques
représentent des vestiges de l’activité humaine, incluant celle de l’artiste dans un espace transitoire.

funcionan como metáforas para viajar desde un mundo a otro, de un estado de mente a otro. Esta idea
está basada en una memoria de mi niñez, de cruzar regularmente del puente Victoria, a y fuera de
Montreal. El viaje fue siempre espantoso y emotivo, y los mundos en éste o en el otro final, eran
completamente distintos. La oportunidad de viajar de un país a otro, con relativa facilidad, es seductora
para aquellos/as insatisfechos/as con el lugar donde viven o aquellos/as con sentido de aventura. Qué
de una persona que para en un puente o en un callejón? Ellos/as están en un espacio neutral, y no
tienen que responder a ninguno de los dos lados. Ambas instalaciones de fotos describen vestigios de
actividad humana, incluyendo la del artista, en un espacio transicional.

Ron Edding is a visual artist and educator who lives and works in Toronto. He works in mixed media,
photography, and performance. He has recently exhibited in Europe, South America, Mexico, and Canada.
Ron Edding teaches visual arts to young children and remains very involved with artist-run culture.
Ron Edding est un artiste visuel et un éducateur qui vit et travaille à Toronto. Il pratique les techniques
mixtes, la photographie et la performance. Il a récemment exposé son travail en Europe, en Amérique
du Sud, au Mexique et au Canada. Ron Edding enseigne les arts visuels aux jeunes enfants et participe
toujours activement à la culture des centres d’artistes.
Ron Edding, es un artista visual y educador, que vive y trabaja en Toronto. Edding utiliza diversas
técnicas de expresión artística, fotografía y actuación. Ron ha expuesto recientemente en Europa, Sur
América, México y Canadá. El también enseña arte visual a los jóvenes, y se mantiene muy
comprometido con los centros culturales dirigidos por artistas.
