Grade 2 students will earn clothespins when they communicate in French with peers and teachers! Ask them about their progress! Grade 1 students will participate in this activity later on this year. In October, we focus on « FAIRNESS » and discuss how we can display it at school and at home: I share I wait for my turn I make sure others get a turn I understand that I can’t always win I follow rules when I play with friends Les centres de littératie Students begin work in French literacy centres this month. They will work on a variety of French oral, reading and writing skills in these centres. Ask them about it! Les devoirs de français Thank you for taking the time to support your child when he/she is completing homework. French homework supports classroom learning and helps students develop confidence with new concepts and vocabulary. In November, Grade 2 students will begin taking home French books to share and read with you. Most Grade 1 students will begin doing this in January, once they reach a certain level of reading in the English language. If you are looking for extra ideas for homework, I suggest focussing on building vocabulary through games, pictures books and conversations. I will also send website addresses from time to time, that you can enjoy together. Do not hesitate to share interesting ones that you may come across while surfing on-line! Français immersion AIM: les actions The AIM program incorporates DRAMA to help students learn basic language structures and vocabulary. This year, the play is entitled: Les trois petits cochons Students will be introduced to the play this month. We will work with it throughout the year and present it to parents and peers at the end of the school year. We will keep you posted on our progress! IDEAS TO PRACTICE COUNTING IN FRENCH: - Dictate numbers and have your child write them - Use flashcards - Play board games like Trouble and count in French - Count objects at home: stairs, books, utensils, days on the calendar, chairs, windows! - Talk about dates, age, the temperature in French! Rappel (reminders) aux amis Bring a large shirt/smock for painting To facilitate circulation of library books, students will now be taking ONE book weekly. We will alternate French and English books. They are invited to bring in leaves, bark, sand paper, textured wallpaper, etc. We will use these materials to create textured drawings of nature.
