Soirée à la Girafe, looking for female stilt walker (échassier/acrobate)
Two hundred years ago, after a long and tumultuous journey, a ship entered the port of Marseille. On
board was a Giraffe, the first one in the history of modern Europe. It was a gift from the viceroy of Egypt
to the king of France, Charles X. Immediately after its arrival, fashionable ladies and en vogue dandy?s
started to imitate the Giraffe?s looks. They modelled their hair after the Giraffe?s long neck, une coiffure
à la Girafe was born, women?s dresses and robes were made in the most beautiful yellow and ochre
colours. Even in music the Giraffe made its appearance.
This strange history together with the music has inspired me to write the screenplay Soirée à la Girafe. A
melodious melodrama about Zélise, a woman of noble birth, who identifies with the Giraffe in her
Sehnsucht. She organises a soirée to celebrate the arrival of the noble quadruped at her charming
château. It?s about the thin line between dream and reality, the tragedy of a woman chained to the rules
of her own social background. Formally the film situates itself between an opera and ballet d?action.
For the Giraffe?s role, Zarafa, i?m looking for a female artist who is able to walk on four stilts (max. age
26/27). The film will be shot somewhere in the middle of July 2015 for a period of five days (in Belgium).
The director of the film is Pim Dinghs, a master student Audiovisual Arts at Sint-Lukas Brussels.
