Marta Segarra is Professor of French and Francophone literature
Marta Segarra is Professor of French and Francophone literature and of Gender Studies
at the University of Barcelona, and director of the UNESCO Chair Women,
Development and Cultures at this university, as well as Associate Scholar at the Centre
d’Études féminines et d’études de genre at Université Paris 8. She has lectured or taught
at the Collège international de Philosophie, Sorbonne, Leipzig, Harvard, Brown,
Cornell, Dartmouth, Tulane, La Habana, Buenos Aires, among other universities. Her
research focuses on French and Francophone contemporary literature, deconstruction,
Hélène Cixous, gender and sexuality, and postcolonial studies. She has extensively
published in these fields, most recently the books Teoría de los cuerpos agujereados
(2014), Nouvelles romancières francophones du Maghreb (2010), The Portable Cixous
(ed., Columbia UP, 2010) and Traces du désir (2008). She has edited several books on
Cixous's oeuvre, in French, English and Spanish, such as Rêver, croire, penser - autour
d'Hélène Cixous (with Bruno Clément, 2010) or L'Evenement comme écriture. Lire
Cixous et Derrida (2007). She is General Editor of the Series ‘Mujeres y Culturas’,
published by Icaria Editorial, and of the journal Expressions maghrébines.
