The next issue of Statistics Canada's free online publication "Education Matters: Insights on Education,
Learning and Training in Canada", will be released on Thursday, April 29, 2010 in the Statistics Canada
Daily. The Daily can be downloaded at no charge from the Statistics Canada website
(www.statcan.gc.ca).
This issue contains two articles:
"Women in Non-traditional Occupations and Fields of Study" takes stock of changes that have taken
place over time in the occupations held by women in the labour market and in the fields of study they are
choosing at the postsecondary level. It demonstrates where changes have occurred and suggests where
change may happen in future as a result of shifts in the composition of postsecondary education
graduates.
“New Perspectives on Access to Postsecondary Education” summarizes the findings from a group of
researchers who combined their efforts to provide new insights not only into issues pertaining to access
to postsecondary education, but also persistence through to completion and other related issues, using
data from the Youth in Transition Survey.
This issue also includes a series of new tables, along with a fact sheet, entitled "Interrupting High School
and Returning to Education," which are part of the Pan-Canadian Education Indicators Program.
The April issue of "Education Matters: Insights on Education, Learning and Training in Canada" (81-004XIE, free) will be available on Statistics Canada's website (www.statcan.gc.ca), beginning April 29, 2010.

INDICATORS PROGRAM, APRIL 2010
The April 2010 issue of "Education Indicators In Canada: Report Of The Pan-Canadian Education
Indicators Program" will also be released on Thursday, April 29, 2010 in the Statistics Canada Daily.
The Pan-Canadian Education Indicators Program (PCEIP) draws from a wide variety of data sources to
provide information on the school-age population, elementary, secondary and postsecondary education,
transitions, and labour market outcomes.
PCEIP products include tables and charts, fact sheets, reports and a methodological handbook. They
present indicators for all of Canada, the provinces, the territories, as well as selected international
comparisons and comparisons over time.
These tables and charts update or add to those published in previous issues. New versions will be added
several times a year.
The Pan-Canadian Education Indicators Program (PCEIP) is an ongoing initiative of the Canadian
Education Statistics Council, a partnership between Statistics Canada and the Council of Ministers of
Education, Canada, that provides a set of statistical measures on education systems in Canada.

RETURNING TO EDUCATION"
A fact sheet from the Pan-Canadian Education Indicators Program entitled "Interrupting High School and
Returning to Education" will also be released on Thursday, April 29, 2010 in the Statistics Canada Daily.
This fact sheet looks at the proportion of young adults who have ever left high school without a diploma,
and, among them, at the proportions who have returned to get a high school diploma and who progressed
to postsecondary education. Knowing about the progress of these students helps us consider their needs
and understand the value of second-chance programs.

Le prochain numéro de la publication en ligne gratuite « Questions d'éducation : le point sur l'éducation,
l'apprentissage et la formation au Canada », sera diffusé le jeudi 29 avril dans Le Quotidien de Statistique
Canada. Le Quotidien peut être téléchargé sans frais à partir du site Web de Statistique Canada
(www.statcan.gc.ca).
Ce numéro présente deux articles :
« Les femmes dans les professions et les domaines d’études non traditionnels » fait état des
changements observés dans les professions occupées par des femmes sur le marché du travail et dans
les domaines d’études que les femmes choisissent au niveau postsecondaire. Il montre où cette évolution
s’est manifestée et où elle pourrait se poursuivre à l’avenir à la suite de mutations dans la répartition des
diplômés de niveau postsecondaire.
«Nouveaux points de vue en ce qui a trait à l’accès aux études postsecondaires » présente un résumé
des conclusions d’un groupe de chercheurs qui ont récemment décidé d’unir leurs efforts pour essayer de
comprendre non seulement les facteurs influençant l’accès aux études postsecondaires, mais également
les facteurs influençant la persévérance des étudiants au niveau postsecondaire et d’autres questions
connexes, à l’aide des données de l’Enquête auprès des jeunes en transition.
En outre, ce numéro comprend une série de nouveaux tableaux et un feuillet d'information, intitulé «
Abandonner l’école et y retourner », qui font partie du Programme d'indicateurs pancanadiens de
l'éducation.
Le numéro de avril 2010 de « Questions d'éducation : le point sur l'éducation, l'apprentissage et la
formation au Canada » (81-004-XIF, gratuit) sera accessible sur le site Web de Statistique Canada

Le numéro de avril 2010 de « Indicateurs de l'éducation au Canada : rapport du programme d'indicateurs
pancanadiens de l'éducation » sera également diffusé le jeudi 29 avril 2010 dans Le Quotidien de
Statistique Canada.
Le Programme d'indicateurs pancanadiens de l'éducation (PIPCE) fait appel à plusieurs sources pour
renseigner sur la population d'âge scolaire, l'enseignement primaire, secondaire et postsecondaire, et à
propos des transitions et des résultats sur le marché du travail.
Les produits PIPCE incluent des tableaux et des graphiques, des feuillets d'information, des rapports et
un manuel méthodologique. Ils présentent des indicateurs pour l'ensemble du Canada, les provinces, les
territoires, de même que des comparaisons dans le temps et certaines comparaisons internationales.
Ces tableaux et graphiques viennent mettre à jour ou augmenter ceux publiés dans les numéros
précédents. De nouvelles versions seront ajoutées plusieurs fois par année.
Le Programme d'indicateurs pancanadiens de l'éducation (PIPCE) est une initiative en cours du Conseil
des statistiques canadiennes de l'éducation, qui est lui-même un partenariat entre Statistique Canada et
le Conseil des ministres de l'Éducation (Canada), visant à fournir un ensemble de mesures statistiques
sur les systèmes d'éducation au Canada.

Un feuillet d'information provenant du Programme d'indicateurs pancanadiens de l'éducation, intitulé «
Abandonner l’école et y retourner », sera également diffusé le jeudi 29 avril 2010 dans Le Quotidien de
Statistique Canada.
Ce feuillet d’information explore la proportion d’élèves qui ont abandonné leurs études secondaires à un
moment donné, avant d’obtenir un diplôme, et, parmi eux, la proportion de ceux qui ont repris leurs
études et obtenu un diplôme et la proportion de ceux qui ont poursuivi des études postsecondaires.
