Faites l'inventaire des pièces ou composants nécessaires avant chaque opération. Attention de ne pas égarer les petites pièces mécaniques. Surtout n'enlevez pas les composants de leur plaquette avant d'avoir lu "Montage des composants". De la propreté : Gardez toujours les mains propres pendant chaque phase de montage. Nous vous livrons un circuit imprimé "chimiquement neutre". Ne le souillez pas ! (Attention aux mains grasse, en sueur). NB : when using the instrument check that each range is operating correctly. A range could be malfunctioning, perhaps because of a dry solder joint, even though the other ranges are working quite correctly. FACILE LE MONTAGE DU C.A 406 "KIT" ! Un peu de lecture : suivez une à une les opérations décrites. Un peu de réflexion pour identifier les résistances par leur code des couleurs. Un peu de dextérité pour assembler et souder les différents éléments. VOTRE C.A 406 EST MONTÉ ? Figure 29 : mechanical zero Un peu de patience. La mesure électrique a ses lois. Avant de relier votre C.A 406 à la première prise électrique venue, prenez le temps de lire le Mode d'Emploi joint. Vous tirerez le meilleur parti de votre instrument de mesure. INVENTAIRE Dans la boîte du C.A 406 KIT vous devez trouver : - la présente notice de montage, - 1 mode d'emploi, - 1 jeu de 2 cordons de sécurité (noir/rouge), - 1 pile 1,5 V, - 4 sachets plastiques : . 1 sachet "commutateur" . 1 sachet "composants" . 1 sachet "pièces mécaniques", . 1 sachet "boîtier" (avec galvanomètre mis en place et circuit imprimé nu), OUTILLAGE NÉCESSAIRE Pour mener à bien le montage de votre C.A 406 vous aurez besoin de : Figure 30 : Adjustment of R1 and R2 - 50 1 pince plate d'électricien, une pince "brucelle"(ou pince "bec fin") et une pince coupante, 2 tournevis isolés dont 1 cruciforme, 1 fer à souder d'environ 40 W, de la soudure (à 60 % d'étain, à âme décapante, non corrosive, diamètre de 1 à 1,5 mm). 3 OPÉRATION I MONTAGE DES PIÈCES MÉCANIQUES Vous avez besoin du circuit imprimé (CI) et du sachet "pièces mécaniques". INVENTAIRE DU SACHET "PIÈCES MÉCANIQUES" - 2 4 1 2 4 2 4 2 2 1 4 2 1 douilles métalliques à "2 pattes", supports de fusibles (métalliques), support de pile (en plastique blanc), contacts de pile (métalliques), cosses picots (métalliques), isolants de bornes (en plastique rouge et noir), vis cruciformes, vis imperdables, fusibles, bouton de tarage ohm (plastique gris), patins antidérapants, clips porte-fusibles (plastique noir), étiquette autocollante. SORTIR LE CI DU BOITIER Le CI (en verre époxy de couleur verte) est encliqueté dans le boîtier. Pour l'extraire, glissez la pointe du tournevis plat entre le CI et le boîtier au niveau des ergots et faite levier (voir schéma 1). STAGE VIII CALIBRATION AND USE Having arrived at this point, your C.A 406 is completely assembled but not yet ready for use ! You are now going to calibrate it for accuracy. (Adjustment of potentiometers R1 and R2). Two situations are possible : A ) YOU DO NOT HAVE CALIBRATION EQUIPMENT AVAILABLE : • Lay the C.A 406 on its back, bring the needle to 0 on the scale by means of the mechanical zero adjustment (see fig. 29). • Open the case and set potentiometers R1 and R2 to their mid-position, using a small screwdriver (see fig. 30). The accuracy of your C.A 406 is now ± 5 %. Now carry out the two following operations, after having closed your instrument. • Checking the Ohmmeter Connect the test leads. Black to COM and Red to +. Switch to x 1 Ω on the selector switch. Short circuit the test prods (see User's manual : Resistance measurement). The meter needle should swing towards 0 on the green (Ω) scale. Using the zero Ω adjuster on the right of the switch, set the needle to 0. You have now calibrated the ohmmeter. • Testing a new 1.5V or 9V battery As appropriate set the switch to 3V DC or 10V DC. Place the test prods on the battery contacts (according to the polarity). The needle should swing towards division 15 against the black 0-30 scale (representing 1.5 V dc) or towards division 90 approx. against the black 0-100 (representing 9 V dc) depending upon the battery used. NB : commercial batteries are not calibrated. Their values can fluctuate around 1.5 V (or 9 V). • Now read the measurement. USER MANUAL before making other types of B ) YOU HAVE CALIBRATION EQUIPMENT AVAILABLE : You will need calibrated 100 mV dc and 30 mA ac supplies (or a variable supply and a calibrated test instrument). • Adjusting potentiometer R1 (see fig. 30). Open the case. Switch the selector to the 100 mV dc range. Connect the test leads to the calibrated 100 mV supply. Adjust R1 to bring the needle to 100 on the black 0-100 scale. En particulier, n'apposez pas vos empreintes sur le CI, mais prenez-le plutôt par la tranche pour éviter toute salissûre. 4 • Adjusting potentiometer R2 (see fig. 30). Switch the selector to the 30 mA ac range. Connectly connect the test leads to the calibrated 30 mA supply. Adjust R2 to bring the needle to 30 on the red 0-30 scale. 49 Figure 27 : fitting the fuse holder clips Attention : manipulation à proscrire. Une fois le CI enlevé du boîtier, vous apercevez la platine (blanche) supportant le galvanomètre et le cadran avec échelles graduées. Cette platine est déjà correctement positionnée. Surtout ne l'enlevez pas, sous peine d'annulation de la garantie. Vous risquez de salir le cadran et d'infliger des mauvais traitement à l'aiguille du galvanomètre. ÉQUIPONS LE CI In these clips you can later put the spare fuse if you want to. B ) MOUNTING THE NON SLIP PADS On the back of the case you can now see a fold away stand that will enable you to use your multimeter in an inclined position. When using your instrument laid flat, it will stand on the pads that you must push into their holes. You can use the tip of the screwdriver to push the pads into the holes. Le CI comporte 2 faces : une face "composants" (chaque élément est repéré par un rectangle avec sa référence) et une face "soudure". Vous placerez donc les éléments sur la face composants. A ) MONTAGE DES 2 DOUILLES. Les mettre en place suivant le schéma 2. Il faut légèrement forcer pour l'introduction des douilles dans le CI : les pattes sont carrées et les trous sont ronds (c'est étudié pour ! ). C ) FITTING THE TOOL RELEASE SCREWS B ) MONTAGE DES 4 SUPPORTS FUSIBLES. These 2 screws are used for opening and closing the case. Take the base of the case and turn it over (the side with pads and stand towards you). Screw the tool release screws right into the holes at the top provided for them. They are a bit tight to screw up, but you will soon see why they are tool release screws. Now you can close your case by positioning the bottom of the back in the back of the case, then close it and screw up the two tool release screws (see figure 28). Les mettre en place suivant le schéma 3. Avec la pince plate, rabattre légèrement les pattes de l'autre côté du CI. Encliqueter les fusibles correspondants dans les supports. Par la suite, quand vous devez souder les supports, leur alignement sera parfait puisque les fusibles seront déjà montés (il suffisait d'y penser ! ). C ) MONTAGE DU SUPPORT DE PILE ET DE SES 2 CONTACTS. Figure 28 : closing the case Faire correspondre le + du boîtier de la pile avec le + sérigraphié sur le CI. Passer les 2 contacts de pile dans les fentes prévues à cet effet et vriller légèrement les pattes avec la pince plate de l'autre côté du CI (Voir schéma 4). Pièces restantes. A cette étape du montage, il vous reste pour les opérations ultérieures : - 4 cosses picots, - 4 vis, - 2 isolants de borne, - 1 bouton de tarage, - 4 patins antidérapants (plastique noir), - 2 clips porte-fusibles (plastique noir), - 1 étiquette autocollante. Right, your instrument is finished. STAGE VII FINISHING THE CASE How many parts are there left now ? 2 fuse holder clips, 4 non-slip pads, 2 tool release screws and the self-adhesive label : great, we've nearly finished our work ! A ) FITTING THE FUSE HOLDER CLIPS 6 Hold the base of the case (The second part of the case that we have not used yet). Look inside, in the housing at the bottom, you will see the 2 blind holes which will take the fuse holder clips. Insert them in these holes. If necessary, to make it easier use a screwdriver to push in the clips (see figure 27). 47 OPÉRATION II MONTAGE DES COMPOSANTS ■ Still with the tweezers, pass the second wire (+G) of the galvanometer (the one that comes out of the plastic cap) and the copper covered earth lug into the large central hole in the PCB (see figure 22). ■ Check that the axis of the switch is in line with the switch slot, that no wire is pinched and then press down on the PCB. This time the plastic cap of the galvanometer and the axis of the switch must come through the PCB (the wires and the lug too). Figure 24 : click the PCB in the case Le CI est maintenant équipé des "pièces mécaniques". Vous pouvez ouvrir le sachet "composants" pour procéder à leur montage sur la face "composants" du CI. Inventaire du sachet "composants" : - 1 plaquette. Elle comporte 37 composants montés avec une machine à insertion automatique. Chaque composant est plié au pas (ils doivent donc tous rentrer facilement dans les trous du CI). - 3 potentiomètres. - 2 potentiomètres identiques (R1 et R2) pour le réglage final de votre appareil, - 1 potentiomètre R3 pour le tarage de la fonction ohmmètre. NOMENCLATURE Chaque composant est référencé sur le CI (Par exemple R16 ). Ces références correspondent aux valeurs suivantes : ■ ■ Click the PCB into the case by using a screwdriver and making a movement which is the reverse of dismantling. (Do you remember the start of "Assembling the mechanical parts"). The screwdriver is used as a lever to free the lugs and allow the PCB to pass. Now you only have to fix the PCB in the case with the 4 cross-headed screws (1 at each corner). D ) SOLDERING THE 2 WIRES, AND THE GALVANOMETER EARTH TAG, TO THE 3 TERMINAL POSTS Tin the 3 terminal posts. Solder the wire coming out of the hole (next to the mark) to terminal post - G. Solder the 2nd wire, projecting from the plastic cap, to terminal post + G. Cut the end of the copper earth lug, approx. 5 mm below the round chip. Then solder the end of it to the lug marked (see fig. 25). E ) MOUNTING THE OHMMETER CALIBRATION KNOB With the aid of the calibration knob, adjust potentiometer R3 until the arrow is pointing down as shown in figure 26A. Turn the case over and place the knob in position with the spigot facing downwards (see fig. 26B). Check that the arrow and the knob are correctly aligned before pushing it right home. F ) INSTALLING THE BATTERY Make sure that the polarity is correct (battery + to battery holder +). Rassurez-vous, votre multimètre n'en a pas besoin ! ■ Place the PCB in the case, sliding the socket insulators into the special holes provided, from the top of the case (see figure 22). Figure 22 : PCB correctly placed in the case IDENTIFIONS LES COMPOSANTS ■ Figure 21 B Prenez la plaquette supportant les composants et regardez le schéma 5. Vous pouvez facilement identifier le condensateur et les 7 diodes. Le condensateur est polarisé et les diodes ont un sens : il faudra en tenir compte au montage. ■ Pour identifier les résistances, vous devez utiliser le code des couleurs (bien connu de tous les électroniciens). Le tableau du schéma 6 vous rappelle ce code et pour vous aider un peu, nous vous donnons 2 exemples de lecture de valeurs de résistances (R36=5,1 kΩ à 5 % et R17=5,36 kΩ à 0,5 %). NB : ■ si vous avez réellement un problème insoluble d'identification, vous pourrions vous aider, mais "souffler n'est pas jouer ! " Restent les 3 potentiomètres. R1 et R2 sont identiques. R3, le plus gros, est destiné au tarage de l'ohmmètre. ■ With the tweezers, pass the wire (later to be soldered to the - G lug) which comes out of the white plate into the hole in the PCB next to the lug marked (see figure 23). Figure 23 : wire G going through the PCB 8 45 STAGE VI MOUNTING THE PCB The PCB can be installed in the case without too many difficulties, if you note the following points. Of course, you must place the PCB in the rubber casing with the components facing upwards as shown in Fig 20. But to do this you must first prepare the galvanometer. Figure 20 : mounting the PCB PROCÉDURE DE MONTAGE DES COMPOSANTS Maintenant que vous avez identifié chaque composant vous allez les monter sur le C.I. et ensuite vous les souderez tous. Pour cela, respectez l'ordre de montage des composants. Avec la pince plate, décambrez les 2 pattes du composant identifié. L'extraire délicatement de la platine avec la pince brucelle et repérez sa position sur le CI Présentez-le sur le CI et inserrer les pattes dans les trous prévus à cet effet. Retourner le CI et repliez légèrement les pattes (voir schéma 7) pour ne pas qu'il s'échappe en attendant l'opération "soudure". Répétez ces manipulations pour chaque composant. NB : A ) PREPARING THE GALVANOMETER les pattes des composants sont pliées à la bonne longueur, cela vous permet un contrôle ultime de l'identification. Si au moment de placer le composant sur le CI, les pattes n'entrent pas dans les trous, cela signifie que vous avez commis une erreur d'identification. A ) MONTAGE DU CONDENSATEUR C1. Hold the case of your C.A 406 KIT. The 2 galvanometer leads are soldered at their tips. Extend them, and the earth tag, upwards until they are standing perpendicular to the white plate. Il est polarisé. Placez la patte repérée ++ du condensateur dans le trou repéré + sur le CI (voir schéma 8). Warning : handling fordidden. The galvanometer is an entremely fragile electromechanical assembly. Never remove this white plate, or even its white cap, the guarantee will be null and voïd. B ) SELECTOR SWITCH ALIGNMENT B ) MONTAGE DES DIODES CR1 à CR7. Les diodes ont un sens. Leur symbole représente le sens de passage du courant. La cathode est repérée par une bague noire sur la diode. Placez chaque diode en faisant correspondre le repère composant et le repère CI (voir schéma 9). On the front of your C.A 406, turn the selector switch to the 100V AC range. Turn the case over. Arrow F should be in the position shown in fig. 21A. Next, position slot f of the selector switch as for fig. 21B. C ) MONTAGE DES RÉSISTANCES R4 à R36. Figure 21 A D ) MONTAGE DES POTENTIOMÈTRES R1, R2 et R3. Les résistances n'ont pas de sens : c'est facile ! Le plus difficile est de les identifier ... 3 pattes, donc 3 trous : on ne peut vraiment pas se tromper (voir schéma 10). E ) MONTAGE DES 3 COSSES PICOTS. Dans "Montage des pièces mécaniques" nous n'avions pas équipé le CI de ses cosses picots. Ils est préférable de les monter maintenant, juste avant l'opération "Soudure" pour ne pas les perdre. Le sachet "Pièces mécaniques" contient une cosse supplémentaire, au cas où ... ! Enfoncez-les légèrement en force avec la pince plate dans les trous prévus à cet effet (voir schéma 11). Ces cosses seront destinées à recevoir les 2 fils et la patte cuivrée de masse du galvanomètre. 44 9 Remarque : Une fois les composants montés sur le CI il ne vous est plus (ou très difficilement) possible de lire leur référence. Le schéma 12 représente en face composants de CI avant montage des composants. La bague tolérance est généralement plus large et séparée des autres. 10 43 STAGE V MOUNTING THE SELECTOR SWITCH Inventory of the Selector switch packet : La lecture s'effectue - R à 4 bagues : 1er - R à 5 bagues : 1er - R à 6 bagues : 1er - the selector switch, - 2 copper contacts, - 3 springs (the 3rd is provided as a spare). de gauche à droite selon le principe de marquage suivant : ch., 2ème ch., x Ω et %, ch., 2ème ch., 3ème ch., x Ω et %, ch., 2ème ch., 3ème ch., x Ω, % et PPM. A ) MOUNTING THE 2 SELECTOR SWITCH CONTACTS. The 2 contacts are silver coated for good contact quality. They run in contact with gold plated tracks on the PCB. The 2 contacts clip into position in the slots marked 3 and 4 on the selector switch (see fig. 14). Take a spring and slip it into the circular hole at 3. Take a contact and clip it into position in two stages (see fig. 15). R17 = 5,36 kΩ à 0,5 % R36 = 5,1 kΩ à 5% 1st stage : insert one of the legs of the contact until it clicks (next to central switch). 2nd stage : press down on the contact so that the other leg goes in, ensuring that the spring is still in position. A second "click" will indicate that the contact has locked into position. To check : depress the contact and release it, the contact should return to its initial position under the action of the spring. Carry out the same procedure for the other contact at 4. Schéma 7 : Replier légèrement les pattes des composants Schéma 8 : montage du condensateur C1 B ) MOUNTING THE SELECTOR SWITCH ON THE PCB. Take the selector switch and place it with its contacts against the gold plated tracks on the PCB (see fig. 12). Press down gently, the click fasteners should pass through the PCB to lock the switch into position. Once mounted, the selector switch should turn without sticking. Figure 19 : insulators fitted 12 41 STAGE IV MOUNTING TERMINAL INSULATORS Your PCB is nearly ready to be mounted in the case. The only thing left to do is to fit the black and red terminal insulators, then in Stage V, the switch. This delicate operation requires strength and dexterity. Hold your PCB (again, by the edges) and place it on a firm surface. With the PCB components side towards you, hold the red insulator in the axis of the left-hand metallic socket (i.e. next to the battery). The rounded part of the insulator must be towards you, otherwise the socket will not be able to penetrate into the insulator (see figure 17). Of course, you have to hold the insulator vertically in the right way up, i.e. with the connection part upwards. (If you are not sure, plug one of the 2 leads supplied with your instrument into the insulator, you'll see ! ). Engage the insulator in the socket. Perfectly line-up the 2 slots of the insulator so that the PCB can fit in (see figure 18). Press hard on the insulator until it is right in (without causing any damage). Repeat the procedure for the other socket with the black insulator (see figure 19). OPÉRATION III SOUDURE Rappel des "règles de l'art". La panne du fer à souder doit toujours être tenue propre et étamée. Proscrire absolument toute soudure pour "travaux divers", de même que l'apport de toute graisse à souder, l'une et l'autre renfermant souvent un décapant acide. Laissez chauffer le fer quelques secondes au plus sur la partie à souder. La soudure doit couler librement en s'étalant bien. Retirez le fer sans tarder, laissez refroidir l'étain sans remuer et sans souffler sur la soudure. Ne pas charger inutilement cette dernière. La qualité d'une soudure ne dépend pas de son volume, mais d'une bonne coulée à l'aspect lisse, brillant, non pâteux et sans gerçures. Les opérations de soudage terminées, vérifiez la propreté du circuit afin d'éviter tout risque de court-circuit (éclaboussures de soudure, soudures trop chargées ou trop larges,...). Attention : les composants et pièces mécaniques sont montés sur la face "composants" du CI. Souder les pattes se fait sur l'autre face du CI, côté "pistes dorées". Figure 17 : fitting socket insulator. A ) SOUDURE DES PIÈCES MÉCANIQUES. Soudez toutes les pièces mécaniques. Commencez par les 3 cosses picots afin d'éviter de les perdre. B ) SOUDURE DES COMPOSANTS. Soudez toutes les pattes des composants en suivant les règles de l'art. Une fois les pattes des composants soudées, couper à l'aide d'une pince coupante les surplus de pattes (voir schéma 13). Ils servent, tout simplement, aux interconnexions du CI (liaisons électriques d'une face à l'autre). 13 OPÉRATION IV MONTAGE DES ISOLANTS DE BORNES Votre CI est presque prêt à être fixé dans la boîtier. Il ne manque plus qu'à monter les isolants de bornes noir et rouge, puis à l'opération V, le commutateur. Cette opération délicate nécéssite force et dextérité. Saisissez votre CI (toujours par la tranche) et posez le bas de la tranche sur un plan rigide. Le coté composants du CI face à vous, présentez l'isolant rouge dans l'axe de la douille métallique de gauche (donc, du coté de la pile). La partie de l'isolant doit être vers vous, sinon la douille ne pourra pas pénétrer dans l'isolant (voir schéma 17). Bien sûr, vous aurez présenté l'isolant verticalement dans le bon sens, c'est à dire la partie connexion en haut (si vous avez un doute, branchez l'un des 2 cordons livrés avec votre appareil sur l'isolant, vous verrez !). Engagez l'isolant sur la douille. Alignez parfaitement les 2 fentes de l'isolant pour que le CI puisse s'y loger (voir schéma 18). Appuyer energiquement sur l'isolant jusqu'à ce qu'il vienne en butée sans rien endommager. Procédez de même pour l'autre douille avec l'isolant noir (voir schéma 19). STAGE III SOLDERING Reminder of the "rules of the art". The soldering iron tip must always be kept clean and brightly tinned. Under no circumstances must you use a general purpose solder, or a greasy flux, these often contain an acid cleaner. Do not leave the soldering iron in contact with a joint for more than a few seconds. If time and temperature are just right the solder will flow freely around the joint without oxidising. Do not use an excessive amount of solder. Remove the iron and allow the solder to cool without blowing on it. The quality of a soldered joint doesn't depend on the quantily of solder used, it depends on good flow, resulting in a bright clean joint without pits or peaks. When all the soldering is finished, make sure that the work is clean and that there are no solder splashes or solder bridges to cause short circuits. Caution : Schéma 17 : montage isolant de borne electrical components and mechanical parts are mounted on the "components" face of the PCB. Soldering is done on the other side of the board, the track side. A ) SOLDERING THE MECHANICAL PARTS. Solder all of the mechanical parts. Commencing with the 3 terminal posts, to avoid losing them. B ) SOLDERING THE COMPONENTS. Using the rules for good soldering, solder the legs of all the components. Once the legs of the components are soldered, cut the surplus off using stripping pliers (see figure 13). A ) MONTAGE DES 2 CONTACTS DU COMMUTATEUR. Reading is done from left to right according to the following marking principle : 4 band Resistor : 1st fig., 2nd fig., x Ω and %, 5 band Resistor : 1st fig., 2nd fig., 3rd fig., x Ω and %, 6 band Resistor : 1st fig., 2nd fig., 3rd fig., x Ω, % and ppm. Les 2 contacts sont recouverts d'argent pour la qualité de la commutation. Ils viendront frotter les pistes du CI, recouvertes d'or. Les 2 contacts se mettent en place dans les logements repérés 3 et 4 sur le commutateur (voir schéma 14). Prendre un ressort et le glisser dans le trou cylindrique repéré 3. Prendre un contact et le placer en 2 temps (voir schéma 15). 1er temps : enfilez la 1ère jambe du contact cuivre et glissez-la dans le trou prévu à cet effet (du côté du centre commutateur) jusqu'au "clic". 2ème temps : appuyez sur le contact pour faire passer la 2ème jambe, en veillant à ce que le ressort reste dans son logement. Le second "clic" indique la mise en place. Vérification : poussez sur le contact, il doit revenir à sa position initiale grâce à l'action du ressort. Procédez de même pour le montage du contact repéré 4. Une fois monté, le commutateur doit tourner sans coincer. The tolerance band is generally wider and separated from the others. 36 17 OPÉRATION VI MONTAGE DU CIRCUIT IMPRIMÉ Bien sûr, vous placerez le CI dans le boîtier en gardant le coté "composants" en haut comme le montre le schéma 20. Mais pour cela il faut d'abord préparer le galvanomètre. Le placement du CI dans le boîtier s'effectue "sans trop de difficultés", si vous respectez les points suivants. Schéma 20 : montage du CI PROCEDURE FOR MOUNTING COMPONENTS Now that you have identified each component you are going to mount them on the PCB and then you will solder them all. To do this, mount the components in the right order. With the flat pliers, stranghten the 2 legs of the component you have identified. With the tweezers, remove it carefully from the card and find where it goes on the PCB. Hold it up to the PCB and insert the legs into the corresponding holders. Turn over the PCB and bend the legs slightly (see figure 7) so that it cannot come out before the soldering stage. Repeat this procedure for each component. NB : the legs of the components are bent to the right length, this allows you a last check that you have the right component. If the component legs don't go into the holes, you probably have selected the wrong one : check again ! A ) MOUNTING CAPACITOR C1. A ) PRÉPARATION DU GALVANOMÈTRE Prenez le boîtier de votre C.A 406 KIT. Les 2 fils du galvanomètre sont étamés à leur extrémité. Redressez les ainsi que la patte de masse pour les mettre perpendiculaires à la platine blanche. Attention : manipulation à proscrire. C1 is a polarised capacitor. Ensure that the leg marked ++ is inserted into the hole marked + on the PCB (see figure 8). B ) MOUNTING DIODES CR 1 TO CR7. A diode has a forward and reverse sense. Its symbol indicates the direction of current flow. The cathode is marked by a black ring on the body of the diode. Insert each diode, ensuring that the marks on the diode and the PCB line up (see fig. 9). C ) MOUNTING RESISTORS R4 TO R36. Resistors can be mounted both ways : it's easy ! What is most difficult is to identify them ... B ) "ALIGNEMENT" DU COMMUTATEUR D ) MOUNTING POTENTIOMETERS R1, R2 AND R3. Sur la face avant du C.A 406, placez l'index du bouton du commutateur sur le calibre 100 V ~. Retournez le boîtier. La flèche F doit être positionnée suivant le schéma 21 A. Ensuite positionnez la fente f du commutateur comme figuré schéma 21 B. 3 legs, so 3 holes : you can't go wrong (see figure 10). E ) MOUNTING THE TERMINAL POSTS. In "Fitting the mechanical parts" we did not fit the terminal posts to the PCB. It is best to fit them now, just before the soldering stage, so that they are not bent. The packet of mechanical parts contains an extra terminal, just in case ... ! Using the flat nose pliers, press the terminal posts gently into the holes provided for this purpose (see fig. 11). The two leads and the copper earth lead of the galvanometer will be plugged into these terminals. The condenser is polarised and the diodes must be mounted the right way round : remember this when mounting. ■ To identify the resistors, you must use the colour code (well known by all electronic engineers). The table in figure 6 is a reminder of this code, and to help you a little, we give 2 examples of reading resistor values (R36 = 5.1 kΩ at 5 % and R 17 = 5.36 kΩ at 0.5 %) NB : If you really do have problems in working out the values, we can of course help you, but come on now, no cheating ! ■ There remain the 3 potentiometers R1 and R2 are identical. You can now open the packet of electrical components and proceed to mount them on the "components" side of the PCB. ■ Assurez-vous que l'axe du commutateur est bien dans l'alignement de la fente du commutateur, qu'aucun fil ne coince et alors, appuyez sur le bas du CI Cette fois le capuchon plastique du galvanomètre et l'axe du commutateur doivent sortir à travers le CI (les fils et la patte aussi). D ) SOUDURE DES 2 FILS ET DE LA PATTE DU GALVANOMÈTRE SUR LES 3 COSSES. Étamez les 3 cosses picots. Le fil sortant du trou (à côté du repère ) se soude sur la cosse repérée -G. Le 2ème fil, sortant du capuchon plastique, se soude sur la cosse repérée +G. Coupez l'extrémité de la patte de masse cuivrée, environ 5 mm en dessous de la pastille ronde. Puis soudez-en l'extrémité sur la cosse repérée (voir schéma 25). E ) MONTAGE DU BOUTON DE TARAGE DE L'OHMMÈTRE. A l'aide du bouton de tarage, réglez le potentiomètre R3 afin de placer la flèche pointe en bas comme figurée schéma 26 A. Retourner le boîtier, puis placer le bouton de tarage, ergot en bas, dans son logement sur la face avant (voir schéma 26 B). Vérifier la bonne correspondance de la flèche et du bouton avant d'encliqueter ce dernier. F ) MISE EN PLACE DE LA PILE. Bien respecter la polarité (le + de la pile au + du support). A ) MONTAGE DES CLIPS PORTE-FUSIBLES Prenez le fond du boîtier (le deuxième morceau du boîtier que l'on n'a pas encore utilisé). Regardez à l'intérieur, dans le logement en bas, vous verrez les 2 trous borgnes qui doivent recevoir les clips porte-fusibles. Inserrez-les dans ces trous. Au besoin, aidez-vous d'un tournevis pour enfoncer les clips (voir schéma 27). 32 21 Schéma 27 : montage des clips porte-fusibles Warning : handling forbidden. Once the PCB is removed, you will see the plate (white) supporting the galvanometer and the dial with its graduated scales. This plate is already positioned correctly. Do not remove it, the guarantee will be nullified. This will prevent the dial from becoming dirty and prevent the meter needle from possible damage due to mishandling. NOW WE CAN FIT OUT THE PCB Dans ces clips, vous pourrez, par la suite, mettre des fusibles de rechange si vous le souhaitez. The PCB has two sides : a "components" side (each part is marked by a rectangle with its reference) and a "soldering" side. So you place the parts on the components side. A ) MOUNTING THE TWO TERMINAL PINS. B ) MONTAGE DES PATINS ANTIDÉRAPANTS Au dos du boîtier, vous voyez un système de béquille, celui-ci vous permettra, par la suite, d'utiliser votre multimètre en position inclinée. A plat, votre appareil reposera sur les patins que vous devez rentrer "en force" dans leur logement. Vous pouvez utiliser la pointe du tournevis pour faire rentrer les patins dans ces trous borgnes. C ) MONTAGE DES VIS IMPERDABLES Ces 2 vis serviront à l'ouverture et à la fermeture du boîtier. Prenez le fond du boîtier et tournez-le coté patins et béquille vers vous. Visser à fond les vis imperdables dans les trous du haut prévus à cet effet. Effectivement c'est un petit peu raide à visser, mais vous allez vite comprendre pourquoi elles sont imperdables. Maintenant vous pouvez fermer votre boîtier en engageant le bas du fond dans le bas du boîtier puis refermez l'ensemble et visser les deux imperdables (voir schéma 28) Position them as shown in fig. 2. It will be necessary to apply light pressure in order to insert the legs into the PCB : the holes are round and the legs are square (it's a design feature ! ). B ) MOUNTING THE 4 FUSE CLIPS. Position them as shown in fig. 3. Bend the legs over against the underside of the PCB slightly. Insert the appropriate fuses to align the clips. Then, when you solder them in place, they will be perfectly aligned since the fuses will already be fitted (what a clever idea ! ). C ) MOUNTING THE BATTERY HOLDER AND CONTACTS. Align the battery holder + with the + printed on the PCB. Pass the contacts through the slots in the holder and through the PCB, twist the legs slightly to fix the holder into position, using the flat nose pliers (see fig. 4). Il ne vous reste plus qu'à coller l'étiquette au dos de l'appareil à l'emplacement prévu à cet effet. 22 Put all these parts to one side because we are going to open another packet (be careful not to mix them up ! ). 31 STAGE I ASSEMBLING THE MECHANICAL PARTS You will need the printed circuit board (PCB) and the packet of mechanical parts. CONTENTS LIST, MECHANICAL PARTS PACKET : - 2 tubular terminal pins (metallic, 2 legs), 2 terminal insulators (red and black plastic), 4 fuse clips (metallic), 1 battery holder (white plastic), 2 battery contacts (metallic), 4 miniature terminal posts (metallic), 4 cross-leaded screws, 2 fuses, 2 tool-release screws, 1 set zero Ω adjuster (grey plastic), 4 non-slip pads, 2 fuse holder clips (black plastic), 1 self adhesive label. REMOVE THE PCB FROM THE RUBBER CASE The PCB (glass fibre loaded epoxy resin, green in colour) is clipped into the case. Remove it, slide the tip of the flat screwdriver between the PCB and the case, near the lugs, and lever it (see figure 1). OPÉRATION VIII ÉTALONNAGE ET UTILISATION Arrivé à cette étape, votre C.A 406 est monté mais pas encore utilisable ! Vous allez l'étalonner pour obtenir la précision des mesures (réglages des potentiomètres R1 et R2). Deux cas sont possibles : A ) VOUS NE DISPOSEZ PAS DE MOYENS D'ÉTALLONNAGE : • Le C.A 406 à plat, amenez l'aiguille sur le 0 des échelles par action sur la vis de zéro mécanique (voir schéma 29). • Ouvrez le boîtier et réglez les potentiomètres R1 et R2 à mi-course à l'aide du petit tournevis (voir schéma 30). La précision de votre C.A 406 est alors de ± 5 %. Maintenant effectuer les deux opérations suivantes après avoir refermé votre appareil. • Contrôle de l'ohmmètre. Branchez les cordons. Le noir à la borne COM et le rouge à la borne +. Placez le commutateur sur le calibre x 1Ω. Court-circuitez les pointes de touche (voir mode d'emploi "mesures des résistances"). L'aiguille doit dévier vers le 0 de l'échelle verte (Ω). Avec le bouton de tarage Ω (situé à droite du commutateur), amenez l'aiguille à 0. Vous venez d'effectuer le tarage de l'ohmmètre. • Contrôle d'une pile 1,5 V ou 9 V neuve. Suivant le cas placez le comutateur sur 3 V ... ou 10 V ... Placez les pointes de touche sur les contacts de la pile (attention à la polarité). L'aiguille doit se placer vers la graduation 15 de l'échelle 0 - 30 (noire) soit 1,5 V ... ou vers la graduation 90 de l'échelle 0 - 100 (noire) soit 9 V, suivant le cas. NB : les piles du commerce ne sont pas des piles étalons. Leur valeur peut fluctuer autour des valeurs annoncées 1,5 V ou 9 V). • LIRE maintenant le MODE D'EMPLOI avant de passer aux autres types de mesure. B ) VOUS DISPOSEZ DE MOYENS D'ÉTALONNAGE : Il vous faut une source de tension étalon de 100mV ... et une source de courant étalon de 30 mA ~. • Réglage du potentiomètre R1 (voir schéma 30). Ouvrez le boîtier. Placez le commutateur sur le calibre 100 mV... Branchez les pointes de touche sur la source. Réglez le potentiomètre R1 pour amener l'aiguille sur 100, échelle 0-100 noire. Placez le commutateur sur le calibre 30 mA ~. Branchez correctement les pointes de touche sur la source. Réglez le potentiomètre R2 pour amener l'aiguille sur 30, échelle 0-30 rouge. 23 • La précision de votre C.A. 406 est alors de ± 2,5 %. • Refermez votre appareil. • LIRE maintenant le MODE D'EMPLOI avant de passer aux mesures. NB : en utilisation, vous vous assurerez du bon fonctionnement de chaque calibre. Un calibre peut ne pas fonctionner, à cause d'une mauvaise soudure d'un composant, alors que les autres calibres fonctionnent. IT'S EASY TO ASSEMBLE A CA 406 KIT ! A little reading : follow the operations described, one by one. A little reflection to identify the resistors by their colour codes. A little dexterity to assemble and solder the different parts together. YOUR CA 406 KIT IS BUILT ? Have a little patience. Electrical measurement has its rules. Before rushing off and using your MAN'X 102 on the first power point available, take some time off to read the enclosed operating instructions. By doing this you will get the most out of your test instrument. NECESSARY TOOLS For the correct assembly of your CA 406 KIT you will need the following : - 1 pair of flat nosed electrician's pliers and a pair of fine tweezers, and trimming pliers, - 2 insulated screwdrivers, one to be cross headed, - 1 soldering iron, approx. 40 W, - Solder (60 % tin, non-corrosive flux cored, 1 to 1.5 mm diam.) APPENDIX I C.A. 406 KIT, ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT DIAGRAMS Cleanliness : Always ensure that your hands are clean during all the stages of assembly. The PCB is delivered to you "chemically neutral".
