L’Oppidum Gallo-Romain (Plateau des Courens)
This “oppidum” (pre-roman fort) situated at the north of the village, on a 290 meters high hill and covering 7
ha, was built by the Memini, a celto-ligurian tribe. It is naturally protected by steep cliffs on its northern,
eastern and southern sides.
! Start : Car park, Place du Marché towards Cours
Jean-Jaurès.
" At the end of Cours Jean Jaurès, opposite the
church, follow the tarred road called Chemin de
Raboli, which winds along the vineyards, towards
Notre Dame d’Aubune chapel. At the chapel, you
will admire :
- the thick northern wall,
- the details of the colonnade at the top of the
church tower,
- the corner stones signed with the initials of the
stone layer,
- the roman wall on the west side.
# Walk around the chapel, then turn to the left
immediately after the gate, on the path which
climbs up the hill. Once you reach the plateau,
turn to the right towards La Pierre du Diable (the
Devil’s Stone), a huge rock overlooking NotreDame d’Aubune chapel.

$ Just before the breach, follow the small track on
your right towards Saint Hilaire’s chapel. After the
chapel, turn to the right, along the vineyards.
% At the end of the vineyards, the Castellas, an old
ruined castle overlooks the village. Turn down to
the left towards the road and, before reaching it,
follow the path on the right, which leads through
undergrowth and vineyards down to the village.
Once you reach the firebreak track, cross it (do
not cross the gate on your left), and follow walk
the narrow path in front of you.
The trail leads you behind the ruins of the second
feudal castle, walk around it to the left, and follow
the stairs going down back to the village.

Diese Siedlung, nôrdlich des Dorfes gelegen, wurde von einem keltisch-ligurischen Stamm, den MEMENI,
angelegt. Sie erstreckt sich auf 290 m Hôhe ûber eine Flâche von ca. 7 ha. Steilhânge nach Norden, Osten
und Sûden bieten ihr natûrlichen Schutz.
! Start: Parkplatz place du marchè
Richtung: Dorf, cours JEAN JAURES
" In Verlângerung des " cours " gegenûber der
Kirche den Weg "RABOLI" in Richtung N.D. d
AUBUNE nehmen. An der Kapelle angekommen
kônnen Sie bewundern :
- die Strebepfeiler der Nordseite,
- die mit den Initialen der Steinsetzer markierten
Ecksteine,
- die Details der Kolonnade oben auf dem
Glockenturm,
- an der Nordseite die rômische Mauer.
# Um die Kapelle herum gehen und unmittelbar
nach dem Schlagbaum links den Pfad
einschlagen, der den Hûgel hinauf fûhrt. Auf dem
Plateau angekommen halten Sie sich rechts bis
zum "PIERRE DU DIABLE" (grosser Felsen, der
ûber der Kapelle hângt).
$ Vor der Bresche den kleinen Pfad rechts in
Richtung der Kapelle ST.HILAIRE nehmen. Nach
der Kapelle das Weinfeld rechts umgehen.
% Am Ende des Weinfeldes sieht man zur Rechten
"LE CASTELLAS", die Ruine des alten, das Dorf
ûberragenden Schlosses. Zur Strasse absteigen
und kurz vor Erreichen rechts den kleinen Pfad ins
Unterholz einschlagen, der nach einem Weinfeld
ins Dorf hinunter fûhrt. An der Kreuzung mit dem
Brandschutz-weg den Abstieg gegenûber nehmen
( nicht links die Barriere passieren ). Der Pfad fûhrt
Sie hinunter zur Ruine des zweiten Schlosses, um
das man links herum geht, um dann ûber eine
Treppe ins Dorf zurûck zu kommen.

Cet oppidum, situé au Nord du village, fut aménagé par une peuplade celto-ligure, les Memini.
D’une superficie d’environ 7 ha, à 290 m d’altitude, il est naturellement défendu par des pentes
abruptes au Nord, à l’Est et au Sud.
! Départ : Place du Marché (parking), direction le village, cours Jean Jaurès.
" Dans le prolongement du cours, à l’opposé de l’église, prendre le chemin de Raboli, direction
la chapelle N.D. D’AUBUNE. Arrivé à la chapelle, vous pourrez admirer :
- les contreforts côté Nord,
- les détails de la colonnade au sommet du clocher,
- les pierres d’angles signées de l’initiale du poseur,
- à l’ouest, le mur romain.
# Contourner la chapelle, et prendre, à gauche immédiatement après la barrière, le sentier qui
monte dans la colline. Arrivé sur le plateau, suivre à droite jusqu’à la Pierre du Diable (gros
rocher surplombant Notre-Dame d'Aubune).
$ Juste avant la brèche, prendre le petit sentier à droite, direction la chapelle St Hilaire. Après la
chapelle, contourner la vigne par la droite.
% Au bout des vignes, voir sur votre droite, le Castellas, ancien château en ruines dominant le
village. Descendre vers la route, et juste avant celle-ci, prendre à droite le petit sentier en sousbois, qui après un passage dans les vignes, plonge vers le village. Au croisement du chemin
coupe-feu, prendre la descente en face (ne pas passer la barrière). Le sentier vous conduit
derrière les vestiges du second château féodal, que vous contournez à gauche par un escalier
qui vous ramène au village.
