SBO Universal HR Blow molding equipment for hot fillable or pasteurizable PET bottles SIDEL’S PROVEN TECHNOLOGY AND EXPERTISE ARE UNMATCHED IN THE FIELD OF HEAT RESISTANT PACKAGE PRODUCTION. SIDEL’S SBO UNIVERSAL HR EQUIPMENT IS A SUPERIOR CHOICE FOR THE PRODUCTION OF HEAT SET PET BOTTLES. The blow molding solution For hot filled or pasteurized Fruit juice, tea, and isotonic drinks the hr process The HR (heat resistant) process makes packages than can withstand either hot filling or pasteurization using a process known as heat setting. In this process, preform heating temperatures are higher, and the bottle remains in contact with the hot mold for a longer period. This combination guarantees: - The rearrangement of molecular chains at low stress levels, which limits the effects of any subsequent uncontrolled shrinkage. - An average increase in the degree of crystallinity of 32 percent. Reducing the heat sensitive amorphous phase and extending the crystalline phase increases the thermal strength of semi-crystalline material. specialiZed Le procédé HR garantit le maintien de la bouteille après le remplissage à chaud. pacKaGe desiGn For optimum performance, the heat setting process must be combined with a specially designed preform and bottle. The HR preform profile guarantees specific biorientation ratios that limit internal residual stresses while optimizing package weight. Bottle and preform specifications Neck ring diameter < 48.5 mm Preform length < 145 mm Bottle diameter The neck is especially heat sensitive, but there are ways to improve neck strength in HR heat setting. It can be crystallized, or an amorphous neck can be designed with added thickness. Currently, new designs for amorphous 28 and 38 mm necks, which are lighter, are in development for both inline and pre-manufactured applications. Powerful performance guarantees peak production Kinematics made for speed Sidel offers a range of HR blow molding machines with 6-30 cavities to manufacture 10,800 - 51,000 bottles/hour. A number of features including HR kinematics with quick mold opening/closing and reinforced transfer arms for greater stability; reduced dead space; and advanced preform and bottle design all guarantee higher outputs. Bottle quality assurance The carefully managed heating profile ensures superior material distribution and contributes to package lightweighting. That profile is generated by precision thermal conditioning using the proven radiation oven method combined with available heating power. Necks remain fully protected. Preforms are reheated on spindles with an open, ventilated design that keeps necks from overheating in the oven. The bell nozzle (Sidel patent) also helps protect necks during blow molding. The pre-blow phase is started independently and parameterized at the control console. This provides better control of material distribution at every station to guarantee production consistency and package quality. The cooling time (40 bar air injection to cool the internal wall of the bottle) is individually adjusted at each station to reduce volume variation. It can also be automatically modified in the early production phases to reduce the effect of the thermal transition phase of the molds. Parts costs trimmed Because HR kinematics reduce inertia and mechanical stress, parts do not wear out as quickly. That reduces the cost of parts needed to keep up with faster production rates. Air consumption under control The built-in nozzle actuator, electrovalve and flow limiter assembly considerably reduces dead space in the air circuits. This cuts down on blow molding air consumption. The blow molding air recovery option reduces air consumption by 15-25 percent. The advanced cooling cycle can save 6-10 percent in air consumption. A versatile machine The Universal HR machine can be reversed for standard production applications. A recipe change at the control console resets parameters of thermal conditioning to implement cooling, and the 40 bar air injection is deactivated. The three-passage rotary union increases the HR blow molding machine’s versatility for standard applications. It can also improve the mold housing unit’s thermal insulation. The Quick Change system facilitates format changeovers (neck, preform and body). Innovative technology for production rates up to 1,800 bottles/hour/mold Special HR Total flexibility kinematics A special HR cam makes faster mold opening/closing possible, so that the bottle disengages more easily to limit shrinkage (bottle deformation). Special kinematics also makes a broad range of output rates (750-1,800 bottles/ hour/mold) possible. Advanced HR kinematics (650 bottles/hour/mold) are also available for the most sensitive HR processes like 2-liter rectangular bottles. Man/machine inter- face performance The oven’s special configuration is based on a highly flexible heating profile and total control of production parameters. The oven’s cooling ramps are mechanically adjusted on an individual basis to protect necks. A regulated or total heating distribution system in the oven features a modular design. Both of these elements serve to increase the HR system’s flexibility. The sophisticated man/machine interface closely monitors the quality of production and processes in a centralized system that controls process parameterization (regulating the heating profile and controlling HR blow molding parameters), temperature control (temperature probes in the mold), yield tracking, and maintenance. 5 HR production delivered on a complete line output rates up to 51,000 Bph SBO 6/8 SBO 8/10 SBO 10/14 SBO 14/16 SBO 16/20 SBO 20/24 SBO 26/30 SBO 30/36 10,800* 14,400* 18,000* 25,200* 28,800* 36,000* 44,200* 51,000* *bph - Maximum production rate with F300 aluminum or steel molds with weight limits. hr Bottles made With aluminum molds Sidel has a technology that combines the benefits of F300 aluminum with HR process temperature requirements. This enables Sidel to reduce costs and delivery times compared to production using stainless steel molds. Lightweight F300 aluminum makes faster output rates and format changeover times possible. sBo universal hr With aluminum, mold temperatures can be raised and lowered more quickly resulting in faster machine restarts following format changeovers. And since aluminum is lighter than steel, output rates can be increased while limiting mechanical wear and tear on the machine for increased overall productivity. a vital component of the complete The SBO Universal HR can be part of a complete Sidel line for hot filling sensitive drinks. The Veloce H filler was designed to package products like tea and energy drinks. It is also ideally suited to filling juices with or without pulp. 6 _ SBO Universal HR Aluminum molds are easier to work with. They are lighter, so they are easier and faster to handle and install, and they improve operator safety. Aluminum molds are easier to clean thanks to an innovative surface treatment developed by Sidel. This keeps cavities in better condition in spite of repeated maintenance needed to eliminate oligomer deposits. Thanks to the equipment’s unique product recycling system, the filling temperature remains constant regardless of production conditions even during a machine shutdown. Product quality and taste are completely protected. hr The wide variety of HR mold configurations (inserts, shoulders, etc.), using either F300 aluminum or steel, make it possible to produce many different shapes in a single mold. For each bottle capacity, there are specific HR mold formats (Universal molds for standard formats, Jumbo molds for large containers). line The Veloce H filler guarantees excellent hygiene. The interior of the machine is clean and sanitized. The sloped frame is specially designed to easily eliminate product or bottle residues. A dummy bottle system performs closed circuit cleaning to guarantee superior hygiene in filling zones. An air filtration system can be added for increased hygiene. 1 2 3 1 - The Veloce H filler was designed to package hot products. 2 - Lightweight F300 aluminum makes faster production rates and format changeover times possible. 3 - For each bottle capacity, Sidel offers specific HR mold formats like Jumbo molds for large containers. 7 Sidel Blowing & Services, hereinafter “Sidel”, - Avenue de la Patrouille de France - F-76930 Octeville-sur-mer - RCS Le Havre B 424 623 759 - EN - As we constantly strive to improve production, Sidel reserves the right to modify its equipment.
