On3March1982hejoinedtheCanadianArmedForces,afterall“itwouldbeagoodstartfor
somecash.”AftercompletingbootcamphemovedontoMarineElectricalSchoolinEsquimalt
BC.SubsequentlyhewassenttheSeaEnvironmentalSchoolinHalifaxNS;wherehewaslater
postedtoHMCSGatineauin1983.
HeseenhiscallingandRe-musteredtoMSE-OP.DuringNovemberof1985hewaspostedto
SSF,Petawawa.Uponhisarrivalhewassenttotheillustrious2SvcBravoPl.Hisluckdidn’t
stopthere;hewasselectedtodriveanMLVWfromPetawawatoWainwrightAlbertaforRV87.
AfewyearslatertheNATOforcesstoodup,Cpl.Cobbwasabletocontributetothe1989
stabilizationofthisareaduringhisUNrotation.AswehaveestablishedCharleshashadsome
prettygoodluckbutnothingcomparestothelotterythathewasgoingtowin.OnMarch10
1990thedovesflewacrosstheskyasvowswerespokentoGabrielleinEastLondonSouth
Africa.
Duringthesummer1990anincidentarouseinOKACornwallOntario,andlasteduntil
September26,1990inwhichCharlesonceagaindedicatedhisefforts.Despiteallthegood
timesandanewwifethelovingcouplewaspostedtoCFELahrGermanyfromJune1990toJune
1993.DuringthistimetheCobbduobecameatrioDaughterGemmaSimonewasborn23May
1991.
PostedtoMTSCMeaford,fromJune1993to1996theCobbsdecideditwastimeforanother
andonAugust10th1994sonCharlesDuncanwasborn.Lifehasitsturnsandafterashortbreak
CharlesandthefamilywereofftoCFBBorden,wherehewasstationedatCFSALSchool
Support.ThatDecemberCpl.CobbcompletedhisCLCcourseattheRCRBattleSchoolinCFB
Petawawa.
SomeofyoumightnotknowthisbutCharleslovesthesnowandthecold,andtoprovethislove
hepartookinamonthlongtourtohelpaidthosewhohadlostpowerduetotheIceStormof
1997.
IguesswithafullhouseCharleswasgettingboredandbecameavolunteerfirefighterin
AngusOntariofrom1997until2012.In2000Cpl.CobbbecameMCpl.Cobbandkeptbusyasan
instructoratCFSAL.TheyearspassandCharlesbelievesittimetotrysomethingnewsoMCpl
CobbretiresJanuary2004andbecomesareservistworkingatPRETCBorden.
JusttospicethingsuphedecidestojointheOntarioProvincialPolicein2005for9monthsand
thenbacktothereservesworkingatPRETC.AfewpeopleknowthatthegoodSgt“likes”to
cooksowhatdoeshedo?HepurchasesafamilyrestaurantcalledDJ’sPizzaandCaféinAngus.
Sadlyitwassoldin2012.Thesadnessdidn’tlastlong;hewaspromotedtoSgtin2008.SgtCobb
startedworkingfortheAboriginalTrainingprogram(BlackBear)until2012whereherejoined
theregularforceandwaspostedbacktoGarrisonPetawawa.Hehasbeenemployedwith2
SvcBnonceagainastheICRoad&VehSafetySectionandSgtCobbwillretireOctober4th2016
andstartatwoyeardiplomaprogramwiththeUniversityofNewBrunswickintheOccupational
HealthandSafetysector.HeandhiswifeplantosettleintheMeafordareain2017.

fréquentel’écolepubliqueGlenOrchard.Àl’adolescence,Charlesfréquentel’écolesecondaire
ParrySoundoùilterminesesétudesetobtientsondiplôme.
Le3mars1982,ilsejointauxForcesarméescanadiennes,puisqu’aprèstout,«c’estunbon
départpourfairedel’argent.»Aprèsavoirterminélapérioded’entraînement,ilfréquentela
MarineElectricalSchoolàEsquimalt(C.-B.).Parlasuite,onl’envoieàlaSeaEnvironmental
SchoolàHalifax(N.-É.),oùilestensuiteaffectéauNCSMGatineauen1983.
IldécouvresavocationetdevientchaufMR.Ennovembre1985,ilestaffectéàlaFOS,à
Petawawa.Àsonarrivée,ilestenvoyéàl’illustrepelotonBravodu2BonSvc.Sachancene
s’arrêtepaslà;ilestchoisipourconduireunVLMRdePetawawaàWainwright(Alberta)dansle
cadredel’ExRV87.Quelquesannéesplustard,lesforcesdel’OTANsontmisessurpiedetle
CplCobbestenmesuredecontribueràlastabilisationde1989danslarégionpendantsa
rotationdel’ONU.Commenousl’avonsétabli,Charlesaeudelachance,maisrien
comparativementàlaloteriequ’ilallaitgagner.Le10mars1990,lescolombesvolentdansle
cielalorsquelesvœuxsontéchangésavecGabrielleàEastLondon,enAfriqueduSud.
Pendantl’été1990,unincidentalieuàOka(Cornwall,enOntario)etdurejusqu’au26
septembre1990,etCharlesydédieunefoisdeplussesefforts.Malgrétouslesbonsmoments
etunenouvellefemme,lecoupleestaffectéauxFCEàLahr(Allemagne),dejuin1990àjuin
1993.Pendantcettepériode,leduoCobbdevientuntrioavecleurfilleGemmaSimonequinait
le23mai1991.
AffectéauCSEMMeaford,dejuin1993à1996,lesCobbdécidentqu’ilesttempsd’enavoirun
autreetle10août1994,leurfilsCharlesDuncannait.Laviechange,etaprèsunepetitepause,
CharlesetlafamillequittentpourlaBFCBorden,oùilestpostéausoutiendel’EALFC.En
décembredecettemêmeannée,leCplCobbterminesoncoursdeCACàl’Écoledecombatdu
RCRàlaBFCPetawawa.
Certainsd’entrevousnelesaventpeut-êtrepas,maisCharlesadorelaneigeetlefroid,etla
preuve:ilaparticipéàuneopérationd’unmoispouraiderlespersonnesquiavaientperdu
l’électricitéenraisondelatempêtedeverglasde1997.
Jepensequ’avecunemaisonpleine,Charless’ennuyaitetildevientpompiervolontaireàAngus
(Ontario)de1997à2012.En2000,leCplCobbdevientleCplcCobbetilsegardeoccupé
commeinstructeuràl’EALFC.LesannéespassentetCharlescroitqu’ilesttempsd’essayer
quelquechosedenouveau.Ilprenddoncsaretraiteenjanvier2004,devientréserviste,et
travailleauCFICRBorden.
Pourrendreleschosesunpeuplusintéressantes,ildécidedesejoindreàlaPoliceprovinciale
del’Ontarioen2005pendant9moispuisilretournetravaillerauCFCRcommeréserviste.
Quelquespersonnessaventquelebonsergent«aime»cuisiner.Alorsqu’est-cequ’ilfait?Il
achèteunrestaurantfamilialappeléDJ’sPizzaandCaféàAngus.Malheureusement,le
restaurantestvenduen2012,maislatristessen’apasdurélongtemps.En2008,leSgtCobb
commenceàtravaillerpourleProgrammedeformationdesAutochtones(BlackBear)jusqu’en
2012oùilsejointàlaForcerégulièreetestaffectéàlagarnisonPetawawa.Unefoisdeplus,il
travailleau2BonSvccommeResp.delasectiondeSécuritéroutièreetSécuritéauvolant.Le
SgtCobbprendrasaretraitele4octobre2016etcommenceraunprogrammededeuxans
menantàundiplômeàl’UniversitéduNouveau-Brunswickdanslesecteurdelasantéetdela
sécuritédutravail.Safemmeetluiplanifientd’installerdanslarégiondeMeaforden2017.
