Le lycée Gaston Barré compte cette année 343 élèves dont 65 apprentis.
Il accueille également des formations pour les adultes ainsi que des dispositifs particuliers pour des publiques
spécifiques :
SARAH pour les élèves avec handicaps et des adolescents en séjour médical
PAQUI pour les élèves en recherche d’une solution alternative d’orientation.
Il dispose d’un internat d’une centaine de places.

This year, the Gaston Barré Vocational High School has a total of 343 students, including 65 apprentices.
It also provides vocational training courses for adults as well as two other specific courses targeted to specific
audience:
- SARAH: designed for students with handicaps and teenagers undergoing medical care.
- PAQUI: designed for students looking for alternative careers paths.
The school also provides boarding accommodation for 100 students.
The training courses offered revolve around automotive and logistics careers:

Another training course provided is a vocational oriented class for secondary school students (grade 11) willing to
discover the courses provided in our school. This course enables them to finish their secondary school cycle and take
their “Brevet des Collèges” (equivalent of a GCSE – General Certificate of Secondary School Education)
Nos élèves sont majoritairement des garçons (92 % cette année), issus des catégories
socioprofessionnelles défavorisées. De plus ils cumulent souvent échec scolaire ancien et troubles des
apprentissages (toute la gamme des dyslexies).
De ce fait, les élèves qui ont du mal à suivre et qui sont tentés par le décrochage scolaires sont nombreux
ce qui nous impose de rester toujours vigilants.
Une cellule de veille spéciale qui réunit la direction, les conseillères principales d’éducation (CPE), la
conseillère d’orientation psychologue COP, l’infirmière, l’assistante sociale et la conseillère tutrice en
insertion (CTI) examine ces cas particuliers afin de lutter contre les sorties précoces et sans qualification.
Our students are mainly boys (92 % this year).They frequently come from disadvantaged backgrounds.
They have often experienced former academic failure and have learning disorders (the full range of Specific
Learning Difficulties as dyslexia, dysorthographia…)
Therefore, many of them are tempted to drop out of school, which means extra care is needed at all times.
A special work group gathers weekly to examine individual cases and prevent dropping out. This group is
composed of the administrative staff, year heads, the career advisor, the school nurse, the social worker
and the “Drop In” counselor.
PAQI
PAQI signifie "Pôle d'Accompagnement à la Qualification la et à l'Insertion".
C'est une classe d'intégration financée par des fonds sociaux tant français qu'européens.
Il vise à réintégrer des élèves décrocheurs dans la formation, pour obtenir une qualification.
Au Lycée Professionnel Gaston Barré le groupe principal est constitué de 25 élèves âgés de 16 à 19 ans.
Ils tous ont des difficultés d'apprentissage et la plupart d'entre eux ont renoncé pendant leurs années de
collège.
Le PAQI intervient aussi sur d'autres publics : des jeunes mères adolescentes, des adolescents obèses
qui sont en séjour médical sur Niort. Il intervient également auprès des étudiants étrangers (Pakistan,
Syrie, Tchétchénie, Roumanie) aussi bien pour les démarches administratives que pour l'étude du français.
Une semaine scolaire typique, les étudiants sont à l'école lundi et mardi. Ils ont des Maths, de l'anglais, du
français, de l'Histoire et Géographie ou des formations professionnelles plus orientées pour apprendre à
préparer un CV ou une lettre de candidature. Du mercredi au vendredi, ils sont en stage en entreprise pour
confirmer leur choix d’orientation et acquérir les bases d’un comportement de travail approprié.
PAQI
PAQI stands for « Pôle d’Accompagnement à la Qualification et à l’Insertion ». It is an integration class
financed by both French and European Social Funds.
It aims at reintegrating college drop-outs into training, in order to get a qualification.
The Gaston Barré Vocational High School main group consists in 25 students aged between 16 and 19.
They all have learning difficulties and most of them gave up scholarship during their years of secondary
school.
We are also in charge of 3 other categories of students: teen mothers, obese teenagers who are on a
weight loss cure in Niort. We also teach foreign students (from Pakistan, Syria, Chechnya, Romania)
seeking political asylum and learning French.
On a typical school week, students are at school on Monday and Tuesday. They have Math, English,
French, History and Geography classes or more orientated vocational courses to learn writing a CV or a
cover letter. From Wednesday to Friday, they go on a work placement to insure they choose the right
career and acquire appropriate work behaviour.
