Welcome to
Cégep Heritage College
Cégep Heritage College is the only public,
tuition-free, Anglophone CEGEP in Western
Quebec. Our state-of-the-art facilities
are located in Gatineau, just ten minutes
from downtown Ottawa, in the heart of the
National Capital Region, bordering scenic
Gatineau Park.
We offer 2-year Pre-University programs that
prepare you for further university studies, and
3-year Career programs for immediate entry into
the labour force or further university studies. Both
types of programs lead to a Diploma of College
Studies (DEC). Also, our innovative Centre for
Continuing Education offers programs leading
to Attestations of College Studies (AEC), as
well as professional, personal and corporate
training, courses and workshops, held on campus
(Gatineau and Campbell’s Bay) or at your
business location, days, evenings and weekends.
Program Overview
The Social Science Pre-University program offers
students a diverse, broad-based background
through the study of the following disciplines:
• Anthropology examines human physical and
cultural origins, as well as patterns of culture
and dynamics of change;
• Biology, through the study of basic anatomy and
physiology, integrates the workings of the mind
and the body, attempting to explain the variation
between the normal and the abnormal states;
• Economics studies the acquisition and
distribution of scarce goods and resources,
the underlying principles and values
involved, and their consequences for society
and the physical environment;
• Geography is the study of people and their
relationship to the physical and cultural
environments. It focuses on environmental
issues, as well as on resource availability
and distribution;
• History is the study of people in the past, the
challenges they faced and the solutions they
found, using as evidence everything that
they left behind;
• Mathematics studies the concepts of
functions, their limits, derivatives and
integrals, and shows how to solve different
types of equations;
• Political Science centres on conflict and
power in human society, the mechanisms
through which conflicts are handled and
decisions are made on the societal level;
• Psychology is the study of behaviour and
mental processes. It examines the biological
and social factors that contribute to
behaviour and personal experience;
• Sociology describes and analyzes social
relationships— roles, groups, organizations,
classes, institutions and societies—
emphasizing patterns, conflict and change.
Education Path
Graduates of the Social Science program, with
their developed research, writing and analytical
skills, are well prepared to pursue university studies
in the following fields: Journalism, Social Work,
Environmental Studies, Law, Teaching and Urban
Planning, among other Social Science options.

Cégep Heritage College
Le Cégep Heritage College est le seul cégep
public anglophone situé dans l’ouest du Québec.
Ses installations à la fine pointe se trouvent à
Gatineau, à seulement dix minutes du centreville d’Ottawa, au cœur de la région de la
capitale nationale, près du pittoresque parc de
la Gatineau.
Le Collège offre des programmes préuniversitaires
de deux ans qui vous préparent aux études
universitaires, ainsi qu’un programme d’études
professionnelles de trois ans qui vous permet
d’entrer directement sur le marché du travail ou
de poursuivre des études universitaires. Les
deux programmes mènent à un diplôme d’études
collégiales (DEC). De plus, notre centre novateur
de formation continue offre des programmes
permettant d’obtenir une attestation d’études
collégiales (AEC), ainsi que des cours et des
ateliers de formation personnelle, professionnelle,
et destinée aux entreprises, le jour, le soir et la
fin de semaine, soit sur le campus (Gatineau et
Campbell’s Bay), soit en entreprise.
Présentation du programme
Le programme préuniversitaire de Sciences
humaines permet aux étudiants d’acquérir des
connaissances diversifiées et élargies grâce à
l’étude des disciplines suivantes:
• L’anthropologie, qui porte sur les origines
physiques et culturelles des êtres humains
ainsi que sur les modèles de culture et les
dynamiques du changement;
• La biologie, par l’étude de l’anatomie et
de la physiologie de base, qui intègre le
fonctionnement du corps et de l’esprit et
tente d’expliquer la variation entre les états
normaux et anormaux;
• L’économie est l’étude de l’acquisition et de
la distribution des biens et des ressources
limités, des valeurs et des principes sousjacents et de leurs conséquences pour la
société et l’environnement physique;
• La géographie est l’étude des personnes et
de leur relation à l’environnement physique
et culturel. Elle porte sur les questions
environnementales ainsi que sur l’accès aux
ressources et à leur distribution;
• L’histoire est l’étude des peuples dans le
passé, des difficultés qu’ils ont connues et
des solutions qu’ils ont trouvées. L’histoire
se base sur tout ce que ces peuples ont
laissé derrière eux;
• Les mathématiques portent sur les concepts
des fonctions, des limites, des dérivées et
des intégrales et sur la façon de résoudre
différents types d’équations;
• Les sciences politiques sont centrées sur
les conflits et le pouvoir dans la société
humaine, les mécanismes de gestion des
conflits et les décisions prises au niveau
sociétal;
• La psychologie est l’étude du comportement
et des processus mentaux. Elle porte
sur les facteurs biologiques et sociaux
qui contribuent aux comportements et à
l’expérience personnelle;
• La sociologie décrit et analyse les relations
sociales : rôles, groupes, organisations,
classes, institutions et sociétés. Elle
souligne les modèles, les conflits et les
changements.
