Come admire student research posters in Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Classical Studies, Education, Environmental Studies & Geography, History, Physics, Political Studies, Psychology and Sociology. Scavenger Hunt Across campus Student and staff activity designed to allow the Bishop’s community to learn more about academic research being conducted by BU faculty. Registered participants will be given clues to discover 10 research-related facts. Monday, March 23 Opening Reception – 10th Anniversary Celebration 12:30 – 1:15 p.m. – Library Lobby Celebrate Research Week’s 10th anniversary with some cake and coffee in the Library. Join us for the launch of Bishop’s University’s new Institutional Repository as well as that of the ACFAS Research Photo Exhibit, La preuve par l’image, hosted by Bishop’s University from March 23rd to April 3rd 2015. The exhibit includes the finalists of the 2010 and 2014 ACFAS research photography contest. Tuesday, March 24 Teaching and Learning Centre Initiative: Flash Talks 12:00 – 1:30 p.m. – The Gait Come listen to professors discuss how their teaching can become the object of academic scholarship on pedagogical approaches in higher education. Institutional Repository Workshop 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. – Library Orientation Room (LIB103/104) Looking to share your work and increase its dissemination? The Institutional Repository Committee is pleased to announce that the Bishop’s Institutional Repository is now open for business. Attendees are invited to join Lisa Taylor and Daniel Bromby to learn more about the project and the virtues of contributing to a repository, and also see the repository in action through a detailed demonstration. As this activity is taking place in the Library’s E-classroom, attendees will even be able to register and explore the system themselves. Bishop’s Idol 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. – The Gait Come hear student researchers present their research in 300 seconds! Judges: Principal Michael Goldbloom, Vice-Principal Academic Miles Turnbull, Dean of Arts and Science Michele Murray. Hosts: Chelsea McLellan, SRC VP Academic, and Marie-Josée Berger, Dean of Education. Wednesday, March 25 Student Poster Presentations 12:00 – 1:30 p.m. – Centennial Lobby Students participating in the Poster Competition will be on site to present and discuss their posters with members of the jury and the public. Members of the Bishop’s and Lennoxville community are invited to be present to vote for the best poster. Café Scientifique – Why Is It So Difficult to Kick an Addiction? 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. – Brûlerie de café FARO, Lennoxville Professors Adrianna Mendrek and Annie Duchesne will engage in a discussion with members of the community on the topic of addiction and the neurobiological and psychosocial factors that can influence quitting. Moderator: Vice-Principal Academic Miles Turnbull. Observatory Tours 8:00 – 10:00 p.m. – Nicolls 323 Dr. Lorne Nelson and his team welcome visitors to the Bishop’s University Observatory. Tours begin at 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Twenty visitors per tour will be accepted on a firstcome, first-served basis. In case of clouds, a presentation will be given at the new videoconferencing centre in the Observatory. Thursday, March 26 Transformative Praxis 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. – Nicolls 312 If you are curious to learn how research can be moved from theoretical knowledge into action in the field, the Transformative Praxis team can provide some enlightening examples. Faculty-student teams to participate in this panel discussion are: Christopher D. Stonebanks and David Emory Bruce Gilbert and Sarah Fournier Fintan Sheerin (Trinity College, Dublin) and Susanna Weedle/Eloise Sheerin Melanie Bennett-Stonebanks and Kassandra Norie Closing Reception 12:00 – 1:30 p.m. – Centennial Lobby For the first time, the Bishop’s University Emerging Scholar Award will be given to a new and promising scholar. Following this, three prizes as well as the Public Vote prize will be given to the winners of the Poster Competition, and a draw to determine the student and staff winners of the Scavenger Hunt will take place. Finally, the Multi-Scale Climate and Environmental Change Research Cluster will present its annual MUSCLE student award during Research Week’s closing reception. Come applaud all the winners, take one last look at the posters and enjoy a selection of hors d’oeuvres to end this special edition of Research Week in style! Friday, March 27 Graduate Scholarship Application Workshop 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. – Hamilton 301 Thinking of applying for a graduate scholarship? It’s not too soon to get ready! Professors Fuschia Sirois and Lorne Nelson along with Research Officer Julie Frédette will offer tips on completing a graduate scholarship application as well as useful information concerning deadlines and the various funding opportunities that are available. Friday, March 27 – Saturday, March 28 Quebec Studies Colloquium Cleghorn, McGreer Hosted by the Eastern Townships Resource Centre (ETRC) and the Institute of Quebec Studies (State University of New York at Plattsburgh), this event will consist of faculty and student presentations from Bishop’s and abroad on current issues within the field of Quebec Studies.
