The alliance covers only the professional ornamental market segment in the French market, under the Bertrand brand name traded by Plan Ornamental. Plan Ornamental is the new legal entity of the well-known Bertrand Frères Company located in Angers. The successful alliances already signed between Bertrand and Boyard in 2006 and Bertrand and Kientzler in 2007 strengthen the strategic direction taken by the group Plan, which is to combine complementary knowledge and competencies between companies acting in the French market. The Plan/Sakata alliance will enable Plan Ornamental to re-enforce its genetic position in the bedding/pot plant segments on the French market. While the Sakata assortment will continue to be available in the French market through other distribution channels, the Plan/Sakata alliance strengthens the already long-standing relationship between Sakata and Plan Ornamental (Bertrand), which is the leading distributor of Sakata genetics in France. Genetic Strength Sakata is a well-known global leader in ornamental breeding, with many highly successful innovations. Sakata gave the world F1 pansies (Majestic Giants), and still leads with products like Dynamite and Power F1 Pansy; Sakata is also global leader in F1 Primula, with Danova, F1 Begonia semperflorens, with Ambassador and Emperor, and F1 Gerbera, with Festival. Innovation to meet customer’s needs Under the umbrella brand name Bertrand, Plan Ornamental is now directly interacting with the product development team in Sakata, following a rigorous protocol that will give the French growers an opportunity to test new products well before their introduction on the French market. Therefore, a trans-company team from breeder to growers via the sales team of Plan Ornamental will actively participate to the decision making process that leads to introductions for the French market. Sakata has always been the most important supplier for Plan Ornamental in biennial and annual seeds. With this alliance, the seed product portfolio gets a stronger position on the French market. Plan: creator of innovative ornamental solutions Plan SAS has a clear target to offer its customers a complete range of innovative ornamental solutions. For instance, SunPatiens® created by Sakata, is one of the most outstanding performing Impatiens for landscaping. Extremely vigorous and much more resistant to sun exposure than any others, SunPatiens® provides a new plant habit within the Impatiens segment that is already perceived as a true innovation by the users. When to meet next time? The Plan/Sakata alliance will be announced during Le Salon du Végétal, which will take place in Angers from February 20th through the 22nd.
