of
manufactured goods in
the past nine months.
(04.05.2016 - FBC)
The House of Peoples
Representative (HPR), in
its 27th regular session,
reviewed
nine-month
performance report of
the ministry yesterday.
Accordingly, the House
evaluated the ministry’s
nine-month
manufactured
goods
export performance as
poor.
4
Minister
of
trade,
Ahmed Abtaw, said the
failure is due to lack of
technological capacity
which shoulders the
falling price of textile
and leather products at
the global market.
Chairman
of
HPR’s
Industry
Affairs
Standing
Committee,
Berhanu Mekuye, said
the
performance
witnessed a 5.5 percent
decline compared to
same
period
the
previous year, showing
that the sector is at a
critical stage.
The House urged the
ministry to improve its
performance
in
the
remaining two months
of the budget year and
compensate the decline
in export earnings next
year.
Despite a target to
generate 103 billion US
dollars from export in
the first half of this
budget
year,
the
ministry managed to
mark only 53.5 billion
US dollars.
The
ministry
also
planned to create jobs
for 185,000 citizens
this budget year and so

20,000 people.

Ethiopian official calls for more S. Korean investment
Ethiopia
has
an
attractive package of
incentives for foreign
investors including a
10-year tax holiday
under its ambitious
growth plan, a senior
Ethiopian official said
Tuesday,
stressing
that the African state
aims to become the
"next
manufacturing
hub."
04.05.2016 – FBC)
During an interview
with
Yonhap
News
Agency, Arkebe Oqubay,
special advisor to Prime
Minister
Hailemariam
Desalegn, urged South
Korea to invest more in
the country, noting that
the skilled, yet cheap
workforce, low energy
costs and free land for
factories make Ethiopia
an
ideal
investment
destination. "Ethiopia is
providing
(investors)
with the most attractive
package,
because
Ethiopia is now aiming
to
be
the
next
manufacturing hub," he
said. "For that, the
government has a very
clear policy and very
clear vision.
Arkebe arrived in South
Korea on Monday for a
four-day visit that is
focused
wholly
on
bolstering business ties
13
with South Korea, a
country which he said
Ethiopia now views as a
crucial
development
model.
Explaining
Ethiopia's
10-year growth plan,
Arkebe highlighted his
country's eagerness to
attract
manufacturers
from around the world,
particularly
those
specializing in textile,
footwear
and
other
labor-intensive
industries
where
Ethiopia can cash in o n
its
rich
human
resources. Ethiopia has
a population of nearly
100 million.
Under
the
10-year
growth
initiative,
Ethiopia seeks to see its
gross domestic product
grow by 11 percent
each year and the
manufacturing
sector
by 25 percent annually
over the next decade.
"Now, the country has
put the manufacturing
as
an
immediate
priority,
which
is
export-oriented
and
similar to South Korea
in the 1960s," he said,
describing the growth
plan as a "challenging
yet possible" initiative.
The African nation has
been
seeking
to
establish a favorable
business environment
for foreigners. It has
provided
land
for
foreign manufacturers
for free, allowed them
to import machinery on
a tax-free basis and
eased visa rules for
them. Above all, the
labor cost is cheap -below 100 US dollars
per month per worker,
Arkebe explained.
Casting the ties between
South
Korea
and
Ethiopia
as
"long
historical
relations
bound by blood and
sacrifice," he stressed
that now is the right
time for both countries
to
elevate
the
relationship "to a higher
level." Ethiopia is one of
the
countries
that
fought under the U.N.
banner in support of
South Korea during the
1950-53 Korean War.
"The best way to build
this (better
bilateral
relationship)
is
to
promote
investment,"
he said. "South Korean
companies
want
to
invest
overseas
and
they
have
the
technology
and
the
manufacturing
capability.
Ethiopia
wants this investment."

millions
de mètres
cubes de pétrole en
2015.
(03.05.2016 – La
Nation)
Le volume est un record
établi par HDTL dans le
cadre du contrat de
performances,
passé
entre la maison mère et
chaque
filiale.
Le
constat faisait la fierté
du manager Houssein
Ahmed Houssein à la
tête de la filiale locale.
Encore plus quand il a
reçu le trophée du
meilleur
terminal
pétrolier
de
l ’année
2015 des mains du
directeur
des
opérations du groupe
Horizon Terminals Ltd,
Graig Garbutt. Et ce
sous
les
applaudissements
nourris de l’assistance

Horizon
Djibouti
Terminals Ltd a célébré
jeudi 28 avril dernier
son 10ème anniversaire
au
Kempinski.
L’événement
y
a
regroupé les employés
et managers d’HDTL,
dont
le
directeur
général,
Houssein
Ahmed Houssein, le
directeur
des
opérations du groupe
Horizon Terminal, Graig
Garbutt, l’adjoint de
celui-ci, Paul Wright,
des représentants des
clients de la place, de
l’ambassade d’Ethiopie,
de la division logistique
et énergie de l’Armée
américaine.
Les uns et les autres se
sont retrouvés autour
des tables de banquet
dans
une
ambiance
festive. Tous ont vibré
ensemble au rythme des
pas de danses , exécutés
par
des
groupes
d’artistes djiboutiens et
éthiopiens.
Après les chorégraphies
folkloriques, place aux
discours
qui
ont
ponctué la cérémonie
commémorative.
Diverses leçons sont à
tirer des interventions
que le directeur des
opérations de la maison
mère et le directeur
général
d’HDTL
ont
successivement
faites
au micro de la tribune.
Il faut remonter à 2006
pour voir le terminal
pétrolier de Doraleh
devenir
opérationnel .
Avec le démarrage de
ses
activités
qui
couvrent la réception
des hydrocarbures, le
chargement
des
produits pétroliers à
bord des camions et la
livraison aux bateaux.
Environ 30 millions de
mètres cubes de pétrole
ont depuis transité au
dépôt
d’Horizon
Djibouti. La société a
enregistré le transit de
4,5 millions de mètres
cubes de pétrole en
2015. Le volume reflète
assez
les
capacités
opérationnelles
du
terminal pétrolier de
Doraleh. Lequel
s’es t
vu décerner en février
2016 le prix de «
terminal
de
l’année
2015 » par groupe
Horizon Terminals. La
décision
est
venue
récompenser le record
établi par HDTL dans le
cadre du contrat de
performances,
passé
entre la maison mère et
chaque filiale.

…2015,
une
année
faste.
Cette
consécration s’enracine
dans le programme de
formation
continue
qu’HDTL a démarré dès
2013 au profit de ses
salariés. Suite logique :
la compagnie a effectué
une
sélection
de
plusieurs
évaluateurs
en son sein au mois
d’octobre
2015.
Les
principaux
concernés
au nombre de 6 ont
ensuite
entamé
une
formation continue de
18
mois,
censée
s’achever
dans
le
courant de mars 2017.
Ils
sont
appelés
à
partager
les
compétences acquises
au reste du personnel
dans la gestion et
maîtrise des risques sur
les lieux du travail.
Autre info de taille :
Horizon
Djibouti
a
adopté en mars 2015 le
17
code international de
conduite des affaires.
Le choix visait une
appropriation collective
des pratiques éthiques
les plus élevées dans
l’accomplissement des
différentes activités de
la
compagnie.
Il
s’agissait aussi pour
son management de
créer par ce biais un
environnement éthique
robuste. Une double
ambition qui semble
suivie d’effets. Si l’on se
réfère au prix que le
groupe ENOC a attribué
en février 2016 au
terminal pétrolier de
Doraleh. Et ce, faut-il
ajouter,
pour
sa
contribution
et
son
soutien au processus de
mise en œuvre du code
de
conduite
des
affaires.
En
provenance
de
Dubaï, le directeur des
opérations du groupe
Horizon Terminals a
remis ce prix directeur
général de la filiale
djiboutienne, Houssein
Ahmed Houssein, lors
de la matinée de jeudi
dernier,
passée
au
Kempinski.
Sur
place,
Graig
Garbutt a officiellement
remis au management
du terminal pétrolier de
Doraleh deux autres
prix qui lui ont été
décernés
lors
d’une
cérémonie
qui
s’es t
déroulée en décembre
2015 à Dubaï. La raison
tient au score élevé
obtenu
par
Horizon
Djibouti Terminals au
terme des audits sur sa
gestion des ressources
et de l’énergie.
C’est dire combien 2015
a été une année faste
pour HDTL. Puisque ce
fleuron de l’économie
nationale a obtenu en
juillet
2015
3
certifications ISO pour
son management de
qualité, sa gestion de
l’environnement, et son
système de santé et
sécurité au travail.
Cette
cul ture
de
performances
laisse
entrevoir le sens de
l’engagement
des
salariés
de
la
compagnie. Les plus
anciens au nombre de
43 se sont vus remettre
des certificats et des
chèques
lors de la
cérémonie
de
célébration du 10ème
anniversaire de leur
employeur. Le geste
était
en
soi
une
reconnaissance
du
travail que les heureux
récipiendaires
ont
accompli au cours de la
décennie écoulée.
