BRITISH DRIVERS AT THE TOP KF AND KF-JUNIOR IN EUROPE
Without a relationship of cause and effect, two British drivers have made themselves prominent in the UK at the PF International circuit this last weekend in August. The final Competition of the CIK-FIA European Championships crowned Callum Ilott in KF and Enaam Ahmed
in KF-Junior after a full season which began in May. The two new Champions both won their
respective Finals in style to claim their European titles.
Organized over four Competitions this year, the CIK-FIA European Championships for KF and KF-Junior
were completed on English soil, in good weather, except for the rainy period during Qualifying late Friday
afternoon. Ilott and Ahmed both emerged without challengers, and each dominated their opponents
brilliantly in the finals. Another similarity, they were both racing in their second season in the category
in which they were crowned. But the outcome was far from settled before the outbreak of hostilities
and they showed great maturity in addition to their speed, against sharp opponents at all stages of the
Competition.
The PF International circuit and the organizer Trent Valley Kart Club provided facilities suited to the
conclusion of the CIK-FIA European Championships. The British track is not the easiest to learn and
pitfalls abound throughout its 1,382 m. The Competition has also had its share of surprises, especially
during the first few laps of each race with drivers desperate to win. But sportsmanship accompanied an
outcome welcomed by everyone, under the Lincolnshire sun.
Ilott dominates KF
Already very fast, but not yet mature enough last year to win, Callum Ilott (Zanardi-Parilla-Dunlop) has
progressed well from his 15th place finish in 2013 at this level. At 16, Callum is one of the most promising young talents at the moment. At the Zanardi Strakka team he started the conquest of his European
title by winning in the first Final in Italy and taking 2nd place in Belgium. This weekend he fully accomplished his mission by taking control of the KF category during the Qualifying Heats on Saturday before
winning the Prefinal and then the Final on Sunday. His main opponent was the Dane Nicklas Nielsen
(Kosmic-Vortex-Dunlop), very consistent and victorious in Belgium. Nielsen gave everything to compete
for the European crown, but had to settle for second place, both in the Championship and in the Finals
behind his faster rival. The podium of the race was completed by the Italian Alessio Lorandi (Tony KartParilla-Dunlop) who recovered well from 11th place on the starting grid. Brilliant at his home race, the
experienced Mark Litchfield (Kosmic-TM-Dunlop) finished fourth ahead of the Spaniard Pedro Hiltbrand
(CRG-Parilla-Dunlop) and the young Lando Norris (FA Kart-Vortex-Dunlop), who set the fastest lap and
was 3rd in the Championship.

Ahmed crowned in KF-Junior
Particularly at ease in this category since the start of the 2014 season, Enaam Ahmed was considered
one of the favourites before the last Competition and has not surprised observers by winning the European title in KF-Junior. His performances in England allowed him to win the Prefinal and Final with performance to spare in front of several contenders for victory at the wheel of his FA Kart-Vortex-Vega from
the team Ricky Flynn Motorsport. The Russian Alexander Vartanyan (Tony Kart-Vortex-Vega) was on the
second step of the podium in the Race and the Briton Max Fewtrell (FA Kart-Vortex-Vega) was on the
3rd ahead of the American Juan Correa (Energy-TM- Vega) and Germany’s David Beckmann (Tony KartParilla-Vega). In the final standings of the Championship, second is the German Mick Junior (Tony KartVortex-Vega) with a great result ahead of the American Devlin Defrancesco (Tony Kart-Vortex-Vega), who
started strongly at the beginning of the season, but has had less success at the end.

LES BRITANNIQUES AU SOMMET DE L’EUROPE EN KF
ET KF-JUNIOR
Sans qu’il y ait une relation de cause à effet, ce sont deux Pilotes britanniques qui se sont
imposés au Royaume-Uni sur le circuit de PF International ce dernier week-end d’août.
La dernière Compétition des Championnats d’Europe CIK-FIA a couronné Callum Ilott en
KF et Enaam Ahmed en KF-Junior au terme d’un parcours complet débuté au mois de mai.
Les deux nouveaux Champions ont mis un point d’honneur à remporter avec panache leurs
Finales respectives pour saluer leurs titres européens.
Organisés sur quatre Compétitions cette année, les Championnats d’Europe CIK-FIA KF et KF-Junior
se sont achevés en terre anglaise, sous un temps clément, hormis le passage pluvieux qui a animé le
déroulement des Essais Qualificatifs vendredi en fin de journée. Ilott aussi bien qu’Ahmed se sont imposés sans contestation, et dominant chacun leurs adversaires avec brio dans les phases finales. Autre
point commun, ils disputaient tous deux leur seconde saison dans la catégorie où ils ont été couronnés.
Pourtant la cause était loin d’être entendue avant le début des hostilités et il leur a fallu faire preuve
d’une grande maturité, en plus de leur rapidité, pour faire face à une concurrence affûtée à tous les
stades de la Compétition.
Le circuit de PF International et l’organisateur Trent Valley Kart Club ont fourni un cadre particulièrement adapté à la conclusion des Championnats d’Europe CIK-FIA. Le tracé anglais n’est pas des plus
simples à appréhender et les pièges ne manquent pas au long de ses 1382 m. La Compétition ont d’ailleurs connu son lot de rebondissements, notamment lors des premiers tours de chaque Course avec
des Pilotes prêts à tout pour gagner. Mais la sportivité a accompagné un dénouement salué par tous,
sous le soleil du Lincolnshire.
Ilott dominateur en KF
Déjà très rapide, mais pas encore assez mûr l’an dernier pour s’imposer, Callum Ilott (Zanardi-Parilla-Dunlop) a bien progressé depuis sa 15e place obtenue en 2013 à ce niveau. A 16 ans, Callum fait
partie des jeunes talents les plus prometteurs du moment. Au sein du team Zanardi Strakka Racing,
il a construit la conquête de son titre européen en s’imposant dès la première Finale en Italie et en
prenant la 2e place en Belgique. Ce week-end il a pleinement rempli sa mission en prenant les commandes de la catégorie KF pendant les Manches Qualificatives samedi, avant de gagner coup sur coup
la Préfinale et la Finale dimanche. Son principal adversaire aura été le Danois Nicklas Nielsen (KosmicVortex-Dunlop), très régulier et victorieux en Belgique. Nielsen a tout donné pour disputer la couronne
européenne, mais il a dû se contenter de la seconde place, aussi bien en Finale qu’au Championnat
derrière un rival plus rapide. Le podium de la Course a été complété par l’Italien Alessio Lorandi (Tony

Ahmed consacré en KF-Junior

considéré comme l’un des plus grands favoris avant la dernière Compétition et n’a pas surpris les observateurs en décrochant le titre européen en KF-Junior. Ses performances en Angleterre lui ont permis
de s’imposer avec assurance en Préfinale et en Finale devant un parterre de prétendants à la victoire
au volant de son FA Kart-Vortex-Vega du team Ricky Flynn Motorsport. Le Russe Alexander Vartanyan
(Tony Kart-Vortex-Vega) est monté sur la 2e marche du podium de la Course et le Britannique Max
Fewtrell (FA Kart-Vortex-Vega) sur la 3e devant l’Américain Juan Correa (Energy-TM-Vega) et l’Allemand David Beckmann (Tony Kart-Parilla-Vega). Au classement final du Championnat, la seconde
place de l’Allemand Mick Junior (Tony Kart-Vortex-Vega) est un très beau résultat acquis de haute lutte
devant l’Américain Devlin Defrancesco (Tony Kart-Vortex-Vega), parti fort en début de saison, qui a
connu moins de réussite par la suite.
