This so-called «Excellence Laboratory» center (LabEx) gathers the major French An integrated research, academic players in the field of Information and Communications training and innovation Science and Technology (ICST), and will help them to establish tight programme aimed at cooperation. ICST fluency DigiCosme goal is to support the digital revolution in a sustainable way, enforcing safe and efficient software and communication, handling ever bigger data, and deploying social intelligence. More generally, DigiCosme aims at facing the key challenges at the core of scientific, industrial and sociological advances in the XXIst century. challenges Cognitive networks The advances in communication technologies, enforcing pervasive and mobile access to information, are at the forefront of the digital revolution. The next frontier is to ensure the decentralized and autonomous optimization of the communication network, based on the cooperative self-reconfiguration of all involved processes, in a coupled top-down and bottom-up perspective. DigiCosme takes on the three challenges of the digital revolution Data intelligence DigiCosme mission covers research, education and innovation: Research DigiCosme research focuses on fundamental issues related to software, data and communications, including: Software proof and certification Models, architectures and tools for very large scale communication Massive data management, Knowledge extraction and machine learning Human-Machine collaborative Interaction Sustainable software Education DigiCosme offers a comprehensive education program, from undergraduate to doctorate levels, providing students with every formal background required to address the scientific, technological, social and economic challenges of the Information Age. Specific IT curriculum will be offered to students in Engineering schools (Year 3) and graduate students (Master level), to foster the cross-fertilization of engineering and academic training, and boost the number of engineers obtaining a PhD within DigiCosme Labs. The DigiCosme Merit Fellowship (DMF) Program offers grants to Master and PhD students, on the basis of an open competition to select the best candidates. DigiCosme provides equal opportunity for all candidates, and equally encourages both genders to apply. In order to face the data avalanche, one needs developing a sixth sense: Data Sense. Datasense, meant to support refined decision-making, requires principled advances in machine learning, visualization and use of prior knowledge. Datasense also relies on, and requires, new ways of achieving data accessibility and safety in demanding, distributed and possibly malicious environments. Errors/bugs in modern software have impacts of all kinds, up to social chaos or economic collapse. The challenge is to design principled methodologies, improving distributed software sustainability and ensuring its robustness with respect to malicious attacks. Innovation DigiCosme scientific community benefits from its critical mass, matching that of the best international campuses in the Information and Communication field. It also benefits from tight links with other disciplines, including mathematics, physics, biology and High profile, humanities, and with a large number of high-tech large companies and spinhigh diversity offs on the Plateau de Saclay. This multi-disciplinary environment is expected to foster the knowledge transfer among labs, and between labs and industries, and facilitate the inception of innovative systems and devices, in particular related to Data Democracy.
