The Laboratory of Photochemistry and Chemical Engineering (LPIM
Postdoc Position – Emulsion Photopolymerization Processes The Laboratory of Macromolecular Photochemistry and Engineering (LPIM) of the University of Haute Alsace (FRANCE) has a long and internationally recognized experience in the field of photochemistry applied to photopolymers. The LPIM integrates 20 scientists involved in various fundamental or industrial research projects related to photopolymers: UV-curing, waterborne UV coatings, nanocomposite photopolymers, etc. The interdisciplinary research covers radical and cationic photopolymerization, novel photoinitiating systems, real time spectroscopy, excited states reactivity. Project Emulsion radical polymerization processes have created considerable wealth in many industrial sectors, including coatings, adhesives, paints, additives for textiles and paper. Conventionally, waterborne polymer dispersions are produced in stirred tank reactors by the thermally-activated freeradical polymerization of a starting monomer emulsion. PHOTOEMULSION is an ANR-selected project entitled "Emulsion Photopolymerization: Development of Processes and Photoreactors" which aims at producing polymer latexes by photochemical means.1 This project will integrate contributions from two academic laboratories and an industrial partner: the Laboratoire de Photochimie et d'Ingénierie Macromoléculaires (LPIM, Université of Haute Alsace, Mulhouse), the Laboratoire des Interactions Moléculaires et Réactivité Chimique et Photochimique (IMRCP, Université Paul Sabatier, Toulouse III) and the MÄDER group. The LPIM offers a postdoctoral position (24 months) in the development of new photopolymerization techniques in emulsion processes. In collaboration with the partners, the incumbent will develop new photopolymerization strategies in dispersed media to produce water-borne latexes with low particle size and high solids content. Profile The ideal candidate should possess sound knowledge in polymer science and/or in photochemistry. Good oral/written communication skills in English are necessary. Interested candidates are encouraged to submit their CV, a letter of motivation and two reference contacts (names, e-mail addresses and telephone numbers). A net salary of 2000 euros/month is offered.
