“Entertainment Facility Project” To Be Discontinued
October 7, 2008 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Publicity Division Oriental Land Co., Ltd. “Entertainment Facility Project” To Be Discontinued URAYASU, CHIBA— Oriental Land Co., Ltd. announced today that the “Entertainment Facility Project,” a project created to examine the business feasibility of developing a new entertainment facility outside of the Maihama area, has been discontinued. The “Entertainment Facility Project” was announced on May 8, 2007 in the “Innovate OLC 2010” mid-term business plan as one of the projects underway to establish a foundation for new business opportunities beyond Tokyo Disney Resort. The project, jointly advanced by Oriental Land Company and The Walt Disney Company, aimed to create a Disney-style indoor entertainment facility with an admission fee offering entertainment, dining, and shopping that would open after 2010. The project team had been developing concept models and conducting market research for determining its location for more than a year. Now that the project team has completed its initial feasibility study based on a concept model incorporating a number of requirements for its realization, it was found that the expected earnings against investment did not balance out to the previously established business preconditions. As a result, the Company has decided to discontinue the “Entertainment Facility Project” and pursue a new business model to realize the kind of opportunities that we are striving to create outside of the Tokyo Disney Resort. Although the “Entertainment Facility Project” will be terminated, the Company will continue to work toward developing new growth opportunities as set forth in our “Innovate OLC 2010” business plan, and will continue to look into a wide variety of long-term business opportunities nationwide without confining itself to the Maihama area. ###
