When she saw the walls achieved, she changed her mind. The paintings were needless. The alabaster is the artwork." Pascal Desprez Alain Ellouz leads a qualified and dynamic team capable of realizing his ideas. His alliance of three strong, creative personalities gives coherence and presence to the creations. Each work is a result of the cumulative efforts of these three. Interaction, dialogue, rigour, and pragmatism- all of these necessary values were applied to ensure the success of this collection, and the signature of Atelier Alain Ellouz. A t t h e h e a r t o f t h e a l a b a s te r There are two kinds of alabaster stone: calcite alabaster and gypsum alabaster. Only the gypsum alabaster offers true transparency. A permeable gypsum of which the stone mostly composed of, allowed the plant and mineral sediments to penetrate it over the centuries ,and draw the visible forms at the heart of the stone. But this alabaster is rare: few excavated fields, and few active quarries. It is necessary to extract a large quantity of stones to find blocks with good hardness, good quality and transparency, and dimensions suitable for projects. The size beyond 50 cm is a rarity factor. The production is irregular, it may take several months to find quality blocks. Albâtre CRISTAL CRISTAL ALABASTER L a q u a l i t é d e l a p i e r re , e s s e n t i e l l e p o u r l a r é u s s i te d u p ro j e t Atelier Alain Ellouz use the most beautiful stones, the most white, chosen directly in quarries. We have an important stock with regular replenishment. The slabs are marshalled that allowes to carry out subtle layouts and multiple and demanding projects for coherence of rendition. Jardin des Roses Didier Gomez design RABAT, Morocco For this 5-star hotel, located close to the Royal Palace in Rabat, Architects Didier Gomez and Karim Chakor have combined French design with Moroccan art on themes of alabaster, water, roses, mashrabiya latticework and mosaics. The 5-star Sofitel Rabat Jardin des Roses in Rabat is located close to the Royal Palace surrounded by 17.3 acres (7 hectares) of Andalusian gardens with 3000 roses. Architects Didier Gomez and Karim Chakor have combined French design with Moroccan art on themes of alabaster, water, roses, mashrabiya latticework and mosaics. Murano glass and marble chandeliers illuminate the hallway. Lose yourself amongst the roses, eucalyptus and citrus trees, relax by the swimming pool shaded with palm trees, sample a mint tea in La Galerie or savor a cocktail in the Amber Bar at this 5-star hotel in Rabat. Inherently, the alabaster is brittle and friable, with a high sensitivity to shock. Any shock, even very light, embeds a standstill in the heart of the matter. In order to overcome this fragility, we developed highly technical process. These treatments in the heart of alabaster are repeated until the slab becomes hard enough for the intended use: door, wall, floor, ceiling... The treated alabaster, shaped and implemented in our workshop has unique properties. It is ready to comply with strong technical constraints. A l ex i s J o u v i n Alexis completes the duo initially formed by Alain and Marion. An architect graduate, and professionally trained in design and cabinet making- he is able to utilize all of these competencies, spending as much time in the workshop as in the research department. Because he intimately knows the properties of the materials, he is able to carry out projects from the design stages through to development. Quattro Passi restaurant Carte Blanche Design London, United Kingdom «For this new Italian restaurant in London, I wanted a magical design with outstanding materials, based on alliance of alabaster and brass.» Lydia Hegbourne Carte blanche design A sculptor by vocation, Alain Ellouz took up the challenge of giving new form and function to both alabaster and rock crystal.
