French 2311 – Dual Credit

Le Petit Prince, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. Students will read selected parts during the
latter part of the semester.
Student Materials needed :
A three-ring binder with 3 dividers, a journal, pen and /or pencil, and a highlighter. A
pocket dictionary is useful, but not required.
French 2311 is a dual credit course through South Plains College that offers high school students
college credit in French. The course allows students the opportunity to continue their study of the
French language and culture, and to begin their study of French literature. The course will be
conducted mostly in French.
In addition to the above-mentioned course materials, various authentic recordings and French
films will be used to improve students’ listening comprehension and to give them a better
understanding of French culture. Cultural readings will be provided as well as a variety of other
readings so that students can begin reading French literature.
Students will be evaluated in a number of ways, including written, oral and listening
comprehension activities. Throughout the semester, students are required to keep a journal in
French. They will also be asked to write several compositions.

Weeks 1-3:
Vocabulaire: Un accident et l’hôpital
Grammaire : Les pronoms interrogatifs et relatifs, l’impératif et le superlatif des adjectifs
Lecture : « Une entrevue avec Gustave Eiffel »
Written exam including listening comprehension.
Weeks 4-6 :
Vocabulaire : L’hôtel – Students will make their own brochure for a French hotel and
present it to the class.
Grammaire: Le passé composé with être ou avoir, les pronoms y et en, et la formation
des adverbes.
Lecture: “L’Inspecteur Pastiche”
Written exam including listening comprehension
Weeks 7-9:
Vocabulaire: Les transports – le métro et l’autobus
Grammaire: Les questions, venir de + infinitif, les expressions de temps
Lecture: Rhinocéros, Eugène Ionesco
Written exam including listening comprehension
Weeks 10-12:
Vocabulaire: La ville et la campagne
Grammaire: Lequel et celui, les verbes suivre, conduire et vivre
Lecture: “Le rat de la ville et le rat de la campagne,” La Fontaine

Weeks 13-15:
Vocabulaire: Les fêtes du monde francophone
Grammaire : Le subjonctif
