Attention Format différent 183X242 Fichier différent Invading the whole theatre, actors in their twenties lead the spectator through a multimedia display in a dozen thematic rooms which retrace their stories, as well as the twenty-five years of a generation born after ‘68, that did not know its cultural or sociopolitical upheavals, but now wants to be heard. Such A Bad Experience Never Again] This performance should have been called You couldn’t say that a generation that lived through the suicide of Mike Brant and then the death of Claude François doesn’t know what tragedy is. It took the code name Sabena, an acronym for Such A Bad Experience Never Again. It was a few years before the disintegration of the Belgian airline company, and yet there was a whiff of coming catastrophe floating around this collective creation directed by Jean-Christophe Lauwers. A portrait of a generation brought up on color television and the stars of the small screen, as well as the emergence of the new theatre, this performance articulates its theme in the entangled threads of history –personal memories, chronicles on art, history with a capital H. An interrogation of a generation about its future, human and cultural, in a disillusioned, merchandised world where culture is mistaken for commerce, but where poets rise every day like so many stars in the human firmament, this performance starts off with a litany of the “artist-saints” and so signs a voyage across our contemporary myths. For three hours the spectators walked about the Atelier Sainte Anne, from the technical room to the garage, transformed into as many spaces, to arrive in the large hall for an astonishing and hallucinatory finale, where a chaotic and expiatory dance becomes an echo of J’accuse, uttered into a megaphone several seconds before, like a manifesto for a new social pact.
