Quick Start Guide
Use this guide to get started with IBM InfoSphere Streams.
Product overview
IBM® InfoSphere® Streams enables you to capture, analyze, and act on business data from a broad range of sources. Using
real-time analytic processing (RTAP) technology, InfoSphere Streams can continuously analyze massive volumes of streaming
data in real time, with extremely fast response times. In addition to reporting changes in data, InfoSphere Streams can notify
users and systems of data changes, and take specific actions to respond to those changes in real time.
You can use InfoSphere Streams to develop and run applications that process information in data streams. To develop streams
processing applications, InfoSphere Streams provides the IBM Streams Processing Language (SPL), the Streams Studio
integrated development environment (IDE), and toolkits. The InfoSphere Streams runtime system enables you to run your
applications on a single or distributed set of hosts.

Step 1: Access your software and documentation
To download the IBM InfoSphere Streams installation files, follow the instructions in the Download Document that is
available on the InfoSphere Streams Support website (http://www.ibm.com/support/entry/portal/Overview/Software/
Information_Management/InfoSphere_Streams).
The InfoSphere Streams Release Notes and Installation and Configuration Guide are included in the product installation
package.
All of the InfoSphere Streams product documentation is available in a separate Information Center package file that you
can download and install on your local system. For instructions about installing and updating the locally installed
information center, see the readme file in the Information Center package file.
The most current version of the InfoSphere Streams documentation is in the information center on the IBM website
(http://pic.dhe.ibm.com/infocenter/streams/v3r2).
To extract the contents of the product installation package, enter the following command:
tar -zxvf product-installation-package-name.tar.gz
The tar command creates the StreamsInstallFiles directory, which contains the InfoSphere Streams self-extracting
installation binary file (InfoSphereStreamsSetup.bin), other installation files, the Release Notes, and the Installation and
Configuration Guide.

Step 2: Evaluate your system configuration
InfoSphere Streams provides a dependency checker script that you run on your system before installing the product. This
script identifies any InfoSphere Streams incompatibilities related to your operating system, software dependencies, and
other system requirements.
To run the dependency checker script, enter the following commands:
cd product-installation-package-directory/StreamsInstallFiles
./dependency_checker.sh

Step 3: Install InfoSphere Streams
For demonstration and learning purposes, you might want to install InfoSphere Streams on a single computer as a root or
non-root user. To install InfoSphere Streams in a multiple-host or production environment, see “Installing InfoSphere
Streams” in the information center or the Installation and Configuration Guide.
Before you install InfoSphere Streams, you must create the user ID and group that will own the installation.
If Security-Enhanced Linux (SELinux) is enabled on your computer, you must install InfoSphere Streams as a root user.

The following procedure provides minimal steps for installing InfoSphere Streams on a single computer using the
interactive graphical user interface (GUI) installation method and accepting the default installation options.
You can install and use InfoSphere Streams without a GUI. However, a GUI enables you to get started quicker and use the
Streams Studio application development interface.
Procedure
1. From the product-installation-package-directory/StreamsInstallFiles directory, enter the following
command to start the installation:
./InfoSphereStreamsSetup.bin
2. When you are prompted, accept the default installation options.
3. On the Postinstallation Tasks page, ensure that the Launch First Steps option is selected, and then click Next. The
Installation Complete page displays, and the First Steps application opens in a separate window.
4. On the Installation Complete page, click Done to exit the installation utility. If the Installation Complete page indicated
that the installation utility detected errors or warnings, review the installation summary log file in the
product-installation-directory/logs directory, and resolve any issues.
5. Use the First Steps application to complete the postinstallation tasks for InfoSphere Streams. These tasks include
configuring your SSH environment, generating public and private keys, verifying the installation, creating an
InfoSphere Streams runtime instance, and installing Streams Studio.
6. Close the First Steps application. You can restart the application at any time by entering the following command:
streamtool launch --firststeps
7. To configure the InfoSphere Streams product environment variables, enter the following command:
source product-installation-directory/bin/streamsprofile.sh
Add this command to your ~/.bashrc shell initialization file. Otherwise, you must enter the command every time you
start InfoSphere Streams.

Étape 3 : Installation d'InfoSphere Streams
Vous pouvez installer InfoSphere Streams sur un seul ordinateur en tant qu'utilisateur root ou non root à des fins de
démo et d'apprentissage. Pour installer le produit dans un environnement à hôtes multiples ou de production, voir

Avant d'installer InfoSphere Streams, vous devez créer l'ID utilisateur et le groupe qui seront propriétaires de l'installation.

Procédure

avertissements ont été détectés, consultez le fichier journal dans rép_install/logs et résolvez les problèmes.
5. Utilisez l'application Premiers pas pour effectuer les tâches de post-installation d'InfoSphere Streams. Ces tâches
incluent la configuration de votre environnement SSH, la génération de clés publiques et privées, la vérification de
l'installation, la création d'une instance d'exécution InfoSphere Streams ainsi que l'installation de Streams Studio.
6. Fermez l'application Premiers pas. Vous pouvez redémarrer l'application à tout moment en entrant la commande

streamtool launch --firststeps
7. Pour configurer les variables d'environnement du produit InfoSphere Streams, entrez la commande suivante :
source rép_install/bin/streamsprofile.sh

Etapa 2: Avaliar sua Configuração do Sistema
O InfoSphere Streams fornece um script de verificador de dependência que você executa em seu sistema antes de instalar
o produto. Esse script identifica quaisquer incompatibilidades do InfoSphere Streams relacionadas a seu sistema
operacional, dependências do software e outros requisitos do sistema.
Para executar o script de verificador de dependência, insira os comandos a seguir:
cd product-installation-package-directory/StreamsInstallFiles
./dependency_checker.sh

Etapa 3: Instalar o InfoSphere Streams
Para propósitos de demonstração e aprendizado, você talvez deseje instalar o InfoSphere Streams em um único
computador como um usuário raiz ou não raiz. Para instalar o InfoSphere Streams em um ambiente de diversos hosts ou
de produção, consulte “Instalando o InfoSphere Streams” no centro de informações ou o Guia de Instalação e Configuração.
Antes de instalar o InfoSphere Streams, você deve criar o ID do usuário e o grupo que possuirão a instalação.
Se o Security-Enhanced Linux (SELinux) estiver ativado em seu computador, você deverá instalar o InfoSphere Streams
como um usuário raiz. Para obter informações adicionais, consulte “Instalação por Usuários Raiz ou Não Raiz” no centro
de informações ou no Guia de Instalação e Configuração.
O procedimento a seguir fornece etapas mínimas para instalar o InfoSphere Streams em um único computador usando o
método de instalação da interface gráfica com o usuário (GUI) interativa e aceitando as opções de instalação padrão.
É possível instalar e usar o InfoSphere Streams sem uma GUI. No entanto, uma GUI permite que você inicie mais rápido e
use a interface de desenvolvimento de aplicativo do Streams Studio.
Procedimento
1. No diretório product-installation-package-directory/StreamsInstallFiles, insira o comando a seguir para
iniciar a instalação: ./InfoSphereStreamsSetup.bin
2. Quando solicitado, aceite as opções de instalação padrão.
3. Na página Tarefas de Pós-instalação, assegure-se de que a opção Ativar Primeiras Etapas esteja selecionada e, em
seguida, clique em Avançar. A página Instalação Concluída é exibida e o aplicativo First Steps é aberto em uma janela
separada.
4. Na página Instalação Concluída, clique em Pronto para sair do utilitário de instalação. Se a página Instalação
Concluída indicou que o utilitário de instalação detectou erros ou avisos, revise o arquivo de log do resumo de
instalação no diretório product-installation-directory/logs e resolva quaisquer problemas.
5. Use o aplicativo First Steps para concluir as tarefas de pós-instalação do InfoSphere Streams. Essas tarefas incluem
configurar seu ambiente SSH, gerar chaves públicas e privadas, verificar a instalação, criar uma instância de tempo de
execução do InfoSphere Streams e instalar o Streams Studio.
6. Feche o aplicativo First Steps. É possível reiniciar o aplicativo a qualquer momento inserindo o comando a seguir:
streamtool launch --firststeps
7. Para configurar as variáveis de ambiente do produto InfoSphere Streams, insira o comando a seguir:
source product-installation-directory/bin/streamsprofile.sh
Inclua esse comando em seu arquivo de inicialização de shell ~/.bashrc. Caso contrário, você deverá inserir o
comando toda vez que iniciar o InfoSphere Streams.
