LES DÉFIS DE LA GESTION INDICIELLE: LE CAS DES ACTIONS PRIVILÉGIÉES ET OBLIGATIONS CORPORATIVES
CANADIENNES
Introductions by: Yves Rebetez, Managing Director, Editor, ETFinsight
Nicolas Normandeau, Vice President & Portfolio Manager, Fiera Capital
12:55
– 1:25
THE CHALLENGE OF INDEXING: PREFERRED SHARES AND CORPORATE BONDS
Indexing is not a one-size-fits-all solution, particularly in Canada, where certain asset classes don’t have the breadth of market to effectively support
indexing strategies. Two asset classes where this is particularly true are preferred shares and Canadian corporate bonds. Nicolas Normandeau a VicePresident and Portfolio Manager with Fiera’s $50 billion fixed income team, and is the lead manager on their preferred share and floating rate
mandates. Mr. Normandeau will give a French language presentation on why a low-cost actively managed strategy may be a better approach to
generating better risk-adjusted returns in these popular income-focused asset classes.
•
Preferred Shares :
o
2014 will be known for significant redemptions and money flows – how did it influence the market?
o
2015 should see continuity in new issues with less redemption– will conditions be in place for a more balanced market?
o
What issues are attractive and which ones should be avoided?
o
A short duration solution to provide tax-efficient yield with lower interest rate risk.
•
Investment Grade Corporate Bonds:
o
How advisors can shorten duration of their fixed income portfolios without sacrificing yield or bearing undue credit risk?
o
Accessing institutional pricing, improving liquidity, and building scalability: Fiera’s active management proposition.
