Description
A fairytale written by a French woman in the 17th century, Bearskin (Peau d’Ours) tells the story of a young girl
who turns into a bear to escape an Ogre.
About Barbara Kilpatrick:
Barbara Kilpatrick is an interdisciplinary visual artist who unites elements of sculpture, photography and
set / costume installations. Her work is seen primarily in the context of performance and visual art, and has been
shown in such venues as Dance Theater Workshop, St Mark’s Church/Danspace Project, and The Kitchen, all in
New York City, Ancram Opera House in upstate New York, and the New Arts Program in Kutztown, Pennsylvania.
Her work has also been included in group shows in museums and galleries, while her photographs have
appeared in The New York Times, Dance Magazine, The Village Voice and Time Out New York. Central to her
recent work have been her collaborations in dance and multimedia throughout the New York region. Her work
with dancer/choreographer Vicky Shick extends some fifteen years, culminating in a BESSIE award (New York
Dance and Performance Award) for their body of collaboration. Her collaborations with sound/multimedia
designer Elise Kermani have led to several projects in performance, installation and video. Kilpatrick, Shick and
Kermani have worked together in collaboration for nearly ten years, most recently at the Trafo Theatre in
Budapest, Hungary and in the Dublin Dance Festival in Ireland. They are recipients of a grant from the MAP
Fund, a program of Creative Capital, supported by the Rockefeller Foundation.
About the dancers:
Laurel Tentindo is a movement artist originally from VT. She has been member of the Trisha Brown
Dance Company since 2007 and traveled the world performing and teaching. She creates original pieces with
fellow movement artists, musicians, puppeteers, sculptors, filmmakers and actors. Her work has been shown at
St. Mark’s Church (NYC), Judson Church (NYC), Labapalooza at St. Anne’s Warehouse (Brooklyn), Tanz im August:
Berlin International Dance Festival, the Prauge Fringe Festival, and the San Francisco Fringe Festival. She has
performed in pieces by Sara Rudner and Vicky Shick and improvised with Kirstie Simson as well as dancing in
Harry Partch’s Delusion of the Fury, directed by John Jesurun. She appears in Poe (...and the Museum of Lost
Arts), a hybrid performance/film, directed by Elise Kermani. Laurel is a certified Skinner Releasing Teacher, a
graduate of Sarah Lawrence College and a student of the Alexander Technique. Laurel is currently teaching a
spring semester course at The New School, NYC.
Luis Tentindo (Director/Designer) is a Brooklyn-based interdisciplinary artist. He creates puppet/object
theater works as well as exhibitions and installations based on his theater pieces. From 1994 to 2008 he danced
in the companies of many of New York’s finest dance makers touring and teaching nationally and internationally.
He now focuses on creating his own work and on collaborations. In March/April of 2010 he was in residence at
The MacDowell Colony. In August of 2010 Luis was awarded a 5-month studio residency with the Lower
Manhattan Cultural Council. In March and April of 2011 Luis continued development of a new work at a
residency at Djerassi. Currently, he is a resident fellow at the Bogliasco Foundation near Genova, Italy. Mr.
Tentindo's work has received generous support from The Jim Henson Foundation and other organizations.
