The 2016 vintage of the CIK-FIA World Junior Championship was particularly intense
and full of adventures. The end result however distinguished one of the great
revelations of the season, Victor Martins, joined on the podium by two other
promising young talents, David Vidales Ajenjo and Theo Pourchaire.
The tone was set in all four Qualifying Practice sessions. The 97 young Junior Drivers aged 13
to 15 used complex and sometimes risky strategies to try to take advantage of the good
slipstream. The struggle that had just started was a tough one. The framework of the CIK-FIA
World Championship lent itself perfectly to this fierce struggle for the world title. Fast, hilly,
technical, the Bahrain International Kart Circuit used its ultra-powerful lighting to make the
many Night Races exciting and safe. High-quality organisation and strong involvement from
the Bahraini authorities complemented the very positive results of the first CIK-FIA World
Championship in the new OK-Junior category.
Martins distances his rivals in the Final
The Danish Driver Noah Watt (Tony Kart / Vortex / Vega) was lagging behind in Qualifying
Practice and the Spaniard David Vidales Ajenjo (Tony Kart / Vortex / Vega) started a course to
victory with Pole Position. Not too lucky during the Qualifying Heats, the Frenchman Victor
Martins (Kosmic / Parilla / Vega) took 2nd position behind Vidales Ajenjo at the end of these.
The Swede Hampus Eriksson (Tony Kart / Vortex / Vega), Australian Oscar Piastri (FA Kart /
Vortex) and Brazilian Gianluca De Castro Petecof (CRG / Parilla / Vega) were at the forefront.
Vidales Ajenjo and Martins followed each other after winning their Prefinals, while European
Champion Finlay Kenneally (FA Kart / Vortex / Vega) entered the top five. But the final duel was
only between Vidales and Martins. De Castro Petecof and Kenneally took advantage of the
intense battle to take the lead for a short time. Then Vidales Ajenjo took control until Martins
finally settled in the lead at the halfway point. Vidales Ajenjo fought in the chasing pack to
regain his 2nd place against Petecof and the Frenchman Théo Pourchaire (Kosmic / Vortex /
Vega). Martins won an indisputable victory and the World Junior crown ahead of Vidales Ajenjo
and Pourchaire.

Le cru 2016 du Championnat du Monde CIK-FIA Junior s'est révélé particulièrement
intense et riche en péripéties. Le résultat final distingue pourtant l'une des grandes
révélations de la saison, Victor Martins, accompagné sur le podium par deux autres
jeunes talents prometteurs, David Vidales Ajenjo et Théo Pourchaire.
Le ton était donné dès les quatre séances d'Essais Qualificatifs. Les 97 jeunes Pilotes Junior
âgés de 13 à 15 ans se livraient à des stratégies complexes et parfois risquées pour tenter de
profiter de la bonne aspiration. La bagarre qui venait juste de commencer s'annonçait rude. Le
cadre du Championnat du Monde CIK-FIA se prêtait parfaitement à cette âpre lutte pour le titre
mondial. Rapide, vallonné, technique, le Bahrain International Circuit Kart mettait à profit son
éclairage ultra-puissant pour rendre palpitantes et sûres les nombreuses Courses de nuit. Une
organisation de grande qualité et une forte implication des autorités de Bahreïn venaient
compléter le bilan très positif de ce premier Championnat du Monde CIK-FIA de la nouvelle
catégorie OK-Junior.
Martins distance ses rivaux en Finale
Alors que le Danois Noah Watt (Tony Kart/Vortex/Vega) prenait un retard impossible à combler
dès les Essais Qualificatifs, l'Espagnol David Vidales Ajenjo (Tony Kart/Vortex/Vega) entamait
avec la Pole Position un parcours semé de victoires. Pas très gâté au cours des Manches
Qualificatives, le Français Victor Martins (Kosmic/Parilla/Vega) prenait cependant la 2e position
derrière Vidales Ajenjo à l'issue de celles-ci. Le Suédois Hampus Eriksson (Tony
Kart/Vortex/Vega), l'Australien Oscar Piastri (FA Kart/Vortex) et le Brésilien Gianluca De Castro
Petecof (CRG/Parilla/Vega) se faisaient remarquer aux avant-postes.
Vidales Ajenjo et Martins se suivaient après avoir remporté chacun leur Préfinale, tandis que le
Champion d'Europe Finlay Kenneally (FA Kart/Vortex/Vega) entrait dans le top 5. Mais le duel
final allait concerner uniquement Vidales et Martins. De Castro Petecof et Kenneally profitaient
de la bataille intense pour prendre les devants un court instant. Puis Vidales Ajenjo retrouvait
les commandes jusqu'à ce que Martins ne s'installe définitivement en tête à la mi-course.
Vidales Ajenjo se battait dans le groupe de chasse pour reprendre sa 2e place face à Petecof et
le Français Théo Pourchaire (Kosmic/Vortex/Vega). Martins remportait une victoire
incontestable et coiffait la couronne mondiale Junior devant Vidales Ajenjo et Pourchaire
