CHANGE IN GOVERNANCE AS COLLECTIVE LEARNING PROCESS: Management, Politics and Ethics in Forestry International Symposium Nancy, France, 21-24 June 2009 Practical Information Getting to Nancy 1. Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) to Gare de l'Est (East Railway Station) From the Charles de Gaulle Airport, take the line RER B - a train connecting the airport and Paris, which is cheaper than a taxi, unless you share the costs with someone (50-60 Euros). The RER takes 30-45 minutes, depending on the number of stops, as they can be non-stop, 4-5 stops and also stopping everywhere. Getting from the terminal to the RER may take up to 30 minutes. To get to the RER, follow the signs ‘Trains to Paris, RER’. You need to buy a ticket (8,40 Euro one way) before you enter the train. To safe the time on the way back, you can also buy a return ticket for RER as they are not limited in time. Further information: http://parisbytrain.com/charles-de-gaulle-airport-cdg-to-paris-by-train/ Get off the train at the Gare du Nord station and change for Metro line 4 (using the same ticket), direction Porte d'Orleans, and follow the directions. It is only 1 stop from the Gare de l'Est. You can also walk from one station to the other (takes 10-15 minutes with luggage). To leave the station first follow directions to Grandes Lignes and then exit through ‘modern’ glass doors (direction pl. Dunkerque), turn to the left, follow the signs. Directions are well indicated along the streets. Here you find a map of the area http://bonjourlafrance.com/france-trains/stations/gare-du-nord-station.htm 2. Paris Gare de l’Est to Nancy – by TGV (High speed train): In Paris, go to the East Railway Station (Gare de l'Est). Take a direct high speed train (TGV) to Nancy. Direct trains from Paris Est to Nancy Ville take 90 minutes. Tickets from Paris to Nancy: add another 30 minutes if to be bought in the booking office, otherwise, use the special ticket machines. Before boarding the train, you need to ‘validate’ the tickets (small yellow boxes everywhere). Tickets may also be purchased on the internet (see below). NB: Seats on the TGV have to be pre-booked. It is cheaper and more convenient to purchase return tickets in Paris (or on internet). There is no special price for a ‘return’ ticket, just the ‘back-toParis’ ticket may be cheaper due to a longer period before departure It is possible to book train tickets online http://www.tgv-europe.com/en/home/ 3. Other directions to Nancy Other airports: Strasbourg, Luxembourg, or Metz-Nancy-Lorraine 30km from the town centre. There are also trains to Nancy from Strasbourg and Luxembourg. From CDG Airport, there are also (but rarely) direct trains to Nancy, station TGV Lorraine (from there shuttle buses leave to Nancy City, which take another 40-45 min). At the turn of the century, Nancy was the birthplace of the Ecole de Nancy, a branch of European Art Nouveau which produced exceptional artists such as Gallé, Daum and Majorelle.
