The 14 edition of the Marrakech International Film Festival will take place from 2014 December, 5 to 13
Après les Hommages rendus en 2013 à Juliette Binoche, Mohamed Khouyi,
Hirokazu Kore-eda, Sharon Stone et Fernando Solanas, le Festival continue de
mettre en lumière les grands noms de la cinématographie internationale et
rendra hommage cette année au comédien égyptien Adel Imam, à l’acteur
britannique Jeremy Irons et au comédien américain Viggo Mortensen.
After the tributes paid in 2013 to Juliette Binoche, Mohamed Khouyi, Hirokazu
Kore-eda, Sharon Stone and Fernando Solanas, the Festival continues to bring
the spotlight on some of the great names of international cinema, and will
this year pay tribute to the Egyptian actor Adel Imam, the British actor
Jeremy Irons, and the American actor Viggo Mortensen.

Considéré comme l’une des plus grandes stars égyptiennes, Adel Imam se fait connaître du
grand public sur les planches dans la pièce de théâtre « L’école des rebelles/cancres ». Il
commence sa carrière très jeune et côtoie dès lors les plus grands noms de la scène de
l’époque, comme Ismail Yassin. Sa filmographie impressionnante de plus d’une centaine de
titres débutée dans les années 1960 et poursuivie jusqu’à aujourd‘hui, témoigne de la
richesse et de l’éclectisme de son talent : à travers des films où il interprète des victimes de
l’injustice et de la pauvreté et où se mêlent humour et tristesse, il dénonce le fanatisme
religieux et les extrémistes, comme dans LE TERRORISTE de Nader Galal. Acteur discret
n’hésitant pas à aborder à travers ses rôles des sujets politiques et à défendre les minorités,
il tient notamment le rôle principal du film L’IMMEUBLE YACOUBIAN de Marwan Hamed.
Considered one of the great stars of Egypt, Adel Imam first came to public attention on stage
in the play “School for Rebels/Dunces”. He started his career very young, and worked
alongside the biggest names in theater at the time, such as Ismail Yassin. His extensive
filmography includes around 100 titles, from the 1960s until the present day, and is a
testament to the richness and eclecticism of his talent. He manages to combine humor and
sadness to denounce religious fanaticism and extremists through films in which he plays
victims of injustice and poverty, such as THE TERRORIST by Nader Galal. A discreet actor who
never hesitates to tackle political subjects and to defend minorities, he notably played the
lead in THE YACOUBIAN BUILDING by Marwan Hamed.

With a movie career spanning more than three decades, Jeremy Irons is one of the best-loved
actors among film fans the world over. In parallel to a rich career on stage, he has alternated
big-budget movies and auteur films, leaving his own inimitable stamp on characters who are
often chilling and disturbing. He has worked with many of the great directors: as a Jesuit
priest in THE MISSION by Roland Joffé, a doctor slipping into madness in DEAD RINGERS by
David Cronenberg, a man accused of killing his wife in REVERSAL OF FORTUNE by Barbet
Schroeder (which won him the Oscar for Best Actor in 1990), the title role in Steven
Soderbergh’s portrait of the writer KAFKA, a politician succumbing to passion in DAMAGE by
Louis Malle, a writer on the brink of death in STEALING BEAUTY by Bernardo Bertolucci, or as

Révélé au grand public grâce à son rôle d’un jeune Amish dans WITNESS de Peter Weir,
Viggo Mortensen accède véritablement à la reconnaissance internationale grâce au
personnage d’Aragorn dans la trilogie du SEIGNEUR DES ANNEAUX de Peter Jackson. Il est
plébiscité dans une quarantaine de films, collabore à trois reprises avec David Cronenberg

Viggo Mortensen’s breakthrough role was as a young Amish man in WITNESS by Peter Weir,
but he became a major international star thanks to his performance as Aragorn in the LORD
OF THE RINGS trilogy by Peter Jackson. He has starred in some 40 critically acclaimed movies,
three of them with David Cronenberg (A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE, EASTERN PROMISES, A
DANGEROUS METHOD). He moves effortlessly from demanding auteur works (PSYCHO by
Gus Van Sant, JAUJA by Lisandro Alonso) to action roles, like that of a soldier in the Spanish
