WINE ESTATE OWNER
This estate was formed in the early XXth century. It borders on Château Les
Grands Chênes and shares the same beautiful gravelly rise, not far from the
Gironde estuary. This part of the Médoc peninsula was invaded by the Normans,
and towns along the estuary later built fortresses to protect themselves. Vestiges
of one such fortress are found in Saint-Christoly du Médoc. Winegrowing
became a major occupation in this region from in the XVIIth century.
Location: Saint-Christoly du Médoc.
Area under vine: 39 hectares.
Wine grape variety: 58% Merlot, 26% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Cabernet
Franc and 5% Petit Verdot.
Age of vines: 35 years.
Vine density: 5,500 vines per hectare.
Terroir: 60 % of deep Garonne gravels on clay, 40% clay-limestone soil.
Viticulture: Guyot double pruning. Green cover between the vine rows. Leaf
thinning and green harvesting.
Winemaking: The grapes from each plot are picked separately then sorted
on a specially-equipped table which separates full berries from crushed ones.
They are kept in thermoregulated stainless steel vats .Cool pre-fermentation
maceration for 2 days. The wine is aged for 16 months in French oak barrels.
Yield: 40 to 47 hectolitres per hectare
