SAVE THAT TOOTH DISPLACEMENT OF
FRONT TEETH BY TRAUMA
PROBLEM
Sometimes a simple blow to a front tooth can cleanly and
completely dislodge it without involving other teeth.
TREATMENT
Conservative treatment consists of reimplanting the dislodged tooth.
The tooth must be in one piece and the patient must be seen by a dentist as
soon as possible after the accident, preferably within 30 minutes.
PROCEDURE
1. Pick up the tooth by the crown (the part that is visible in the mouth).
Do not scrub the tooth or place it in disinfectant.
2. If the tooth is clean, hold it by the crown and push it back gently into
its socket the right way round. If you can’t push it back in, wrap it in a
damp tissue/handkerchief or place it in salt water or milk before going
immediately to the dentist. If milk or salt water isn’t available, place
the tooth in the mouth between gums and cheek.
3. If the tooth is dirty, rinse it in milk or cold water before pushing it in
place. Do not scrub. Ask the patient to bite down on a
tissue/handkerchief and go see the dentist immediately. If you can’t
push it back in socket, follow instructions in number 2.
PROGNOSIS
A tooth can usually be saved with quick and careful action. The three
keys to success are: speed, cleanliness, and immobilization.
PREVENTION A properly fitted mouthguard made by a dentist will help protect teeth
during contact sports or games such as hockey and football when tooth
damage can occur.

CONSERVEZ CETTE DENT DÉPLACEMENT D’UNE INCISIVE
SUITE À UN TRAUMATISME
PROBLÈME
Il arrive qu’un coup sec porté à une incisive réussisse à la
déloger complètement sans affecter d’autres dents.
TRAITEMENT Un traitement traditionnel consiste en une réimplantation de la dent. La
dent doit être entière et le patient doit voir un dentiste le plus tôt possible
après l’accident, préférablement dans les 30 minutes qui suivent.
PROCÉDURE
1. Ramassez la dent par la couronne (la partie visible dans la bouche). Ne
frottez pas la dent et ne la placez pas dans une solution désinfectante.
2. Si la dent est propre, tenez-la par la couronne et insérez-la dans sa cavité
telle qu’elle était. Si vous ne pouvez pas la replacer, enveloppez-la dans un
tissu ou un mouchoir humide ou déposez-la dans de l’eau salée ou du lait
avant d’aller immédiatement voir le dentiste. S’il n’y a pas de lait ou d’eau
salée disponible, placez la dent dans la bouche du patient, entre la gencive
et la joue.
3. Si la dent est sale, rincez-la avec du lait ou de l’eau froide avant de
l’insérer dans sa cavité. Ne frottez pas. Demandez au patient de mordre
un tissu ou un mouchoir en serrant la mâchoire et allez voir le dentiste
immédiatement. Si vous ne pouvez pas replacer la dent, suivez les
instructions au numéro 2.
PRONOSTIC
Une dent peut généralement être sauvée lorsqu’on agit rapidement et
minutieusement. Les trois clés du succès sont : rapidité, propreté et
immobilisation.
PRÉVENTION Un protège-dents bien ajusté et fabriqué par un dentiste empêche les coups
encourus en participant à des sports de contact tels que le hockey ou le
football d’endommager les dents.
